Meanwhile in Brazil Suzuki launches the Jimny Sierra (3d) in 5 versions with different styles and proposals.
Could be available as accessories for the 5d variant too?

Quote:

An unprecedented version in the range, the 4Expedition arrives with an off-road proposal and several characteristic elements of the off-road. The list includes suspension lift kit, MTR tires for specific use, snorkel with new design, aluminum skid plate, rock slider and ladder on the rear cover with exclusive X-liner finish.

Looking at interviews, I guess Jimny would be DOA. By the talks, it seems like it will be priced as below:
NCR on road
Alpha AT =18L
Alpha MT = 17L
Zeta AT =15L
Zeta MT =14L

If this is how Jimmy is a priced, for a lot of people a used 4x4 Thar might be a better option at ~14.5.

Infact it's possible that post the price announcement, prices of used Thar may even go up as the demand increases.

OTR price difference between MT and AT will be at least 1.5 Lakh for NCR region (considering the RTO and Insurance rates here); if the same price difference of 1.3 Lakh for 4 speed Torque converter automatic transmission is considered (basis- earlier gen Brezza MT vs AT).

The price differential might increase if MSIL decide that the 4S TC AT when installed in Jimny becomes "Niche" and "Lifestyle" category AT and hence this AT price should have a "premium"!

They already have a DOA product in hand, FronX 1.0 Turbo MT and AT.

in a lighter sense, let us not give ideas to Nexa lol:

Even if we take Zeta MT to be OTR at 14L and Zeta AT at 15L which may seem Ok for what Jimny offers, the calculations for Alphas are out of range and may not be correct.

Considering above Zeta pricing, the alpha can only be like below realistically

Alpha MT - (add features 1.2L over Zeta MT) - 15.2L OTR
Alpha AT - same addition of 1L for AT over MT - 16.2L OTR

Anything beyond this, for sure, i will cancel the booking. BTW I have booked a ZETA AT Granite Grey and personally, i would want that max at 14L Chennai OTR. (asking too much ??)

for reference, the Petrol AT RWD Thar has an OTR of approx 16.5L, with a very powerful engine, rugged body, butch looks and few stuff. On the other hand, Jimny has 4x4 vs RWD, additional Airbags, smaller footprint etc., so, negate some additions and deletions between the two, above 16L +/- for Alpha AT should be an ideal pricing to disturb Thar and bring in more Clients to Jimny's side - Like myself :)

Suzuki has a small window to cash in on the novelty, the jimny fan following etc.... and to garner as much bookings/sales as possible with a tempting price.

Because rest assured Mahindra will launch the 4 door Thar and knock it out of the park with a killer price.

And people were furious with the above pricing prediction I made a month back rl:

I think we are all slowly warming up to the idea that Suzuki will milk us to the best of their abilities.
A price once quoted is seldom rolled back, even for duds or DOAs; in the interest of maintaining the manufacturer's credibility.
It is a sellers market, with me experiencing subpar interactions at Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra showrooms that I recently visited. I do not think others would be too different.
In fact, at Hyundai, instead of responding to my greeting, the sales person pointed to the white board with the waiting periods listed.
So let us wait for 7th June and take a call after that. I don't think Suzuki is looking at this discussion board to modulate their prices two weeks ahead of announcement. It seems that these speculations are doing nothing more than giving us panic attacks twice a day.

Suzuki did launch a stripped-down version of the Jimny in overseas markets called the Jimny Lite, which could always be a possibility with the 5 door Jimny too.

It comes with 15 inch steel wheels instead of alloys, in-dash CD player/radio rather than a touchscreen unit, halogen headlights and no foglamps.

Attachment 2454470

That is exactly what I want - steel wheels, no radio and least electronics - no screen, no navigation, no ABS. I have been driving with normal bulbs in headlight for over 50 years, so even halogens bulbs are an upgrade for me.

Simple 4x4 no frills.

It almost seems like Maruti doesn't want the JIMNY to sell that well in India and hence all the premium/niche marketing speak. This is probably because, unlike other MSIL products, JIMNY is a proper international model and as far as its known the 5DR is being made only here.

So, I have a feeling they might be targetting more export for which they can probably charge a lot more.

Unlike Mahindra who can't sell the THAR in most countries.

Selling for less money in India would mean selling the same vehicle for less profit to customers who are more difficult to please and many a times don't know the actual purpose of this type of vehicle.

In the end it's all about business.

An idea worth exploring.

There is a long waiting list abroad (at least in Autralia), so exporting at a slightly higher price than 3 door makes more profit.

May be the company will start with a high price and milk the buyers. Once demand in India stabilizes and export waiting period is reduced, they may come out with a bare bones 4x4. Mind you any extra feature or accesory adds to the OTR costs - GST, road tax and insurance (apprx 28%, 10% and 3% ~~ 45% cascading) so saving a lakh on extras will save us 1.45L !!

Jimny and Thar side by side

True - but people will wait for years to get their hands on it! Not sure if anyone is really falling for Mahindras delivery timelines anymore. So many folks on this forum have made two bookings with different manufacturers just cause the wait times are crazy!

Maruti seems to be doing a bit better in this case, but not so sure of the 5DR Jimny since it's also to be exported. If wait times being equal, IMO the Thar 5DR will probably eat into the Jimny bookings real quick. Just look at the pics above - only those who are truly in for what Jimny offers i.e. a nimble 4x4 with small footprint would keep their bookings.

But I have simply lost interest in new cars. I feel all the manufacturers are acting like a cartel creating scenarios for price hikes and ensuring they can sustain these hikes. So all said and done, a pre-owned car is atleast readily available.

"Summit Seeker" - An accessories package / elements that is going to be offered for Jimny by Nexa.

If all this does start retailing in the showrooms, then Maruti seems to be serious about positioning it as a Lifestyle car with more effort than they have ever put before on out of car accessories.

And some more off-roading shots from MotorBeam !
