Sudhindra:

Any news on this? I am interested! Please PM me if the car is still for sale.

I would soon start earning and I have always loved the S2000 for its looks! Hopefully I find one in decent condition for about 50-60k to make it my first ever own Car :) Its a brilliantly beautiful car and we have not had an affordable, true fastback car after the S2000 sadly!

This is a modified 1986 Standard 2000.The dash and the engine are original and so are many of the mechanicals and electricals. These are those that came with the car. The basic body has been modified to resemble a Ferrari- I am not sure which Ferrari model it replicates.
The rear seat leg space is almost nil and only children can be seated there happily. Preferred age for the back seat is upto five years as any child six and above may ask for more and may even push the ones on the front seat for equal rights if he or she is uncomfortable.:)
The boot is cavernous and also has enough space for the stepney in the compartment below the partitioned, upper segment seen in this picture.
The fit and finish of the overall modification is quite good and chic. The slick job has been skilfully executed. The work was done at Manvendra Singh's workshop at Indore, M.P.The car was in Indore and has been brought from there.

:OT @ Anjan: Can you also scan the page with the Mayura details that can be seen on the cover of the mag. Not much is known about it. Did it eventually make it to the market? If yes, how many were sold?

An uncle owned one of these back in those days! He named his German Shepard dog after the distinct cousin - Rover. I distinctly remember he had opted for a certain shade of maroon for the car, probably even the exact same color that's in the pictures above. This car was huge. Almost boat-like. I didn't really care about the engine then, but there was so much space everywhere in the cabin and the boot would gobble up anything we would throw in there. This was actually THE car that made me look up to cars for more than something that would take you from one place to another. It was art. To own one myself, later down the road, became a dream. How I miss those days. RIP Standard. You won't be forgotten.

This is the car looks fresh even after 4 decades. There are still few cars left in your city. One of my friend got inspired by seeing this car in Hyderabad, He started searching the STD 2000 to Own.He found one car from Ahmadabad. But He started restoration but unable to complete due to his personal reasons, so He stopped in between before painting and Planning sell in as it is condition. It have Diesel Engine Nissan SD22 endorsed, all tinkering work done.if any one willing to take I will provide his details.

My uncle had this car for a breif period. There was nothing so sleek and aerodynamic on our roads, this car came way before esteem.

It was a guzzler and would return between 3-5kpl.
Electricals would fail very often, but it used to glide on our roads.
Ultimately they had to scrap the car since there were no buyers.

Most of the Non Fuel efficient cars will go to scrap in India, the list started with Standard 2000 after Deawoo Cielo and Now Hundai Sonata and Elantra. Most of the standard 2000 went scrap initially with petrol Engines , Later Diesel converted cars also went to scrap due to spares non availability. only very few no. of cars left in India and counts around 10 to 20 Nos. in Running condition. Finally My friend in Hyderabad scrapped the car to the scrap dealer last week after He spend around 2 lac. Rs. on it.

There's one in decent condition in my Apartment. What a majestic looking car. It's quite huge and love the flowing design of the rear windshield.

The best part of the car has been carnally ripped out and the heart which desperately needed a transplant has been left untouched. Very sad to see this one. He could have done this with a TATA Estate or something.

My first thought to restore the car with out any modification during purchase, Later I thought of making minor modification to make the look unique. SO I created Mood board to finalize the modication in detail.and I keep in mind that the modification can be reversed at any time to bring back the originality with No time. So I planned very carefully before start the work. The story of the Standard 2000. 1985-1988-concept-exterier-112x8.jpg
