Re: Indian cars with good & weak air-conditioners | Share your reviews here

Have owned 3 Marutis, a Ford and now a Kia. My opinion:

2013 Wagon R - Excellent
2010 SX4 - Below expectation
2010 A-Star - Acceptable
2022 Kia Seltos - Excellent
2008 Ford Figo - Excellent

Among all the above the Seltos wins in the cooling department. The AC is very powerful and I have never used it beyond level 2 (I believe there are 7 levels available). I live in Bangalore though and that helps.

Re: Indian cars with good & weak air-conditioners | Share your reviews here

Have owned 3 cars so far.

2011 Punto D: Good AC, mostly worked fine.
2020 Abarth (preowned): Again Good AC, better than Punto D
2022 Slavia 1Ltr AT: Gets the job done, thanks to the ventilated seats, which makes it far better!

Somehow none of my cars had great AC!

Re: Indian cars with good & weak air-conditioners | Share your reviews here

Got 4 Cars in the family, 2 Maruti and 2 Hyundai. Here's how I would rate their air conditioning:

2015 Creta - Acceptable
2017 Baleno RS - Excellent
2017 Wagon-R - Excellent
2021 I20 - Acceptable

Among all the above Baleno wins in the cooling department. The AC is very powerful and almost always used it in auto mode.

Jeep compass sport petrol.
Average/mediocre AC with loud blower sound. OT: Also has pathetic headlights to boot.

Car: Innova Crysta 2.4
AC is a chiller. It's been 4 years and nothing related to the AC system has been touched(no form of cleaning/maintenance) and the AC blasts ice cold with temperature set to 24 degrees celsius with a blower speed of 3 points, not having the need to turn on rear blower when traveling with 4 people aboard.

Re: Indian cars with good & weak air-conditioners | Share your reviews here

The past...

Maruti 800 - very good ac.
Santro Xing - excellent ac. Used to cool the cabin really well!
Wagon R - good; but Santro was way ahead!
Ritz VDi - very good. But still rate Santro better!
Honday City - excellent for its size. Never a maintenance needed for AC, no gas filling, no compressor changing - nothing! Only changing the AC filter once in a year- till an odo of 80k+!

The present...

Skoda Octavia Tsi - loving the machine for everything other than the AC! Horrible even for Bangalore climate. At 40k odo, compressor was changed - still not much of a change. The Sanden European compressors are not tuned for Indian conditions. The occassional vent cleaning and filter cleaning/changing gives a better feel than yesterday. And turning off the automatic AC and putting the temp in 17 gives relief in the Chennai, Hyderabad trips in summers.

Grand i10 Nios - excellent AC . The cabin cools really fast, even during peak summer and the temp is maintained very well with auto AC.

Agreeing very much to the comments that the Asian vendors are much better than European, when it comes to the air con aspect!

Please clean/replace the air filters anyway. It is not good for the car, nor for your health to have dust choked filters.

Thanks for your concern Cresterk, I realized I've overlooked this aspect, I'll make sure to get the AC system cleaned during this year's annual service, but just curious if it's okay because the total mileage of the car is only 10,300 kms.

That’s not much running but the filters can still be clogged with dust or mold. You don’t need to specify AC system cleaning, just make sure they clean or replace the cabin air filter

Re: Indian cars with good & weak air-conditioners | Share your reviews here

I feel that Ecosport is the undisputed winner based on my years of experience driving a variety of brands and vehicles. Ford was a step ahead with a large compressor, and amazingly, you don't feel that strain on the engine with AC on in full mode.

The typical temperature in my hometown is above 40 degrees, and in the summer, it may even rise above 45. Even after keeping in the sun for more than an hour at 45 degrees, Ecosport cools the cabin in just 1.5 minutes. I typically use automode at 24 degrees, and it does a terrific job. My father, who spends time in an air-conditioned environment, claims that the Ecosport's air conditioner is stiflingly cold and raises the temperature.

An update to my ac for Glanza.
Replaced my 5 year Glanza with the new facelift Glanza and Ac cooling seems to have dropped in the facelift.

Not sure, is it the early cutoff of compressor due to increasing mileage or rear ac vents added, but it’s not at par compared to old Glanza. I had bought my new Glanza just last week.

Will be going to service centre to get it checked

Re: Indian cars with good & weak air-conditioners | Share your reviews here

Cars that I have experienced long term:
1. Crysta 2.4: Excellent, cools cabin completely even just with the front blowers.
2. Hycross: Again Excellent Similar to Crysta, though the placement of vents was much better in Crysta, in peak summer it struggles sometimes due to its compressor being electrical and battery operated but very good nonetheless. Sometimes just the front blowers are sufficient.
3. Swift: very good.
4. Dzire: Excellent, unbearably cold.
5. Vento: very good but struggles in peak summers.

Re: Indian cars with good & weak air-conditioners | Share your reviews here

Gen 2 Swift Diesel 2017- AC is a chiller.
Gen 3 Baleno Diesel 2016 - AC is meh. I am surprised that Maruti cut corners here in a vehicle that's 80% more expensive than the Swift.
Gen 4 Baleno Petrol 2022 Facelift - AC is pathetic. So much so I dislike driving it in peak summers.

Maruti Baleno Sedan : Chiller
Toyota Corolla Altis : Chiller
Renault Kiger : Good
Jeep Compass Petrol : Average

All out of experience in harsh summers above 40 degrees.

Re: Indian cars with good & weak air-conditioners | Share your reviews here

Swift Diesel VDI - AC was a chiller

i20 1.2 kappa Asta - It’ll take the crown for the worst performing AC. Terrible would be an understatement.

Taigun 1.0 AT Highline - During my travel to Nagpur-Pench when the outside temperature was hovering around 42 degree Celsius It did the job well. Of course not a chiller but never made us uncomfortable. Although no one at the back so can’t say how it would’ve been for the passengers sitting at the back. Have always kept the temperature at lowest and never used auto mode.

Creta 1.5 IVT SXo - It is 43 degrees right now and it takes its own good time to cool the cabin but after that it is good. Ventilated seats is an added bonus. No auto mode, temperature set at the lowest and fan speed between 3-4.
