Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

^^^Isn't that kinda low FE for a small diesel car ? I thought the TDCi engines were more fuel-efficient. Or is this a one-off case with your car or your driving ?

My 2010 Swift Vdi gives consistant mileage of above 19kmpl, with 100% AC, after the 30k service. I have done 6 tank full to tank full after the 30k service and every time i have got above 19kmpl. Driven 60% in Kerala 2 lane hellways and 40% in Thrissur city. Earlier I used to get between 17 to 18. I have also changed my driving style to get this improved mileage. Earlier I used to drive in 5th gear even at 40kmph but now I drive mostly in 4th gear until 60kmph.

Given that the kerala 2-lane-hellways (great job on coining such an apt name for what is wrongly called as highway currently) are crappy to say the least, the 19kmpl FE you get can be as well called city FE, which is good fuel efficiency.

SB, that's the normal range of FE for this motor. His city mileage is optimal, and only if you hover around 2000 rpm(80 kmph), you get 20+ from the Tdci.

Yes the numbers are a bit on the lower side for my conservative style of driving so far in the new car.
One of my friends who used to own a Figo TDCi in Pondy used to get consistent 22+kmpl on highways. Probably mine would improve a couple of thousand kms later, once the engine runs in.

TDCi engine depends a lot on driver's driving characteristics. If we rev more or cross 120kmph, the fuel efficiency reduces drastically. If we drive sedately under 100kmph in highway we can get 20+ also.

In case of ddis/multijet/qudrajet, the high rev or 120+ will result in minimal drop in fuel efficiency.

My Figo tdci's (Jul2012) fuel efficiency calculated by android app as below:

Best 19.57kmpl - 90% highway 75% AC around 100kmph
Average 15.31kmpl - 40% highway 60% city drive
Worst 9.45kmpl - when acquired diesel car and was learning from petrol drive to diesel driving in city.
Avg cost per km Rs.3.22
Total mileage 5552 kms

What is the Android App you use to do that calculation ? I searched in Google Store and there are so many - it is confusing.

I am using "Fuel log" which is in Google store and its free for 20 entries and then need to go for pro version which is Rs.55/- But at first you need to download free version and then go for Pro version and no data loss during Pro conversion.

Earlier was using "My Cars", but found Fuel log has so much statistics.

After driving 150kms on dusty odisha roads with 70% AC this is what the MID meter has to show. 24.1 kmpl. Pretty good figures.

770 km of highway running, FE is now 21.55 kmpl. This includes 30% 4 lane highways and the rest 2 lane roads with moderate traffic.

New swift vvt - Jan 2013 purchase

1300km on the odo.

Actual FE(70% highway 30%city) 15.45, following tankful to tankful method).

This number looks very low. Hope it improves as the engine is fully broken in.

Strangely, the MID shows an average FE of 18.3 for this period. Is such a large difference between the MID and the actuals normally so large?
