Re: April 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Why does the Toyota Hyryder sell only 2.6K units while the Vitara sells 7.7K units? Its like Toyota is not interested in selling it and doing contract manufacturing for Maruti.

It sells less than the Fortuner.

Re: April 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Just a fun question. This chart shows Wagon R on top of the sales chart. In some months Creta tops the chart, the other baleno and so on. Basically we have different cars from different price points toping the charts randomly. Why does this happen? Is there any pattern or fact to this occurrence?

Creta sells more than Hyryder and Grand Vitara combined. Wonder what’s stopping Toyota from manufacturing and selling more cars each month.

Re: April 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

XUV 700 5 seater + 7 seater = 4757
Hector + Hector Plus = 3103
Harrier + Safari = 2783 + 2029 = 4812

Am I reading it right? Tata, without any significant changes to the car, after 4 years, is still selling more than the XUV 700? I understand Mahindra had production constraints, but even a year and a half after launch, are they still not able to sort out the production?

And another significant point to note is that Harrier/Safari duo are due for a facelift too(in near future). Post that, their numbers are going to increase even further.

People talk about stellar success of Nexon/Punch, but I see our roads infested with Harriers and Safaris too. They have chalked success while remaining below the radar. Thanks for highlighting this often overlooked stat

It seems that there is some sort of production constrain at the Toyota plant, as the numbers are quite low compared to last month. Also there is significant waiting period on both the cars.

A sizeable chunk is being exported under the badge of both companies. And the component shortage especially hurts the higher end cars more than the lower end ones. And lastly, Toyota India may not yet be as proficient in making Suzuki designed cars as they are with Toyota designs

A contract manufacturing agreement specifies how much volume each partner can draw from total production. The lion's share generally belongs to the Company who designs and manufactures the cars. Here the equation is a bit more complicated. But I guess, there contract allows Suzuki to get a bigger share.

I feel Mahindra is prioritising ScorpioN deliveries. XUV 700 deliveries have a very long waiting period and that pushes people towards Tatas. The price of Harrier and Safari vis a vis XUV 700 comparable models is also lower by atleast 15%. Not everyone likes MG Hector and it's electrical overload. MG reach in smaller towns doesn't help too. And the Fiat diesel engine in Tatas is reliable, frugal and powerful too. No wonder they are selling well inspite of many niggles and TASS

Zero comes before No 1 on the number scale. MSIL proves it all the time!

That said there is undoubtedly a noticeable change in the Indian psyche towards safer cars. For many buyers who are aware of the significance of a safer car have made it one of their purchase priorities. No doubt there are many who don't think it matters, but I'm convinced in due course majority of the market will make more educated choices and even maruti will have to push out the tin boxes from their line up.

Why are Alcazar and Carens on different segments graphs?

I belive the harrier/safari is overall a superior product as compared to the 700.
Also, people might have started to notice the feature deduction from the 700. The AX5 misses out on some basic features.
And the harrier, with the update seems to have sorted some niggles.

Hector on the other hand seems to be doing quite well considering it misses on Diesel AT. Had it gotten the automatic with diesel, i belive it would be leading the segment.

Re: April 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Most of the customers buying the first few models of Maruti cars are moving up from two wheelers. For them they are a 1000% improvement in safety from what they were driving. They may be buying to a budget and not be ignorant of safety features. It is pure vanity to assume buyers outside TBHP are ignoramuses!

Re: April 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Dear Mods, can we mark Scorpio N as D1 segment? Given the size, price and features, i strongly feel it must be in D1.

I wish Mahindra gives split between classic Scorpio and Scorpio N, so that we can mark Scorpio N as D1.

Re: April 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

It’s very scary to look at the sales numbers of Jeep. I understand that they have a factory here and might not shut shop etc.

But look at it from a dealer’s perspective. With such low sales, how can a dealer make enough money to stay afloat? As a owner of a not so old Compass, I am genuinely worried.
