2023 Skoda Kodiaq 4x4 launched at Rs 37.99 lakh

Skoda has announced the launch of the Kodiaq for the 2023 model year in India. The SUV is available in three variants: Style, Sportline and L&K, with prices starting at Rs 37.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

The 2023 Skoda Kodiaq looks identical to the outgoing version, except for a few minor additions like door-edge protectors and a revised rear spoiler.

The interior of the Kodiaq hasn't changed much either. It comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster on higher variants. Rear passengers get a lounge step, 12-way power-adjustable front seats with cooling and heating functions and outer headrests in the 2nd row.

The 2023 Kodiaq is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that has been upgraded to comply with BS6 Phase-2 emission norms. The engine makes 188 BHP and 320 Nm and is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Skoda claims the upgraded engine is 4.2% more fuel efficient than before.

Skoda has also increased the allocation of the Kodiaq 4x4 for the Indian market. The carmaker will now ship 750 units per quarter and aims to sell 3,000 units this year.

2023 Skoda Kodiaq ex-showroom prices:

  • Style – Rs 37.99 lakh
  • Sportline – Rs 39.39 lakh
  • L&K – Rs 41.39 lakh

It is weird that you still see a steering wheel which looks like one of the spoke has been cut in a car costing 50 lakhs. It appears like they still have the old stock of the outer wheels with a notch to accommodate the third spoke and they tried to cover it with a small insert.

Brilliant car, seeing perhaps its final update before the next generation comes in. It is the ultimate value for money luxury buy. Only catch is that it is not E20 compliant, otherwise, it is simply the best car one can buy for 50L.

Tell me about it! This is the single most thing I hate in the car. In the International market, there is an option to still choose between two and three spoke unit. The two spoke is an after thought and doesn't really express the car's character which otherwise is so well designed!

I am so tempted to some how replace it with the three spoke unit!

So, a car could be BS6 phase 2 compliant yet not be able to run on E20 fuel? Thats a problem. I was thinking of buying a post April 2023 model Tiguan but if it's going to be non E20 compliant then where does one go, Electric maybe?

BS 6.2 compliance and E20 petrol compliance and two totally seperate and unrelated things. E20 is a major bogey right now. While mass market manufacturers have offically made more or less all cars E20 compliant, the premium car makers have kept a studied silence on this matter. Only BMW petrol cars are in the clear, they are rated for upto E25 as per their manual.

2023 Skoda Kodiaq is totally at home during an off-roading session at the ongoing Safer With Skoda event.

I feel the black cabin of Sportline feels so much more premium than the beige. Not to mention it comes with the three spoke steering wheel

Have never driven any of the Skodas with the 2-spoke steering wheel, but it has always been my assumption that the reasoning behind the notch in the middle is to mimic the feel of the third spoke while retaining the aesthetic of the 2-spoke wheel. It appears to me as though it would be easier to turn than a conventional 2-spoke steering wheel.

2 spoke steering may be more effective as you get more area on the rim to grip it while turning but this notch with insert will come in the way.

Probably this has to do with the tooling cost involved for an entirely new steering design (currently, same rim/wheel is shared by both 2 and 3 spoke designs).

Quite right.

Per Skoda's storyboard: the steering wheel is like an item of jewelry, but has to be functional too.

"When you’re turning a steering wheel, having as few spokes as possible is more convenient,” says Peter Olah, Head of Interior Design - Architecture - explaining one of the ideas behind the current two-spoke ŠKODA steering wheel.

More details, here.

Re: 2023 Skoda Kodiaq 4x4 launched at Rs 37.99 lakh

I have booked l&k last week in Bangalore. Expecting a confirmation on delivery date soon.

The moment the dealer plugins the booking into the system, one will get a call from skoda (Phone number starts with +91 22). Ignored the call as was busy in a meeting, however they were persistent with the call with 4 missed calls and confirmed details over phone.

As per my discussion during a short trip with sales advisor(SA) in Hyderabad (Mody auto) , the stocks are available to disburse sooner this time. Fingers crossed with the dealer in Bangalore. They were also optimistic in terms of more allocations this time around compared to last year.

This car is going to replace vw polo TDI (completing 9 years soon). I took couple of test drives in Hyderabad and Bangalore.

In Hyderabad, Mody Auto has white l&k, PPS skoda has silver grey l&k.
Drive was good on a short stretch near kukatpally where roads were wider. Really enjoyed the drive.

I got a recommendation from family to try out XUV700 , took a test drive on a neighbour vehicle on Diesel Automatic. XUV700 also felt premium with long infotainment and cockpit display. Almost 20l cheaper on road. I have been following kodiaq since it launch on team bhp , somehow decided to go with kodiaq.

In Bangalore, TAFE access has white l&k, Raja skoda has lava blue l&k.
TAFE access test drive vehicle was giving some squeaking noise whenever the steering wheel was turned. Seat position was really pathetic and the whole TD felt cumbersome in the CBD.

TD of Raja skoda was really good as the seating position was fixed in advance. However coming from a hatchback, I felt uncomfortable with the break pedal height compared to accelerator. SA told its normal in SUVs. Bright side was that the TD was done in peak bumper to bumper traffic and the auto hold feature made my day. My current vehicle is a manual , so it was a welcome change. Took a drive over a large stretch of high way and also interior roads. Did not get a feeling, its a bigger vehicle than my current drive. I am not an audiophile, played some songs via iphone, I didnot feel much difference compared to my current car. One good/bad thing is the proximity sensor beeps will takes over audio(reduced volume) whenever there is something closer to the vehicle. On top of it, the 80 kmps beeps and 120 kmps beeps are a good reminder and also irritating at times.

A general feeling while booking the kodiaq, I felt that I am following up more with SA than him/her regarding next steps. I have verbally mentioned about release of payments only after PDI and not before that. So far, SA is ok with that.
I am planning to use Team bhp PDI checklist.

I am looking to get front and rear dashcam installed.

In my current car, I have 70mai Pro Plus+ A500S Dual Channel Car Dash Cam.
I got recommendation from SA at showroom about Blaupunkt 4.0. Showroom cost came to Rs 10,999 however a quick check online was Rs 5.1K. On top of it, a point was mentioned about dash cam installation where the car developed some issue in the infotainment system and it had to be reset for an earlier owner. I was not sure what the exact problem was. Did not get a good feedback online about BP dashcams.

Any recommendations on the dashcam for kodiaq?

I wanted to go with the standard maintenance package for 4 years and also an extended warranty at a later date. What can be a good strategy here ?

Any other things, I need to be mindful of. Please pour in.

Re: 2023 Skoda Kodiaq 4x4 launched at Rs 37.99 lakh

Thanks Silver smoke for recommendation. I am waiting for SA to confirm whether they can fit the same before delivery of the vehicle. On a side note, the aircon felt a notch lower than my polo during all TDs'. Did you have similar issue and if yes, are there any workarounds?
