Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

I use my Thar as the daily drive, here are the numbers

Model - Thar CRDE 4WD 2012 Model
Odometer: 47500 kms
Distance traveled - 450 KM (Himachal interiors to Delhi, mostly downhill in 2WD mode)
Fuel: Diesel
Mileage - 12.7 Kmpl
Average speed: 45 kmph (Highway speeds between 85-100, peaks of 120 for short bursts)
Tyres: Continental AT
AC was on for 300 kms

The mileage within the hills (mean elevation between 7000ft - 9000ft) is around 11-12, and when using the 4H mode the average is close to 10.

Any other Thar owners checking in on their average?

My VW Polo 1.2 P, 3.5 years, 23 k done is going strong delivers 15-16 Kpml in the city 40-50 Km per hr average. Checked it over a trip of 600 kms by empty to full tank method.
I drive from Vashi to Kanjur Marg everyday

The best part, highway 19 kmpl on a trip to Nasik and back 320 kms 80-110 km per hour
This trip also included some city driving in traffic.

I had always assumed that the 1.2 petrol cannot go beyond 16 kmpl on the highway and 12 in the city. Very very pleasant numbers indeed.

I believe the 1.6 petrol has similar numbers, anybody with a polo 1.6 or vento petrol would like to share these stats please?

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

On a drive from Trivandrum to Nagercoil and back through those horrible roads and heavy traffic, got an average of 26.2 kmpl in my Humble Nano !

Total distance - 140
Fuel used - 5.3L
FE - 26.2 !

I was literally shocked since the car was in 3rd, 2nd and 1st most of the times! Hardly 15% of the drive was in 4th gear. And the return journey was with 50% A/C too. That was a surprise!

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

This thread was supposed to give a real life FE of various cars.
But, reading the posts, it seems its a competition to prove how great one's FE is. ..something for the record books!

Anyways, my FE -
Honda Jazz 46K kms, 4+ years old

City FE - 13-14 (moderate traffic). goes down to 10-12 in heavy traffic
Highway FE - 18+ (if driven sedately). 15-16 with spirited driving.

And for the records, I have achieved a FE od 22.1 kmpl in one drive from home to airport. Bu, that was just done for testing out the max I can extract. I don't and can't drive like that and that's not what my real life FE is.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Swift Diesel - 1 lakh 4000 kilometers.

City FE- 16.5 kmpl with 100% AC

Highway FE - 19kmpl with 100 % AC and cruising at 120 kmph most of the times.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Car: Indica Vista Aqua TDI ( Indigo Engine)
Model year: 2009
Kms driven: 22k kms.

Moderate city traffic with 50% AC: 13.5-14 kmpl

Highway runs at speeds between 80 - 95 kmph with 70% AC: 16.5- 17.5 kmpl

When the car was new I used to get a Highway FE of 18.5 kmpl max with slower speeds of less than 80 kmph.

All the above figures are derived from Tank full to Tank full measurment method.

That's really low running for a diesel car! 5 years and 22k kms! And the efficiency seems to be on the lower side :/
80-90kmph in 5th gear gives you maximum mileage!

Yes its very low running. My office is walking distance from my house and I use a bike within city.

Its an old technology Indigo engine 475 Indirect injection and Vista is a heavy car weighing 1200 kg. The best mileage I have got is 18.5 kmpl again tank full to tank full method.

The same engine gives better mileage of 20 - 21 kmpl in a near 200 kilo lighter Indica.

As per car manual the best fuel efficiency is when you drive at 70 kmph in fifth gear and that corresponds to 1700- 1800 engine rpm.

As winter starts to set in here in Northern part of the country, the diesel punch is getting stronger and FE is on the rise.
Reserve to reserve, the Avg fuel consumption from two Rs 1000 fill-outs revealed 22.x and 23.x kmpl in city. Margin of error can be taken as 5%.
Driving style - sedate
Car - Beat tcdi
Odo - 48k kms

In hot summers it struggled to breach the 21 kmpl mark in city.
A 300 km Highway drive could only give a normal 22kmpl, though speeds never went north of 100 kmph. That might be due to the short 5 th cog.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Latest update from a road trip:

Car: 2006 Hyundai Accent 1.5P
Current odo reading: 76998 Kms
Total distance covered on current trip: 3515 Kms (Bangalore - Bhopal round trip, 2 passengers plus luggage)
Total fuel used: 218.56 Ltrs
Overall fuel economy: 16.08 KMPL

The overall figure is somewhat ruined by the bad patches in MH. On the good stretches on NH4 (KA) and NH3 (MH/MP), I got 18+ figures on some refills.

Thank you!!
Page after page of 18-25 kmpl cars were hurting my head, when my petrol gives me 12-15,and the diesel gives 14.

On a lighter note, this seems like a record for the least fuel efficiency. Maybe even the Hummer would give a better FE.

Yes it hurts. My 2007 indica xeta 1.4 with 40000 on odo gives only 9/10kmpl in city. However it still drives well with almost nill rattling.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

A quick dash to Pune during the weekend gave a bit surprising results. Started from either ends at 7 am in the morning to reach the destination at 9.45 am. The distance travelled was again same 170 kms. The speeds were same 90 on the highways, 70's in the city limits. While going to Pune the average mileage achieved was 21 kmpl whereas while returning back the mileage was 24.3kmpl.
