Love to see pics. And what I wouldn't give to drive it before you swap the engine.
XDP4.9 actually performs kind of OK with a good GB. I have mated it with an isuzu 5 speed 4wd gb and used on a jeep. The overdrive works wonders actually. Anyway the plan is to drive it with the XDP4.9 for the time being.

Hope to get pictures( and the car) by Monday.

The Innova engine may be a tad harsh - my experience form my Innova. By the same token some of the grey import Toyota sedans have the same engine in non common rail format so with the right mounts/damping this could be the best solution, expensive unless you score a low miles total loss piece. Not sure of you gearbox swap though as they are mostly configuered/ratioed for body type. Unless you have done the calculations. I would go for some sort of sedan turbo diesel engine. Found Isuzu engines to be refines more suited for sedans.

Pics???

The chariot of the President?

The then President, R Venkataraman, had contemplated purchasing the Standard 2000 as his official car ( remember this from Business World magazine article, c. 1987). Don't really know whether the car was ordered for the President.

In an aside, I remember seeing a carton of India Kings cigarettes, with each packet embossed with the seal of the President, during the time N Sanjeeva Reddy was President, as a small kid. Heard that Sanjeeva Reddy was a smoker.

Regards

Just stumbled upon this thread. This car was one of my dreams while growing up. This earned a notoreity in Kerala when the then Chief Minister K. Karunakaran had a near-fatal accident while riding in it in. It is said that the car was doing 120+ kph. Going by the looks of the battered car, no one should have escaped!

single owner standard 2000

This single owner pristine standard 2000 with low kms on the odometer is for sale.
the only negative is it has a DIESEL engine which is endorsed in the RC.
all other items are original, including the seats and the paint.
actually this is one of the few remaining good examples of the marque in KERALA.

@ fulltime4wd : Congrats brother. I'm you can source the spares for this car. It's going to be painful but I'm sure you must be aware of it.
