Exactly, the only mandate the government should be focusing on is to make the manufacturers deliver safer cars. India should have its own vehicle safety measuring tests and all cars being sold in India must achieve a minimum score to be considered road worthy.

But the reality is the uncertainty about the future of E10 petrol and the proposed ban on diesels in cities make this a very uncertain time for car owners/buyers.

Euro 7’s direct costs 4 to 10 times higher than EU estimates.

Quote:
Compliance with the proposed Euro 7 regulation will require OEMs to install additional hardware and invest in the development and rollout of new technologies – which will affect manufacturing costs of new Euro 7 compliant vehicles.

ACEA-commissioned study calculates the per vehicle costs at around 2,000 euros (Rs 175,000) for cars and vans with an internal combustion engine, and close to 12,000 euros (Rs 10.54 lakh) for diesel trucks and buses.

According to ACEA, recent studies have shown that replacing older, more polluting vehicles on EU roads with the latest Euro 6/VI vehicles – alongside the electrification of new vehicles – would deliver an 80% reduction in road transport NOx emissions by 2035 (compared to 2020). Over the same period, the most stringent Euro 7 scenarios (ie limits for NOx and particles set at zero) would reduce road transport NOx emissions by up to a further 4% for cars and vans and 2% for trucks, compared to Euro 6/VI

Meanwhile in Europe, eight European Countries block ambitious Euro 7 mmissions plan.

Surprisingly enough, Germany was not one of the countries who opposed.

Quote:
The countries said the tougher limits for pollutants could divert crucial investments needed to reach the EU's goal of effectively banning new combustion engine vehicles after 2035.

Incidentally I was hearing in casual conversations that Pune' s currently " strong" heat conditions are also a result of a much cleaner air which effectively reduces the layer of pollution blocking off sunlight. Take what you will of this thought !

Wasn't VW going to phase out the Polo because they found that it would no longer be entry car priced if Euro7 norms kick in.

If implementeed this could kill affordable small car market in India.
