Lexus has announced the launch of the 2023 RX in India. The SUV is available in two variants: RX350h Luxury and RX500h F-Sport+, priced at Rs 95.80 lakh and Rs 1.18 crore (ex-showroom), respectively.



Lexus showcased the fifth-generation RX at Auto Expo 2023. The SUV is based on the TNGA-K platform, measuring 4,890 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height. It has a longer wheelbase (2,850 mm) and weighs 90 kg less than the outgoing model.



The Lexus RX features a bold Spindle Grille up front flanked by sharp LED headlamps and V-shaped LED daytime running lights. The SUV has a coupe-like roofline that blends into a steeply-raked rear windshield. The car gets sleek LED taillights with a light bar in the centre.



Inside, the RX comes with a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and wired Android Auto, a head-up display and a panoramic sunroof.



The RX350h Luxury variant is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol hybrid unit that generates 247 BHP and 242 Nm. The engine is mated to a CVT and an all-wheel drive system. The RX500h F-Sport+ trim packs a 2.4-litre petrol engine paired with an e-motor, developing 366 BHP and 460 Nm. Both variants have a claimed top speed of 200 and 210 km/h respectively.

Lexus RX500h deliveries begin in India

It has been almost a year since Lexus launched the RX500h in India. The SUV is priced at Rs 1.18 crore (ex-showroom), and deliveries have now begun.



The fifth-generation Lexus RX is based on the TNGA-K platform. The carmaker offers two variants of the SUV in India – the RX350h Luxury and RX500h F-Sport+.

Who is buying these cars? Don’t recall seeing one ever. Heck, I didn’t know something called a RX existed in India! I get the ES300, makes a good case for itself as a premium luxury car that is also a reliable workhorse. But the rest of the range makes absolutely no sense to me. I mean, why should I buy an RX500 over an X5 or a GLE or a Defender?

I have seen quite a few high end Lexus cars in Kerala. These generally appeal to buyers who have no qualms about the significant purchase price but gets frustrated by expensive service costs. There is perceived advantage on reliability as well.

I own a Lexus ES300h and RX500h F-Sport is a serious contender to the likes of BMW X5 (381 bhp). RX500h (366 bhp) has a great surge of torque given its dual electric motor (AWD). Given the yearly insurance (59,000rs) and maintenance (19,000rs) - (which is very cheap) compared to the german rivals and also superior reliability - I would go for a Lexus RX (if the GX doesn't end up in our shores).

Also its not that easy to get a RX or any Lexus for that matter as there is a waiting period for these vehicles. I had one for mine too. Cars for India are built in Lexus Tahara plant and sent to India via SKD route.
