Re: 2023 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Facelift : A Close Look

Hi Everyone!

I am new to Team-BHP as well as car ownership. This is actually my first comment/post on Team-BHP, so I request forgiveness from mods if I am doing it wrong.

Recently, our family welcomed a Grand i10 Nios Sportz Dual Tone trim in January 2024. Having driving experience only in an older Santro Xing, I found the new car to be extremely comfortable (but with very high dashboard level compared to Santro Xing). I have put up roughly 2500 km mostly on highways. Car has gotten 1st service done without any issues reported. However, I am facing 2 specific issues and I am not sure if it is specific to my car or me being new to car driving and ownership (rode a bike before this)
  1. I found the car to have limited pull between 1000-2000 rpm (to be specific, I have a habit of up-shifting to 3rd gear when car reaches 20-25 kmph and the tachometer shows around 1200 rpm. here the cars pulls extremely sluggishly till 2000 rpm, after which there is a noticeable change in the pulling for the same throttle input). This has become a problem as I seem to be sluggish starting off the blocks especially at a signal. So, I've resorted to up-shifting only after around 2500 rpm
  2. I drive within the city in Bangalore and am getting a mileage of only 10-11 km/litre (as per the gauge) in Bangalore traffic. I felt this is quite low for a small car. Admittedly, these were during hot summer days and the AC temperature was set to 24 degrees. On highways I am getting about 18-19 km/litre.
So, I request esteemed senior members and fellow i10 Nios owners to please guide me on these 2 doubts as I am not expecting much of a response from service centre guys.

I have found the same with my i20 which is powered by the same engine. The 1.2 L petrol is most sluggish in 3rd gear, it will feel responsive only if you keep the rpm >2400. Other than that it is a relaxed cruiser.

Your car will give a f.e. of 12-14 in city after you drive >5000 km. I highways the max i have managed is 17 kmpl . The nios probably has a slightly lower kerb weight so it can be 1 km more.

In my experience , the fuel economy improves quite a lot with a/c off (at least 2 km above average), which has led me to think that the a/c is more responsible for the lower f.e. than any other factor. The a/c in i20 is a chiller but i dont have any idea about its capacity.

Not a Nios owner, but have owned many cars and presently own the Tiago NA. That car also has a flat spot in the second gear in the same rpm range. Best to let the car rev through 2000 rpm+ and then upshift.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Facelift : A Close Look

My impressions on Grand i10 Nios facelift:

A couple of days ago, we friends did a trip of 700 Kms (to and fro) to Vijayawada and Chirala beach in a Grand i10 Nios Asta AMT MY23 (Facelift) owned by a friend of mine, who lives in our gated community. His previous car was OG 2013 i10 TC AT (the one before Grand i10 got launched) though he owns other cars (2018 Creta 1.6 D MT and a 2019 Swift DDIS) though he doesn't drive any of these cars due to him being physically handicapped. He felt lots of difference between his old i10 and Nios in terms of engine performance and FE. He felt his previous i10 bit laggy despite being mated to 4 speed TC AT gearbox while at the same time, Nios felt more eager and peppy to drive despite being mated to 5 speed AMT gearbox.

As per him, the Nios returns much better FE when compared to his previous i10. We got the FE of around 19.5 Kmpl during this trip while in city, he gets around 14-15 Kmpl, which I felt decent considering that Hyundai Petrols are known for being thirsty.

The car felt smooth and stable even after doing speeds of 100+ Kmph though felt bit bouncy on broken roads though never felt discomfort while travelling.

And, the performance of AC was excellent, more so that it chilled our bones and it performed well in Andhra's scorching heat, where the outside temperature was 37 degrees celsius. The whole car got cooled within 5 mins or less of turning on the AC.

Though I'd driven the 2012 i10 TC AT owned by my cousin, who bought it used last year and it struggled a bit while climbing on the inclines, where I had to use L mode during this situation and it was thirsty as well.

And, TBH, Hyundai has tuned the AMT gearbox very well.

I loved this car so much that I felt like buying one as a third car/city car at home.

Another friend of mine, who owns an Endeavour, bought a facelifted Nios Sportz in Teal Blue colour, which is the most popular colour choice in Nios, albeit in MT guise and has run 20k Kms in a year though he was initially keen on getting a White coloured Swift ZXI as he owned a 2014 2nd gen Swift ZDI in same colour before until his younger brother insisted him on getting the Nios over Swift.

I somehow felt the overall build quality of Nios better than Swift.

Based on the ownership of my friend's Nios AMT, a guy, who also lives in our gated community, saw his car and asked him each and everything about this car, which made him getting one in Sportz AMT trim as a city car though he has Harrier AT for other purposes.

This car has become the most popular choice among the households of our gated community and most of the Nios I see are Sportz variant donned in Teal Blue colour. This shows how popular the variant and the colour is among the households in our gated community while my friend's is the only Asta variant and that too in rare Fiery Red colour in this gated community while another person, who also lives in same lane as ours, owns a 2020 Nios Sportz AMT in Grey colour and another Sportz AMT was bought in Silver colour, which is the recent one.

Apart from 700 Kms trip we did this week, we also did a short trip of 400 Kms (to and fro) in this very car a couple of weeks ago and never felt discomfort in this car.

Overall, my friend has no regrets in getting this car though he wanted to get a bigger car like i20 or Baleno over the Nios.

If someone is looking for a second car or third car, I'd easily recommend the Nios easily.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Facelift : A Close Look

Hello Fellow Grandi10 nios owners,

We have a grand i10 nios (facelift) in the family. I have the below queries :-

1) we find the suspension a bit too stiff for our comfort. Just wondering, Is this with all grand i10 nios or something I need to get checked ?

2) on reducing the tyre pressure below 30 psi, the tyre pressure monitor throws up an error ? Again is this with all i10’s because a lot of other cars have an allowance till 26 psi before the error comes up.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Facelift : A Close Look

My wife is getting a Grand i10 Nios AMT Sportz version. Delivery is scheduled shortly, and I would follow up this post with the car buying experience later in this forum.

While this model fits all of our requirement, one thing I am not happy about is that the underside of the engine bay is not covered. While we do not have any rat menace in our parking space (though not ruling it out if we have to park it on the roadside) however broken roads and flying stones are a risk worth mitigating. Checked with the service advisor, but he was unable to point me out to any genuine accessories. I did see a few listings of engine cover by Mobis on Boodmo, but I am not sure if they would serve the purpose I am looking for.

I need your advice on where can I get a suitable engine splash guard or how to address this problem.

This has happened in my Grand i10 Nios as well. I started getting the error even when the pressure was 30 psi. The only solution that worked for me was increasing the pressure beyond 33 psi for all tyres (I think I saw it in one of the threads).

You are correct, the TPMS will show an error if the psi on any tyre falls to 28-29. It is perhaps calibrated that way by the company to encourage users to maintain a pressure above 30psi (I personally don't go below 31-32). A way to solve this problem is to overinflate the tyre by 2-3psi (till 35 or so), switch the ignition on, the TPMS will then read the new pressure and reset, and then you can release the extra air. It is a bit annoying for sure but I refill the air in my car every month and have encountered this warning only 2-3 times total in the 18 or so months of ownership.

I'd suggest buying tools like this superb analog gauge in addition to this convenient cordless air filler to make the job much easier and faster.
