Re: List all cars that are E20 and E20+ petrol compliant

So I happened to visit a HP bunk couple of days back near Wakad on Pune-Mbai highway. I saw a dispenser with a big E20 petrol sticker on it. When asked, the attendant said they have started E20 blended petrol on 6th Feb'23. As of now, at least the choice is given to the customer. However, on close inspection, the petrol rate was same

You're right on this I think, spoke to IOCL COCO in New Delhi.

He said, XP95 is 12% ethanol and regular petrol is 10%.

I have been filling up my Rapid TSI from here; since the manual recommends 95 RON.

BS6 phase 2 engines updates

Though there is hardly any time left, not all existing car manufacturers are revealing their plans for the new BS6 phase 2 engines to be compulsorily introduced after 1st April 2023. All companies would have frozen specifications long ago as the new engines should start getting installed around 10th March for cars scheduled for delivery in April 23.

Specifically, I am looking for information on Hector petrol engines. New compliant engine should be better in most aspects as the old engine is due for upgrade anyway. Hope someone can shed light on this issue.

Re: List all cars that are E20 and E20+ petrol compliant

E20 Petrol is now available in Navi Mumbai.

Along side E10 Petrol.

Price is same for both.

Pump owner has put notice to verify suitability before filling E20 Petrol.

Is it applicable for all India 2.0 cars produced and on the road now or only from now on? I saw in another thread that VW/Skoda mentioned E20 testing is successful for 2023 plan/investment. So the question.

I think we need E10 or E20 stickers to be pasted in the fuel cap. Hope Team BHP can come up with one to order

If prices are same for E10 and E20, why should anyone choose less efficient fuel?

Re: List all cars that are E20 and E20+ petrol compliant

So what does E20 petrol mean for older cars? I see E10 petrol bunks here already. A few rare ones are non-ethanol blend. I have an old Maruti 800 which isn't high on efficiency when filled with E10 Petrol. Will this be the case for the current cars as the blend percentage increases? What about cars for 10 years ago? Like an i10 or a Honda Brio?

Re: List all cars that are E20 and E20+ petrol compliant

For E5 certified cars like my old wagon r bs3 version, drop in fuel efficiency upto 12-15%, and most of rubber or plastic parts in contact with fuel will undergo enhanced corrosion.
For E10 certified cars upto current generation, drop in fuel efficiency upto 8%, possibly corrosion may not be so severe like in E5 certified cars. Warranty is anyway invalid for fuels beyond E10, even for cars bought today unless manual exclusively says E20 fuel is allowed. What is surprising is that OEMs(atleast most of them)are super quiet on this topic. Govt. Should atleast clarify on the dispensing of fuel whether both fuels will be sold or only one fuel type would be sold.

We can see more and more such conversion kits in the market soon -

Re: List all cars that are E20 and E20+ petrol compliant

If XP95 is made E20, I guess none of the vehicles sold till now whose recommended RON is RON95 will be able to use this. Or will there be a E10 XP95 and an E20 XP95? Highly unlikely.

I heard XP100 is still E0. But no source to back it up.

Exactly what I was wondering about. The HP bunk where I saw E20 dispenser had same petrol price as E10. What is the use of blending more ethanol if you cannot pass on the benefits of price to the end customer. Given E20 had a separate dispenser, I have hopes that both E10 and E20 would continue.

For some time, I am filling up XP95 but now the news about it being E20 scares me. Skoda recommends E10 and RON 95 but now it would be mutually exclusive if XP95 already has E20

Correct, anyone with an iota of knowledge will not buy E20 over E10 if they are priced the same. Which means that it is only a matter of time before they start charging extra on E10 as if it is some sort of premium fuel.

And it’s not just about efficiency. Engines that are not E20 certified, which is almost all petrol cars on road today, will have all kind of maintenance issues in the long run if they are made on run on E20.

Re: List all cars that are E20 and E20+ petrol compliant

Ethanol blending doesn't sound good to the average consumer. Not only are the cost benefits of blending not passed over to consumers, but also the consumer's petrol combustion vehicles shall now have more issues with continued usage.

I mentioned above, COCO manager in Delhi told me, XP95 is already 12% ethanol.

Makes some sense as octane number rises with ethanol mixing.

Wiki
Ethanol contains approximately 34% less energy per unit volume than gasoline, and therefore in theory, burning pure ethanol in a vehicle reduces range per unit measure by 34%, given the same fuel economy, compared to burning pure gasoline. However, since ethanol has a higher octane rating, the engine can be made more efficient by raising its compression ratio
