Porsche Cayenne facelift debuts; bookings open in India

The 2024 Porsche Cayenne facelift broke cover earlier this week at the Shanghai Auto Show. The carmaker has also started accepting bookings for the updated model in India, with the first deliveries scheduled for July 2023.

Porsche has given the Cayenne a subtle makeover for the 2024 model year. The SUV gets reprofiled Matrix LED headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights and a redesigned front bumper. It also gets a reworked rear fascia featuring slim LED taillights with an LED light bar and dual exhausts. The Cayenne is available with a choice of 20, 21 and 22-inch wheels.

The Cayenne Coupe and Turbo GT also receive similar updates. The latter comes with dual exhausts positioned in the centre, sporty decals and different wheels.

Revamped interior of the Cayenne features three screens, including a central 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster and a third 10.9-inch display on the passenger side.

In the international market, the 2024 Cayenne is available in three variants: S, E-Hybrid Coupe and Turbo GT. The S and Turbo GT variants come with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 462 BHP and 641 BHP, respectively. The E-Hybrid version packs a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 paired with an electric motor. It makes 457 BHP and offers an electric-only range of 90 km.

I love how Porsche immediately brings their updated products to India instead of putting us on a 1 year waiting list as is the norm.

That’s thanks to the fact that Porsche has no assembly in India and it simply imports from its global plants. So will automatically switch to the new models along with the rest of the world. The flip side is that we do have to bear the crazy additional taxes for the CBUs. For the other brands with local manufacturing ops, the CKD assembly set up, testing and regulatory compliances take time and hence the typical lag.

Disappointingly, they listed only two variants for India - the base V6 and E-hybrid with no mention of the other global variants launched (S & turbo GT). The global launch itself omitted GTS and Turbo and the Indian options are further curtailed. With E-hybrid pricing also not revealed, basically only the base model is there for configuring right now. Hopefully they will increase the options later.

On the pricing front, the increase itself is not too bad at 6-7% with some upgrades included.

There are plenty of CBU imports from other manufacturers that take their own sweet time to be launched in India.
