2023 Maruti Ignis launched at Rs. 5.82 lakh; gets ESP & Hill Hold Assist

Maruti Suzuki has launched the updated Ignis for the 2023 model year. The car comes with an RDE-compliant engine and is priced at Rs 5.82 lakh (ex-showroom).

The 2023 Ignis is powered by a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine which now complies with the BS6 Phase-II norms. It develops 82 BHP and 113 Nm and is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT.

As you may have noted, the base price of the Ignis has gone up by Rs 27,000. This is partly due to the upgraded engine. Maruti has also introduced additional safety features on the Ignis. The car now comes equipped with Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and hill hold assist across all variants.

2023 Maruti Suzuki Ignis ex-showroom prices:

  • Sigma – Rs 5.82 lakh
  • Delta – Rs 6.36 lakh
  • Delta AMT – Rs 6.91 lakh
  • Zeta – Rs 6.94 lakh
  • Zeta AMT – Rs 7.49 lakh
  • Alpha – Rs 7.59 lakh
  • Alpha AMT – Rs 8.14 lakh

Maruti knows exactly what is needed to make this SUV more capable!
A very welcome addition to an already very capable car! <3

I purchased the Zeta variant in May'22. Whats surprising for me is that Maruti still hasn't introduced Idle start/stop and the dual VTVT engine variation (a.la Baleno/Swift) in the Ignis.

I think even the WagonR 1.2 L comes with dual VTVT and idle start stop. Not sure what's stopping Maruti from introducing Dual VTVT in the Ignis - perhaps the most underrated small car in the segment today.

All bells and whistles is fine. And here Maruthi exactly knows what to give to mass junta. Success and Safety both are underrated for this cute car.
If Maruthi had managed a 3*, definitely it would have attracted some more audience.

Its a 3 Star Car.

After the standards have changed, its rating went lower, but it was a 3 star car as per the old standards.

Maruti removed Idle start-stop even from Swift. I guess, it would be starting from Baleno onwards.

Regarding your comment on Dual jet motor, I think the new Baleno base model comes with this old engine, hence they have retained the same for heavy duty price conscious users. [When launched, this was the case. Not sure of current status]. The real time FE difference is hardly 0.5 Km i guess.

Sub-standard sheet metal quality and build quality plus poor safety ratings. Enough said!

It’s surprising that Ignis doesn’t have Idle start stop feature as our 2022 Spresso AMT purchased in October does have it along with Hill hold and ESP. It’s very strange if Ignis misses out on it.

Maybe we shouldn't compare these products features.

SPresso is targeted to provide utmost efficiency and it being a 3 Potter, The power needed for Idle start-stop should be much lower.

On the other hand, the Ignis is atleast 2 levels above SPresso, with a bigger 4 Cylinder engine. The start stop might not be as efficient in these cars, considering they just have a 35 Amp battery in them. Considering the price point at which it is sold, MSIL cannot add all available features.

Well I doubt if it’s left out because of power requirements to start the car again.

I just checked and it looks like all Maruti and Nexa cars except Ignis does have Idle start stop technology irrespective of the band they sit in i.e. from Alto to Ciaz / XL6. And I doubt 3 or 4 potter makes difference here. Fuel efficiency is important for folks buying SUVs as well, the reason BEV’s are getting traction in 25-30 lac SUV market.

And Idle start / stop is quite smart feature as it’s seamless and doesn’t impacts audio, AC blower, headlights etc and if stop is more then 90 seconds approximately, car starts automatically again to not only to prevent battery discharge but also ensures AC kicks in if it’s in On state.

Why just one car from complete portfolio is left outside of this technology, only Maruti can tell.

Nice! Hill hold was the only feature that was missed in the Ignis AMT everything was/is perfect as a city car.

If it doesnt have auto start stop then thank god for that! It means in MT variant I don't have to push the clutch into the abyss to start the vehicle. It was a proper irritant in the BaGlanza MT.

Please don't take their marketing materials by heart, they have the gall to call the S-Presso, a mini-SUV. If this was indeed a satire, I completely missed it.

Peace ☮
