Just did a road trip in Alto Lx trivandrum - palaghat n back with a stunning FE of 18.5kmpl (80% AC).....I just couldn't believe it the 1st time but checked it again n it was the same....

I believe to reduce evaporation losses. For eg, I normally top up after 15-20 days when there is around 8-10 litres of fuel left. So possibly if a top-up is done every 10 days , it might reduce losses. Will try and see.

Thats fantastic from a Palio! How many kms has your car done? Is that 12.8Kmpl with 60% AC on too? If so, I'd say it should give about 11kmpl with 100% AC. Still it's fantastic mileage. Looks like Fiat did their homework really well with the NV. I still don't know why the pre-NV cars bad mileage issue spread like wild fire but the much better mileage from NV series is not getting Fiat due credit. Just proves what I have been saying for years, Indians just love a disaster story.

Highway: 100% AC => 15.5 KMPL
No AC => 17.6 KMPL
Never crossed 90 KMPH mark. Always in 60 - 90 KMPH

The figures above are all approx with a deflection of about 2-5 %.

Last time had a run of 300 KM and got overall 14.4 KMPL with 50% AC and 60% highway and 40% city driving. Highway driving was involved ghat setions of about 10 KM.

City: 13.5 (40 % AC), drive real smooth - of late. :-)

Highway: 17-18
I drove on the Expressway, didn’t cross 80(at times let the car to come into the 70's before touching the accelerator), and was very light footed.

Initially I used to get 9-10 but then I used to push the revs way up. Have "detuned" my driving and its already helping. The car allows you to drive it comfortable in the 5th even when you are doing 45 KMPH. Also the fact that the road to my office is one of the smoothest in Pune with less traffic helps (evenings are a different story though).

I have done 9K on my car, and I bought it in Jan.

Saturday I had been to Mumbai and returned back yesterday. I
had been to Mira Rd (10 KM from Borivili) in Mumbai. I am from Pune and the
total run was about 410 KM. Following are the mileage details:

Model: Palio 1.2 NV Sport
Air pressure: All wheels 29 PSI
Gear changes: At 2000 RPM

1. From Pune to Mira Rd (Mumbai)
Total Run: 200 KM
City Run: 50 KM
Highway Run: 150 KM
AC use: 40%
Fuel used: 12 Lt
Average: 16.6 KMPL
Speed: Always in between 60-90 KMPH

2. From Mira Rd (Mumbai) to Pune
Total Run: 210 KM (Used a wrong way )
City Run: 60 KM
Highway Run: 150 KM
AC use: 40%
Fuel used: 13 Lt
Average: 16.15 KMPL
Speed: Always in between 70-110 KMPH

Hi..I can guess point Number:- 1 here.
It’s because of the density levels of gasoline increases/decreases with even slight change in atmospheric temperature. It’s not a wise idea though but getting it filled early morning could help because of overnight lower temperatures. So per liter of gasoline you will get more dense fuel. That fuel will have more energy levels than the low density ones. Hence you will get more mileage/performance per ltr of it. How ever personally I have never used this funda in real life situation though.

Yes, point no. 1 is due to higher density of fuels when it is cooler. Never fill in late afternoons! Point no. 4 is to perceived mainly to avoid evaporation, but in today's modern cars with expansion chambers and good sealed fuel caps/tanks it is a moot issue. The real reason for point 4 should be to avoid moisture in the fuel to condense and cause corrosion in the tank.
