Havent compiled all the data, but the SX4 Green gave me about 24 km per kg on a recent highway trip.

Still to figure out the petrol averages for this 3500 km trip.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Figo TDCi Titanium give 19.5 kmpl in decent 80-90kmph speed and 17kmpl at 120 speeds. Done 8 highway trips with a/c fully on and found out these mileage through android application "Fuel log"

In city, I get around 14.6kmpl with 90% a/c on.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Just came back from a trip to the fuel station. Tanked up the missus' i20 petrol and was pleasantly surprised to do the usual quick math. The car has returned what I thought is an astounding FE of 14.5 KMPL for the 1.2 petrol under the car's hood. The car is not known to be that frugal.

Let me put things in perspective here: the car is driven in rush hour bumper-to-bumper traffic for easily about 90% of the time with moderate to heavy air conditioning on at all times. Usual FE figures in similar situations have tended to hover around 11-12 KMPL.

I can't think of any variables in the equation that may have changed drastically. Unless the car has decided to suddenly like the (non-existent) Mumbai winter!!

Have been getting low fuel efficiency numbers for the past two tanks. I usually check my efficiency from the on board computer since the car is mostly used by dad and the driver but the latest two tanks have showed big difference between the computer reading and manual tankful method.

These readings are on Goan roads before the mad Christmas rush.
AC 100 % on.

1st tank:
MID reading: 15.1 kmpl
Tankful method :11.5 kmpl

2nd tank:
MID reading :16.8 kmpl
Tankful method :13.5 kmpl
It is also important to know that I crossed 10k km halfway through the 1st tank. Couldn't service the car because of the rush..
Are these difference in readings between mid and tankful method normal or is something wrong?
I cannot get the car serviced right now since dad needs it urgently . Will only service it on the 3rd of Jan. As of now the city completed 11.9k km.

SWIFT VDI ABS : 21 KMPL in the recent highway trip with 70 % AC on and in city gives between 15 -16 KMPL

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

Car: RITZ VDI
Distance:457.2km
Fuel: Diesel
Qty: 24.81L
Terrain: Full city
A/C : 95%
FE: 18.43KMPL
Slight improvement from earlier 17.5 KMPL range because some 80KM was in
a non crowded area in the outskirts of Trivandrum.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My brother took the Santro Xing to Jaipur, & he ran the car for approximately 450 kms on petrol (approx 200 kms in Jaipur over 5 days), which I guess should be around 25-28 litres (there is still some fuel left in the car). So the Petrol mileage (for a CNG equipped car) should be over 16 kmpl (for mixed usage, & bad highways).

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

I think there is something wrong either with my car or with my driving style -

2009 ANHC
40,000 on the odo
Highway mileage (Mysore-Bangalore-Mysore 300km total) - 13.9 KMPL (16.00 as per on-board computer)
Computation method - tankful to tankful. Same petrol pump (HP)
2 people on board (driver+passenger) no luggage
AC on nearly 100%

Highway had relatively light traffic. I hit a top speed of 120 kmh on some sections, but otherwise restricted myself to 90-100kmh. Now, do note that the 150km stretch between Bangalore and Mysore has nearly 45 speed bumps forcing you to slow down and speed up repeatedly.

The FE numbers above really shocked me. I was expecting something in the range of 15-16 atleast. In fact on my way back, I drove carefully, not wanting to burn too much petrol on this trip - I tried to maintain a constant speed of 80-90 (between speed breakers) and upshifted as early as possible. Guess it didn't work as planned.

What is your typical FE ?

Bangalore-Mysore road is no more a yardstick for testing your best mileage. with the amount of traffic and the speed breakers, you are bound to do frequent gear shifts and playing with clutch which surely results in lesser FE. So it is not just about maintaining a speed !!

You would get a great FE if you dont have to change gears for long time after you reach top gear, Do coasting(press throttle a bit and leave for some more time etc). I wonder how often we get to do all that on Bangalore-Mysore road though

Well, it has been a while since I tested the mileage on a tankful to tankful basis. However, with MID generally shows a mileage of 15-16 during B'lore-Mysore highway runs (gen. with the driver). This is not too different from what the MID showed this time around - 16 kmpl. I guess the difference between the MID reading and the actuals is what flabbergasted me.

Dad generally has a driver for this stretch. This was one of the rare times when I was driving him on that road.

The Mysore-B'lore stretch is not really "highway driving", I agree. Driving it requires almost as much gear-shifting, stopping and accelerating as within the city. It's just that you can attain slightly higher top speeds on this stretch .

Having said that, would a diesel be better suited for this road? By nature diesels don't need those many gear changes. Maybe the gap between a diesel and a petrol on that stretch will be more than usual because of this?

My 4.5 year old Palio MJD used to give me 19kmpl for 3 years, when I used to drive 80% highways, rest city (Trivandrum)

Past year it had been a consistent 17 - 18 kmpl driving 60% highways and rest city(Kochi)

100% of the time a/c on.
Measured full tank to full tank.
Clocked 68k on the odo so far.

Re: What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?

My 2006 Ford Ikon 1.3 Flair has clocked 63000 now. I have measured the mileage by tank full to tank full method. I usually maintain 30psi in all four tyres.

Highway mileage: 17kmpl, 100% AC, 2 adults and a small kid.
City mileage: 13-14 kmpl, 50% AC, 2 adults.

Data compiled:

3515 km covered for a Delhi - Udaipur - Bombay - Pune - Aurangabad - Ajmer - Delhi trip.

About 3300 km of highway travel, including about 150 km of Delhi - Behror stretch twice at snails pace, rest 265 km of local travel in Bombay, Pune and Aurangabad.

921 km on 38.4 kg of CNG @ 23.99 KM/Kg.
2594 km on 144.73 litres of Petrol @ 17.92 KM/L

I am happily surprised at these figures.
