One of the few videos where it shows Jimny's off-road capabilities, mostly in the second half of the video:

Sorry, but it can't be worse than the 1st gen Thar for sure. The 1st gen Thar was just an old jeep with IFS and a new engine, unlike the 2nd gen Thar which is a more rounded product. jeep lovers gonna flame me for sure. :p

The styling is a mini G-wagen for sure, but Suzuki is definitely not resting on the jeep legacy like Mahindra did. IMHO, it is a pretty big insult to call it a pretender (or any of the other SUVs that can be traced to be jeep pretenders like Range Rover, Land Cruiser, Patrol). It is a respectable off-roader in its own way and dare I say staying true to its roots.

Booked one at the local nexa showroom.Initially they told 11k which was later changed to 25k.
Payment receipt given. But no booking number

On paper looks underpowered and under revved :-) Thar, XUV 300 have more power. But given that it is Maruti and will be well engineered, will be light and will have better power to weight ratio. Better pick up and acceleration. Hope they price it sensibly for a second car.

Okay in that case this will be a poor man's Thar. :)

Depends on the pricing, wont it. if this is pegged at a 1-1.5 lakh premium to the Punch, it makes sense as a car. (Size-wise it will be closer to a Punch than a 5 door thar).

Anywhere in the 3 lakh range of the 5 door thar and this car stops making sense. The convertibility of the Thar, the butch looks, the Road presence and the Legacy in India, does command that premium.

I am not great with pricing of different cars as, honestly, with soo many variants and high degree of overlap, the segments have really gotten confusing and blurred over the years.

It is surprising that Maruti hasn't offered AT tyres. Is the AWD intended only to drive through the potholes? I would have also preferred side foot steps for looks, convenience and side body protection.

Lets be honest, this vehicle is much more capable than what an average off-roader/ mountain driving enthusiast will ever require, and will give minimal stress due to Maruti service network and cheaper spares.

Also, the small footprint is actually something I personally (and maybe many others in this forum) prefer due to cramped city parking spaces and challenging maneuvering in city traffic.

Maruti wont price it at 10 lac, ,people wont buy it at 20 lac, so my thought is the price will be anywhere between 12-15 lac. It will be positioned as a true off roader compared to the crossovers in the same price range.

Good to see "ventilated disc brakes" at the front on the Jimny 5 door. A first for a Jimny/Gypsy/Samurai. Until now all Jimnys including 4th gen 3 door had solid disc brakes at the front (like the Gypsy).

I never thought I would say this, but I quite like it in the 5 door disguise.... except for that power plant! Will definitely do a test drive of this vehicle. Good news is it is a relatively known engine and some engine tweaks would be possible without much fuss.

Overall 4* to MSIL for the execution of the 4 door project.

Booked Alpha AT on 12th itself. Delivery to start in May. Let’s see when actually it is delivered.

I find it very strange that while the Fronx is available for online booking the Jimny is not. And you need to pay a booking premium for it at the dealer while all the other cars including the Vitara can be booked for 11k.

Drive on,
Shibu

This is a product that could prompt a lot of impulsive purchases for sure if maruti decides against pricing it badly. I wish for Maruti to price it at par with the Thar 4wd so that I, and a quite a few more, won't go more broke buying it!

If they price a base model at 9.99L, nah, they won't.

I think half the people booking think it is the new Gypsy, only time will tell.
