No doubt there is a chance, but that chance will depend on what Hyundai/Kia want to do in terms of quality of materials used in the structure. It has been proven time and again that even for identical models sold in India and elsewhere, the group uses substandard grade of steel in the Indian market variant versus the international variant. For example, substituting high strength steel in places where the international model uses ultra-high strength steel etc. Also omitting some structural stabilization elements that the international variants have, when it comes to the Indian market variant.

It is time Hyundai/Kia did an about-face and recognise that they need to provide global standard of safety in India, not just global standard of sunroofs, gizmos and bling features. They should reposition the models - perhaps call them Creta Neo and Seltos Neo and have them built to their own international quality and safety standards. Tey should then pro-actively offer the models to NCAP for testing and demonstrate that the cars can score 5 stars. Make a clean break with their murky past on safety. The rebranding is important to send a strong signal that Hyundai/Kia have reformed when it comes to safety and are going to play the role 9f a responsible market #2 leader, when it comes to safety - unlike the irresponsible market #1 (Maruti) who still try to blame the system and NCAP when their cars score 1 star.

When Hyundai/Kia do this, then I am ready to be an advocate for these cars in my friend circle, because I know these companies can build and sell safe cars for India, just that they have so far chosen not to - simply to make better margins. But they cannot continue to do so, as safety leaders like Tata and Mahindra are entering the midsize SUV space and Toyota is coming in with the Hyryder which will most likely score at least 4 stars on safety - versus the Creta/Seltos which barely managed 3 stars and are merely only high two-star-scorers in my mind.

Looks like they are set to use only high strength steel, as per my birdie from the plant!

Any launch timelines? The Creta-Seltos duo are in my shortlist.

+1

I have booked HTX petrol and waiting for the update to launch.

In terms of safety, between Kia and Hyundai, I am expecting Kia to improve on safety ratings. This is a hope based on Kia introducing 4 and later 6 air bags as standard.

Maybe it's just my biased mind but I believe Hyundai are definitely gonna improve their safety standards as Tata is closing the gap between them very quickly. Tata is already the winner if we count EVs.

Most likely we will see some action in the later part of the next year.

Seltos - Q3'23
Creta - Q1'24

They might showcase the new model at Auto Expo 2023, and deliveries to start from July 2023.

Autocar now seems to have got the same deets from their 'sources' on the new 1.5 turbo. However, they seem to say it's the same engine found in the i30, albeit without the 48V mild hybrid system. https://www.autocarindia.com/car-new...-engine-426735

This is going to be a formidable update and those going in for these cars need to be forewarned to save them from obsolescence some 6 months down the line after their purchase. Hope Hyundai/Kia price it sensibly.

I got a call from the dealer where I have my Kia Seltos HTK+ booking. He is stating that Kia has sent them in writing that new variant is not coming before Sept 2023. This seems aligned with Q3,2023 timelines.

Interesting to know that KIA dealer confirmed about it. I have been checking with them regularly and they're simply not answering about it. Nor they're confident about facelift showing up in the auto EXPO.

I was in Hyundai SVC today, according to SM, Creta face lift is expected around March '23.
He also echoed that a new engine is likely.

It could be pressure tactic to take the delivery immediately also.Sept 2023 is too late for me atleast.

With the information I got this is highly unlikely , since the FL launch is near to festivity most likely on the anniversary of seltos in India.

Showcasing a fresh model in Jan'23 will eat away a chunk of sales who would delay their purchases .
But at the same time there might be some feature rejig to justify the high price increase for RDE.

Unlike Kia where dealers are updated that seltos FL is next year, Hyundai dealerships are so misinformed on their product. Creta FL isn't before 2024, only feature & safety adjustment is there before RDE .

Re: Rumour: Hyundai & Kia SUVs could get 1.5L turbo-petrol engine

Have been visiting both Kia and Hyundai dealers as I am in the market for an SUV. Kia dealers have consistently said the facelift isn't expected anytime soon. Hyundai dealers on the other hand have been giving mixed signals with some saying the facelift could arrive as soon as Feb 23' while others have said they aren't even expecting it in 2023.
