BMW X1 diesel prices hiked by Rs 3 lakh; now costs Rs 51 lakh!

BMW has increased the prices of the X1 sDrive18d M Sport by Rs 3 lakh. The SUV is now priced at Rs 50.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The price of the sDrive18i xLine remains unchanged.

BMW X1 diesel prices hiked by Rs 3 lakh; now costs Rs 51 lakh!-2023bmwx1112.jpg

The third-generation BMW X1 was launched in January this year. The SUV is available with a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that makes 132 BHP @ 4,400-6,500 rpm and 230 Nm @ 1,500-4,000 rpm. The M Sport variant is offered with a 2.0-litre diesel that outs out 148 BHP @ 3,750-4,000 rpm and 360 Nm @ 1,500-2,500 rpm. Both engines are mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that drives the front wheels.

The updated X1 gets a larger kidney grille with reworked LED headlamps, L-shaped LED daytime running lights and new bumpers; among others.

Inside, the new X1 features a curved display that sits atop the dashboard, similar to the new 7 Series. The screen houses a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The X1 also gets features like adaptive LED headlights, an automatic tailgate, park assist, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and ADAS.

Really surprised to see this, I am not sure how many buyers are going for it. For me its really not worth even the pre-hiked price. Anyone has sales figures of the new gen X1?

Just wondering, is this the LEAST powerful diesel passenger vehicle that one could buy for half a crore ex-showroom?

Re: BMW X1 diesel prices hiked by Rs 3 lakh; now costs Rs 51 lakh!

BMW could be having a tough time selling 3 pot petrol mill for 50 lakh. This could be a deliberate attempt to create considerable price difference between the two versions so that people see more value in petrol version. Earlier price difference between X1 18i and X1 18D was 2 lakh and now it’s 5 lakh.

I think BMW did a mistake here, instead of increasing the power figures they increased the price

This makes an even better case for X3 now. Pre-owned or new, X3 is anyway better.

Are they adopting a strategy to maximise profits instead of numbers? Won’t be surprised considering the responses the new X1 has got from enthusiasts.

Re: BMW X1 diesel prices hiked by Rs 3 lakh; now costs Rs 51 lakh!

Quite sad prices & even sadder engines. But remember guys, the X1 has these lame engines just to meet CAFE targets, so that they can sell us more of the 6-cylinder M340i & gang . Click here for more information on the same.

Regardless, I don't understand why they cannot offer better engines, over and above these entry level ones. Let the customer choose!

The X1 has such sad engines that BMW didn't even organise media test-drives or have it in the media fleet. BMW knew they'll get panned in the reviews. This is why no automotive media has reviewed the '23 X1 so far. What times we live in. Hyundai just launched a 158-BHP C2 segment sedan (Verna), while Mr. Ultimate Driving Machine BMW is selling 132 horses for 50 lakhs!

The numbers don't back up the claim that the sad engines are for CAFE reasons. If they were so concerned about CAFE norms, they'd be introducing hybrid models.

X1 18i: 143-158g/km
X1 23i: 146-162g/km

X1 18d: 129-144g/km
X1 23d: 125-140g/km

X1 hybrid 30e: 16-23g/km

So the 4 cyl petrol with a decent 218HP is only 2.5% worse than the 18i, and the more powerful 23d with 200PS actually emits less CO2 than the anemic 18d!

The true reasons are more likely just pure greed, artificial differentiation vs X3 & the quiet comfort in knowing that the non-enthusiasts who just want gizmos & a BMW badge will still lap it up.

I don’t think it’s just a case of CAFE norms. Internationally, I think the X1’s higher spec engines this time around (20 and 23 d/I) are offered only with all wheel drive and power of 220 bhp or more. These combined with the newer interiors and larger size (vs the outgoing car) will make the X3 a tough sell for BMW in India. I’m willing to bet that is the primary reason the engines have been downgraded. These aren’t particularly low on emission in any case.

Now we can officially declare BMW X1 2023 as DOA (Dead on arrival) product.

BMW India should have reduced price by 3 lakh and increased horse power. But they did the opposite.

Sales will go down further down. Were there any X1 sold to start with? Who would want to buy these slow BMW?

How will BMW India get average CAFE value under target when no X1 sells?

How is it that Mercedes is selling GLA with 220d engine with 190 Horsepower and Audi selling Q3 40 TFSi with 190 Horsepower.

Why aren't they detuning engines?

Something is terribly wrong with BMW India.

Only car that makes sense in BMW India lineup is M340i and upcoming X3 M40i.

Re: BMW X1 diesel prices hiked by Rs 3 lakh; now costs Rs 51 lakh!

Isn't, power figure a not so difficult compromise for lot of people to do? majority I would say.

Haven’t seen the sales scene but other than little cross shopping among the 3 doubt they would lose much as at the end of the day the aspirants to climb this ladder are ever increasing.

Plus, for Lot of the Gen Z and millennials, until unless they look for it, won't have the price or power data points in their head, their decision-making won't be affected by these matrixes, and they are the future audience for the companies.

Point is large corporations do tend to win.

Re: BMW X1 diesel prices hiked by Rs 3 lakh; now costs Rs 51 lakh!

X1 has major role in for sales boost in India, and its often self driven car, yes such punny engines, specially in petrol, which is obvious choice in NCR region. No wonder BMW sales are going down. Even One third priced Kushaq has more powerful petrol engine.

Re: BMW X1 diesel prices hiked by Rs 3 lakh; now costs Rs 51 lakh!

That 3L increase is too steep and unnecessary ! We got the old X1 (diesel/Xline/190 bhp) last year and seeing the prices the gap between what we paid and getting this 150 bhp is 15L !
I really like the way it looks (interiors+exteriors), but getting the outgoing model is probably proving the better deal for people which should never be the case with any product.

Re: BMW X1 diesel prices hiked by Rs 3 lakh; now costs Rs 51 lakh!

65L on road cost for a 3-cylinder engine with less than 150hp? I will be curious to see how many they are able to sell. That will be a reflection of how much people are willing to shell out just for a BMW badge.

Or may be India has a large class of people for whom 65L is not a big deal!
One plausible reason for such puny engine in X1, as someone mentioned, could be to stop cannibalization between X1 and X3 and force customers to go for X3 instead (for a few lakhs more).
