Avinya is just a concept to show that they can make different body styles from one platform be it an SUV, MUV, Sedan, Hatchback or any other. That is to demonstrate versatility but such looking car may not be launched.

They have to do it anyway. Flex Fuel Engines (E-20) will become mandatory in next couple of years. The new 1.2 TGDI and 1.5 TGDI are E-20 compatible engines.

Re: Tata Motors @ Auto Expo 2023

We have already seen Curvv, Sierra and Avinya in the past few years. So, there is nothing new or fresh about it, especially considering real tech details are far and few.

What really is impressive is the iCNG versions of Punch and Altroz. How the hell did they package 2 cylinders in the luggage area Just Wow!! Also, the electric retrofitment of Harrier etc is an expected but welcome evolution.

Re: Tata Motors @ Auto Expo 2023

Brilliant from Tata Motors! Lots & lots of everything - ICE, Electric, Concept Vehicles, Near Production Vehicles & then production vehicles.

The only problem related to the concepts & something like Harrier.EV is - will they see the light of the day? If yes, when? End of 2024-25 is not something that will be of interest for upcoming buyers! A lot changes in 2 years.. really a lot!

Good that they finally upgraded the instrument cluster & touch screen !

Re: Tata Motors @ Auto Expo 2023

I’d say Tata motors came all guns blazing at their critics this Auto Expo - Atleast in the first glance .

1) 2 new engines with healthy power output compliant with the latest emission norms - for those who were questioning Tata’s ability to develop new engines.

2) Updating the Harrier/Safari with in demand features - ADAS, 360 degree camera, new infotainment clusters.

3) AWD in the Harrier.EV - for off-road fans

4) Increased power output in Altroz.

5) Not to forget bringing back the Sierra

Now , all Tata motors needs to do is get the execution right , improve the service and get all their cars Crash test rated - after this , I doubt Hyundai will be able to save its 2nd spot in the Indian car Market

Re: Tata Motors @ Auto Expo 2023

In the EV segment the pace at which TATA is moving it seems they will have a similar success to Honda had when they started capturing the market with the Activa, with Bajaj just not being bothered and in this case it’s Maruti.

The Sierra branding has some serious potential for TATA’s to capitalise on

Re: Tata Motors @ Auto Expo 2023

My view the Altroz is the biggest news of the Expo. I always wanted a hatchback with 6 airbags and if the Altroz really gets them, I will sell off my Crysta and buy it. Fed up with these big cars on our ever shrinking roads. A diesel automatic would have been even more beautiful.

Great looking hatch with 6 air bags, 5 star rating and a diesel automatic, what a combo!

Re: Tata Motors @ Auto Expo 2023

After years of seeing and drooling over various iterations of the Indica sport only for it to never go into production, I hope the Altroz Racer isn't another similar exercise by TML.

This made me recall XUV Aero Coupe from 2016. Unfortunately, no such high-slung notchback has been launched by Indian car makers till date.

When Tata Nano Max CNG was launched back in the day, even then they had placed two 4Kg cylinders below the front seats, so that the already limited boot space is not hampered.

Looks so good to have a CNG vehicle without a severely compromised boot space. I hope that other manufacturers take note, and such twin cylinder CNG kits become more common than the single bulky ones that we see nowadays.

Wishing Tata Motors all the best for their future line up. I am a proud Tata vehicle owner, having owned 1996 Tata Sumo, 2000 Tata Sumo SA, 2013 Tata Nano XT and 2011 Tata Aria Prestige 4x4. Feel happy to see the manufacturer take safety and practicality seriously and take in user feedback and improve on their existing line up of vehicles.

Re: Tata Motors @ Auto Expo 2023

Altroz Racer was a big surprise, more for feature additions than for the new engine.
Ventilated seats, big ICE, new digital console, sunroof gives it a new life.
Not to forget twin cylinder i-CNG setup which is again a brilliant move.
I always had this idea in my mind that what if Tata (or any other manufacturer)can add two CNG tanks, which they used in Nano vs one big tank.

I am quite sure that cosmetic changes shown in Harrier EV are the ones which will make it to ICE Harrier too (obviously without that grill)

Rest all other showcased products were great too.

I am not sure why Tata is exploring Hydrogen powered technology ONLY for commercial vehicles and not for passenger cars.

Using hydrogen as fuel for conventional ICE is a great idea too, hope it materializes too.

The Harrier.EV looks production ready and I think is due for a launch this year. The lifestyle EV segment is kicking off in India with the advent of Hyundai, Kia and chinese cos, pretty sure Tata won't want to be left out of the race.

Re: Tata Motors @ Auto Expo 2023

Tata surely have their strategy well defined. 4x4 in an EV will get them the edge over the M&M SUVs. If a Safari 4x4 EV is in development, that will drive a whole new customer segment to Tata. Even though there is no news on Safari EV yet, the concepts of Sierra and Harrier makes me think, Tata is the closest among our current manufacturers to launch a 4x4 7 seater EV.

Re: Tata Motors @ Auto Expo 2023

Wow, Tata catching everyone's eyes in the Auto Expo - The Sierra looks hot and hope the production version, whenever it launches, is close to the version shown here, The Altroz racer with the new powerful engines and not just a red sticker job (looking at you i20 N-Line) for the enthusiasts and the new larger display which is much more smoother than most of the cars out there. Way to go Tata!

Re: Tata Motors @ Auto Expo 2023

Trust Tata to put on a great show at the Auto Expo, unlike Maruti.

Harrier EV- Harrier got an AWD at last, though in EV form. But the design... If this is a precursor to he Harrier facelift, then . Can't find a single facelift item which improves over the old design. Or maybe they have outdone themselves with the original one's design and is unable to improve on it.

Sierra- Showstopper!!! And one can be sure that the name is 75% of the aura. Product wise it is just another run of the mill crossover/SUV, but blacken the C pillar and make the B pillar body coloured. And slap the Sierra badge to it. Desirability quotient rises. Love how they designed the steering wheel as a modern take/ homage to the old school TATA four spoke steering wheel and also the instrument cluster binanacle reminds of old school TATAs. Add to that return of the comfortable individual arm rests!!!

Curvv- Am sure the coupe SUV will look awesome on the road in any production form they bring it. Add to that the juicy the 1.5l GDI turbo!

Avinya- Hope it doesn't go high riding in production form. Looking forward to drive a low slung Tata considering their recent handling/ride prowess.

Altroz Racer- In the history of tasteful Tata hot/warm/sports hatchback concepts, this is easily the worst modified one. Wonder who even signed it off for display.

BUT

Can pardon it as it will be the one that had the most probability of being launched in the first place! Add to that 6 airbags, sunroof, new infotainment and instrument cluster. New GDI turbo engine and at last 6 speed gearbox!!! Poor Altroz diesel. Now only if there is a 0.0001% chance of Tata giving India a real hot hatchback by plonking the 1.5l in the Altroz. At least a limited series.

New infotainment- About time. The current one is slightly outdated, but the problem was the comically small estate area allowed to Android Auto. But please TATA. Leave some physical knobs and buttons. Please. Even the conep cars show even the HVAC controls being touch. Nope. Most other mass manufacturers are repenting and returning to physical ontrols. We want a practical daily use car, not to ape Teslas.

ADAS- No mention of adaptive cruise control, the only really useful feature today IMO. Guess the lane assist has been omitted since it is still HPS.

Engines- Phew at last!!! Pleasantly surprised that the 1.5l puts out 170bhp. Thought it would be 150 odd bhp. Now only if Tata concentrated on that achilles heel of theirs. Low speed initial performance- Fuel delivery mapping, clutch modulation and throttle response.
