Toyota has recalled select units of the Yaris and Etios over a possible issue with the seatbelt assembly.



According to the company, seatbelt assemblies sold between August 18 and September 27, 2022 have been found to be faulty. In total, 47 units of the Yaris and Etios are affected by this issue.

The carmaker has also stated that there have been no reported failures of the faulty component yet. That being said, it has decided to replace the said part free of charge as it could jeopardize the safety of the occupants.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified about the recall. Customers are requested to get their vehicles inspected at their nearest Toyota authorised dealer and get the part replaced if necessary.

Is the year mentioned wrong? The official website also mentions 2022. Yet, I believe both of these models were phased out before 2022. The Etios in 2019 and Yaris in 2021.

"Build the brand Value, from discontinued models, by proactively recalling a selected Few".

My Reasons:
Unless the car is in production, It is not easy for the manufacturer to identify the faulty parts, their exact lots and the dates they were supplied. Because, they cannot compare & evaluate the quality of the parts delivered by the supplier 3 years ago.

The whole Etios/Yaris team would have moved onto another product. I don't think they would be evaluating the parts quality now, and that too with nothing.

Let's appreciate & respect a manufacturer still taking care of its discontinued models and the sheer commitment to after-sales service. Recalls cost a lot of money, effort and in some cases, the reputation (although most people see them positively now).

This is a manufacturer whose entry-level sedan - the Etios - had scored 4 stars in the GNCAP.
