New 2025 MG ZS caught on camera in Australia – and it’s a hybrid.

For the first time the ZS is expected to be available with hybrid power, to go head-to-head with top-selling hybrids from Toyota – as well as a growing field of rivals from Hyundai, Kia, GWM Haval, Nissan and Honda.

It appears to be a larger vehicle than before – today's model is about 4.3m long, compared to the 4.4m-long Toyota Corolla Cross and Nissan Qashqai – with styling inspired by the latest MG 3 city hatch and MG 5 sedan.

It could use a version of the new MG 3's hybrid system, which combines a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor, small battery pack and three-speed automatic transmission for a combined output of 143kW.

A new ZS EV electric model is likely to follow the hybrid – and presumably a regular petrol-only model – that reports claim could use technology from the MG 4 electric hatch on sale in Australia.

The leak of patents from the intellectual property registry in China has exposed the future plans of the MG ZS and, as you can see, it will significantly change its external appearance. The SAIC team is preparing a real revolution for a new ZS that will follow the sportier line released on board its younger brother.

The new MG ZS will also have a more technological and elaborate interior, although the most interesting thing will be in the mechanicals, as it will continue to bet on its zero-emission version of the MG ZS EV but will also include the 194 hp HEV self-charging hybrid of the new MG3. The arrival of the new MG ZS will take place in 2025, as it will first debut in China and should not take long to do so. End of the year is perfectly feasible to reach Europe in spring.

MG ZS 2.0: renderings and anticipated changes

The ZS’s styling ethos mirrors that of the new MG 3 hatch. It features a completely reimagined front fascia with a redesigned grille and a sportier bumper. The LED headlamps are sleeker, while the bonnet now appears longer, giving the crossover a more robust and aggressive stance.

Although MG Motors has not released specific powertrain details for the new ZS, the crossover will offer various options to cater to different markets and preferences. These include petrol, electric, and hybrid variants.

The hybrid is expected to use a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder petrol engine with 101 hp (75kW) of power and 128Nm of torque, mated with a 100kW/250Nm electric motor for a total system output of 192 hp (143kW).

A global debut of the all-new MG ZS is anticipated later this year.

MG ZS facelift breaks cover with hybrid engine.

The MG ZS SUV ‘SE’ starts from £21,995, with the ‘Trophy’ kicking off from £24,495. Both get a 193bhp output courtesy of a 1.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor duo.

At launch, the new ZS is only available with a sole Hybrid+ powertrain – the same setup found in the award-winning MG3. It uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor, which deliver a combined power output of 193bhp. As much as 134bhp of that comes from the e-motor, plus 250Nm of torque. 0-62mph takes 8.7 seconds, according to MG.

A 1.83kWh battery allows for short periods of pure-electric driving, which in turn helps the ZS Hybrid+ achieve up to 55.4mpg and emit 115g/km of CO2. With such a small battery, there’s no need to plug-in, instead it’s charged from regenerative braking or the engine itself.

The new MG ZS has 443-litre boot, which is five litres less than the old model but still more than what the Nissan Juke and Peugeot 2008 offers. Plus, folding down the rear seats opens up 1,457 litres – 82 litres more than its predecessor could accommodate.

It's a good looking car that seems very competent, however I doubt that it is suitable for our market. It's proportions are very decidedly crossover and that's a genre that simply doesn't work over here. I'm quite certain that MG won't be able to exceed the current sales of Astor.

Design gets a thumbs-up from my side .

It gives me BMW- vibes. The front, rear- everything looks awesome. The alloys look cool, too. But there only one issue I find in the design- and in the previous one too- why are those ORVM blinkers so bulbous? Nowadays, they've been made sleeker and sleeker.

Nonetheless, a very competent car, might do well in our market. I say 'might' because Indians will prefer a more boxy shape ( read SUV shape ), which I see, this facelift won't change.

Let's see how this car fares in the Indian market.

It's a good looking car no doubt, but this car doesnt have that 'SUV' stance which Indian customers love. I hope it doesn't meet the same fate as Astor.

The Chinese manufacturer is launching the second generation of its urban SUV. Equipped with a hybrid engine and sold from €22,990, the new MG ZS Hybrid+ is positioned as the cheapest hybrid SUV on the market.

The Chinese model gains a little thickness and a few centimeters in the process. A good dozen all the same (4.43 meters). Enough to compete with compact SUVs such as the Renault Symbioz, the Skoda Karoq or the Nissan Qashqai. The difference is that the MG ZS is displayed at much more attractive prices!

Its philosophy is actually modelled on that of the Dacia Duster: to offer a compact SUV at the price of an urban SUV (Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur, etc.) or a used car. The Chinese company is therefore eyeing both segments, in order to capture as many customers as possible.
The interior innovates. The layout is quite classic but the design is much more modern. There are two screens, 7" (entry-level) and 12.3" (depending on trim), a two-level dashboard integrating air vents and a rather well thought out center console, integrating an induction charger, a small storage and charging points. We regret the presence of the imposing "aviation" gear lever. A more discreet electric control would have had a better effect (but it comes at a cost)

Based on the same platform as the MG3 city car, the ZS also uses the self-charging hybrid powertrain. It is a 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder petrol engine with 102 horsepower mated to a 136-horsepower electric motor, providing a total maximum power of 197 horsepower. It is powered by a 1.83 kWh battery, allowing it to drive several sequences in 100% electric. The whole thing is managed by a 3-speed automatic gearbox. A 3-level regeneration is also present.

Above all, hybridization makes it possible to drastically reduce CO2 emissions, with an average of 113 g/km homologated (WLTP). This means that the new MG ZS Hybrid+ escapes the ecological penalty in 2024 in France.

2025 MG ZS Hybrid+ SUV given four-star safety rating in ANCAP tests.

Australia's new-car safety authority has awarded the all-new MG ZS small SUV four out of five stars for its overall safety.





According to ANCAP, vehicles are required to receive a score of 80 per cent – with the ZS reaching 75 per cent – to achieve five stars.

The independent government-funded program specifically called out the SUV's lack of a centre airbag, which can help the two front occupants from colliding with each other in the event of a side impact.

However, the ZS missed out on scoring up to four points for Adult Occupant Protection with the Far Side Impact test, due to the test not being conducted by ANCAP's sister organisation, Euro NCAP.

The ZS also scored poorly for its AEB Backover test, due to the system not reacting to vulnerable road users when in reverse.
