Re: Single definition of SUVs across India = Lower Taxes?

I am really unable to understand the intention of the government here.

We are a country of jugads, as already proven by the introduction of sub-4m sedans and sub-4m SUVs.

It will not be hard for manufacturers to circumvent the 170mm ground clearance rule.
For example, they can just add a removable attachment to the exhaust and call it an exhaust guard.

What we really need is a tax system based on the efficiency or safety ratings of the vehicle.

Re: Single definition of SUVs across India = Lower Taxes?

A section of the media is reporting that the prices of some of the CSUVs will drop. These include Nexon, Brezza, XUV3OO, Venue, etc. These sub-4m CSUVs will not meet one of the four criteria and hence the optimism for the price drop.

If all the four criteria's are indeed required to be charged a higher GST then these CSUVs will see a price reduction.

It is in the interest of SIAM to keep this confusion going about price drop so that the sales of these models do not get impacted at the year-end. If the price is going to drop by 75K then who will buy it now?

Link here and here.

Why do we still follow the cubic-capacity-based slabs for everything? Why can't it be based on engine power and vehicle weight? There are 1-liter and 1.2-liter turbocharged vehicles that produce more power than a 1600cc NA engine nowadays.
No, a sedan will always miss the 1st criteria: Popularly known as a SUV.

Sure. I was just poking fun at the most stupidest definition of SUVs I've ever seen.

I'm no SUV admirer at all. I love to drive low-slung cars. No plans to become an SUV-shaped car's owner for satisfying the inner need of being subtly pretentious. No plans to buy a true SUV as well.

Mods : Pls consider as this post is relevant to this thread too.

Cross-posting from the Mahindra Thar Review thread.

Now that's something. If it holds true, we can expect some respite from the recent price hikes.

Don't know whether if this would be passed to the end consumer at all.

Re: Single definition of SUVs across India = Lower Taxes?

Just Curious. What is the Current Tax rate imposed for SUV now and what is the revision suggested by the council?

For Ex : Fortuner, Kodiaq, Tiguan are all beyond 4M, 170mm+ GC and >1500CC

Are the taxes for these vehicles supposed to increase further?

I wonder if the lobby was for reducing the tax on hybrids or increase the tax on non hybrids

They seriously need to set such criteria’s for hybrids and ones with a significant battery pack should be taxed at half while fake hybrids with start stop function should remain at current levels.

Let’s hope the budget in Feb resolves this. I truly believe with would pave a strong patch for EV adoption.

Looks like this might move forward and we might gain from 6% reduction in cess on crossovers!

It’s not reduction, rather increasing cess from 17% to 22%. Currently being discussed in below thread.
