BMW X3 M40i coming soon to India

As some of the members have been asking, BMW India is getting some units of the BMW X3 M40i. They will like to price pretty competitively though the duties will be a spoiler. From 1st April, the new duty structure is 70% on the cars costing less than 40K USD which used to be 60% before.

I am expecting it to be priced around the same as M2 or X6 (before) i.e 1- 1,10Cr. Now, this will be high compared with M340i but being a CBU and the duties, can't fault BMW India.

Hope they launch the G30 in the 40i trim as well. G60 is a long way away, haven't even had its global debut so we don't know when will it come to India. A 540i M Sport in the interim would be a great makeshift arrangement till the brand-new model arrives.

The best thing that can come to India!

The X3 with the B58 40i will be the perfect-sized performance crossover for Indian roads! No need to worry about the ground clearance as well…

Just some food-for-thought though, at 1Cr-1.1Cr won’t it be better to get a X5 40i? Yes, I agree being a CBU in limited numbers the X3 M40i will be novelty to own. It will carry a similar price as the X3M when it was available in India.

Yup the first few cars are already shipped out. CBU pricing but will be less than 1 cr (ex showroom). Only black (not carbon) and grey in the first lot with black interiors. Delivery in a time frame of 2-3 months from now. Wish the naming was simpler with M everywhere now.

Good to see BMW bringing in the 40i trim. But last time the full X3M was available at ex-showroom of 99 Lac, with about 473 HP. Why not just bring that one again, if they are using the CBU route anyway?

Wonder why they can’t just assemble the CKDs in India given that the engine is now used in multiple other cars assembled here and the X3 can actually get pretty good volumes if they manage competitive pricing like the m340i. The 40i is the engine that can help maintain the brand identity while they cater more and more to luxury commuters in terms of volumes.

So true. Not only are the vehicles being assembled here from CKD kits, both the B48 & B58 engines themselves are being built by Force Motors.

I guess the answer lies in the CAFE requirements; cannot think of any other earthly reason why vehicles like the 540i or the X3M40i cannot be sold freely here.

Capacity issues with the plant here. They are trying to price the X3 M40i competitively here, so let's see. Can't decide on the pricing until the cars land on Indian shores.

Re: BMW X3 M40i coming soon to India

BMW is all set to launch the X3 M40i in India next week, with deliveries set to begin in May.

Quote:
Bookings for BMW X3 M40i will also commence next week
Quote:
Under the hood, the X3 M40i has the same powertrain as the M340i – a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine. However, in the X3 M40i, the engine produces 360hp, 14hp less than the M340i, but the torque figure remains the same at 500Nm of torque.

All this power is delivered to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The X3 M40i can sprint from 0-100kph in a claimed 4.9 seconds, which is just 0.5 seconds slower than the M340i.

The M40i is limited to a top speed of 250kph.

Re: BMW X3 M40i coming soon to India

I hope they start assembly of the x3 40i. I was really looking forward to this as a replacement for my x3 3.0d.

The pricing seems ridiculous if it's in the 1 cr range. It should be priced around the 340i.

The x3 is way more practical than the 3 series. Ground clearance and highway munching are great. Good size for the city too. Hope they do start local production.

Re: BMW X3 M40i coming soon to India

I heard the ex showroom pricing is going to be around 1 crore. I guess that’s the CBU factor. I really wish this could come in local assembly. Sadly CBU means this will likely hit 1.25 cr give or take on road at least in states like MH where the CBU duties are sky high.

Re: BMW X3 M40i coming soon to India

I think the biggest competitor for the X3 M40i is going to be the X5 40i. One can get the latter for less than the speculated price that the X3 M40i is being launched at (approx 98 lakhs ex-showroom for the X5 40i MSport as compared to 1 Cr+ for the X3M40i).

You get the same engine with a more versatile and comfortable interior, plus superior features such as adaptive suspension and laser lights. Yes, you may miss a few items such as MSport differential and MSport suspension, but these are more than made up for with the top notch feature set the X5 has. For those seeking pure driving pleasure without care for interior conveniences or transporting a bunch of passengers, there is always the M340i.

Good point but I think there is a niche market here for a self-driven X3 M40i where the wealthy owner wants the convenience of a rocket engine/tranny combo + relatively smaller footprint more amenable to urban roads + somewhat anonymous look.

The X5 is like a ostentatious Bandra 1BHK on wheels.

Couldn’t agree more, another competitor will be the CKD AMG GLC43 Coupe which has no competition since its launch from rival brands. I really hope BMW India has plans to assemble the X3 M40i in India via the CKD route.

The M40i tune is different compared to the 40i available in the X5.

The X3 M40i’s engine specs are 360hp and 500Nm, meanwhile the X5 40i’s specs are 335hp and 450Nm. Trust me being lighter the X3 will provide a completely different driving experience with just a few horses and Nm of torque over the X5.

But yes if I was paying 1Cr+, my choice would be the X5 40i simply because it’s a class above the X3.

Meanwhile I heard that the X5 LCI is also going to be launched soon in India, maybe in the coming week itself, so expect a price hike with the LCI.
