BMW 5-Series long wheelbase India launch in 2024

BMW 5 Series long wheelbase to arrive in India in 2024.

BMW to bring the stretched sedan to take on the segment-leading long wheelbase E-Class.

The new 5 Series, known as the G60, will be the last sedan BMW will build on its CLAR platform. The car we will get in India will be the right-hand drive, long-wheelbase version based on the Chinese car. Known as the G68, (the new 5 is the G60), it is expected to get a 130mm to 135mm longer wheelbase, a longer roof and longer rear doors. The rear doors are likely to offer better ingress and egress when compared to the stretched Mercedes E-Class. Unlike the stretched E, which uses a relatively short rear door (without a quarter glass), the long-wheelbase 5 Series has a door that stretches all the way back to the ‘C’ pillar.

Finally would have a competitive product in the segment (leaving aside the enthusiasts) to take on the E class LWB. Personally would have gone with 5 over E but as the first luxury car in the house, family didn't find it special or an upgrade over our superb. As our market size grows, we will get more of these customized models catering to the local market demands. Guess Mercedes will respond by introducing the C class LWB version to take on the successful 3 GL. Audi meanwhile

Just hope that it gets the 40i treatment at least.
5 series has seriously been lacking a 6 cylinder petrol treatment.

Wish they would bring in the 50D engine too. Though now the time for diesels seems to be up so maybe a 40i?

Seriously! Considering that the B58 inline 6 is assembled by Force Motors in India itself and already being installed in the M340i, X5 etc., I would have felt it was a no-brainer to roll out a 540i.

Totally. 540i would be the perfect self-driven luxury car. It is an anomaly that Mercedes has the E53 even if it is as a CBU while for a brand like BMW focused on "driving pleasure" you have to stretch all the way to the M5 if you want a more powerful petrol than the base 2l one. Hopefully for the next generation, they will have multiple options including the LWB for the larger pure luxury market and the 540i for the driving enthusiasts.

Agree, screw CAFE and utilize Force Motors more. Phase the IL6 & V8 out of the EU (and move to PHEV/EV) but bring the 540i M Sport & the X3 M40i to India.

What a combo!

I'm not sure how usable this long wheelbase version is going to be with our road conditions. We had a 2021 G30 520d and it used to scrape almost every speed breaker in and around Mumbai. I presume the LWB will make the issue worse.

So true ! a 540i and a X3 M40i would be the perfect companions to the M340i - really fast but still usable as daily drivers in India, unlike their M peers.

Hands down. BMW used to offer the F10 in 535i guise in 2010-12, that was a hoot to drive. The B58 in the 5 would be ideal & would see a lot of takers if priced at part or below the 530d. There is not a single 6 cylinder petrol sedan in the market under 1cr, the M340i is tad bit small & lacks the glam of the 5 in terms of trims & other bits. Hope BMW India execs are following this thread!

re: BMW 5-Series long wheelbase India launch in 2024

I will be surprised if BMW retains the 6 cylinder diesel after April. 6 cylinder engines will be left for use in some specific models where there’s no alternate like an X5. My best guess will be a 4 cylinder diesel and petrol engine only.

Very different days ahead, at least in near future.

In a recent interview of Vikram Pawah by Autocar India, he was asked if the regular 3 will return. He said that there is M340i for the enthusiasts and the Gran Limousine for people looking for luxury. So it seems that the 6 cylinder will stay on.

Right, 6 cylinders will not be taken off entirely but reserved for certain models as I mentioned before and Yes, M340 is going to stay.

Re: BMW 5-Series long wheelbase India launch in 2024

Good news for chauffeur-driven owners; the 5-Series is cramped for space at the back, but it does have a distinctly more supportive seat than the E-Class.

I sure hope that the regular wheelbase variant is retained for us enthusiasts & self-driven owners. Self-drive owners don't want to be piloting a limousine all the time.
