Re: 2023 Tata Harrier & Safari bookings open; now with ADAS

Tata Harrier & Safari fuel efficiency figures revealed

Last week, Tata Motors took the wraps off the updated Harrier and Safari. Both SUVs get several changes on the outside as well as on the interior. While they are mechanically identical to their predecessors, there has been a slight improvement in claimed fuel efficiency.

Under the bonnet, the Harrier and Safari facelift continue to use the same 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes 168 BHP and 350 Nm. The engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Harrier facelift has a claimed fuel efficiency of 16.80 km/l for the manual and 14.60 km/l for the automatic version. On the other hand, the new Safari returns 16.30 km/l and 14.50 km/l for the manual and automatic versions, respectively.

Tata Motors is offering the Harrier and Safari facelifts in four trims. The SUVs now come equipped with several new features, including ADAS, with Adaptive Cruise Control, 7 airbags, a new gear knob dubbed ‘Smart E-Shifter’, paddle shifters and dual-zone automatic climate control with a touch-based control panel. There’s also a new steering wheel with an illuminated logo, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with Navigational Display, and a 10-speaker JBL audio system.

Sir, with all due respect you seem to have missed my post on an earlier page where I have pointed out clearly that at no point I have blamed Tata or sales guys for not telling me anything. Please read my note on this post below before you come to a conclusion.

Off-topic

Earlier it was Toyota's fiefdom, now Mahindra and Tata too are partners in it. But, sadly this is how the car prices have only gone north after COVID lockdown with everyone scrambling to get their hands on new launches. There are multiple factors at play like geopolitical, inflation, wage increase, returns from markets, etc., but I agree the jump in prices are little too steep and at times does not justify value.

For a vehicle weighing in at close to 1.8 tons at the kerb; this is a pretty decent figure. I guess, in real world conditions 9-10kmpl in city and 13-14kmpl on highways should be achievable.

With the new trend, I was expecting they would bring the seamless single display panel for infotainment & instrument cluster just like in XUV700, Seltos, and other SUVs.

In my 2022 Harrier automatic:

I get 10-11 km/ltr in heavy pune traffic.

If I am driving late night in city which means there is no traffic or less traffic then I can get 12-13 km/ltr.

While out on highways I get 17-19 km/ltr. If I am a bit too "enthusiastic" then highway mileage drops to 16 km/ltr.

These figures have been measured through tank-tank method.

So the figures you mentioned can be achieved easily.

Fuel efficiency has never been an issue with this motor. I have driven Harrier, Hector, and Compass 2.0 diesel and it was fairly easy to extract 17-19kmpl on highways and 12+ in cities. Refinement levels could be better for sure. It is not as smooth as the Mhawk and not even close to Hyundai diesels.

New Harrier seems to have a more wider grin using DRL and connected too. Normal lights are now getting reduced in size, one really has to search for it. Not sure, if this is the new design trend nowadays. Hyundai Verna also has taken this route.

I am a Tata fan boy but these two 'new' cars won't bring me to buying one.

A 4x4 was really expected by us all. So was a turbo petrol.
They didn't sort out the ergonomics of the dash and central console. Like the Nexon, Tata is actually eye washing us with stuff that appears to be very modern and competent. But it isn't really all that worth it in the end.

Yes. It's one of those face lifts that look worse than the original. Less is always more. Designers seem to think making something busy means progress.. It isn't always so.

Agreed!! The Rims on both Harrier and Safari #Dark Editions have been shown to be the same Spider Alloys - 19inchers.

Hoping, the regular versions of Harrier also get the option of the 2 tone Spider Alloys, they would do justice to the Harrier's stance as well.
