So there's just 1 powertrain, and not 3 like the title claims.

1 powertrain, 2 gearbox, and 2 fuel options.

Well proportioned for the constrained dimensions. The boxy, front three-quarter view in this particular green shade gives me vibes of the Defender. Harmless inspiration perhaps!

Re: Hyundai Exter Compact SUV bookings open

None of the promo images released so far have anything in them that could lend some SCALE, like a person standing next to it or sitting inside it.

I have seen the leaked photos where its standing next to other cars in Korea. But in those too, its difficult to gauge the size due to the differences in perspective.

I feel this is going to be much smaller than people think it is. Definitely not as small as the Casper, but no where near as big as the Venue. My guess is a little more in width and a little less in length compared to the Grand i10 Nios. There needs be a clear size differentiator between this and the Venue. And I feel Hyundai would rather it cannibalize the sales of the i10 than the Venue. SUVs almost always have more margins than sedans/hatchbacks. In the end, its all about the money after all.

I agree. For reference here are the dimensions of Venue, and Punch against which it is expected to compete:

Venue:
3,995 mm L x 1,770 mm W x 1,617 mm H

Punch:
3,827 mm L x 1,742 mm W x 1,615 mm H

Re: Hyundai Exter Compact SUV bookings open

Well, visited the showroom in Delhi to meet the Sales executive and get some information on the Exter as I'm in market to replace my 13-year-old Santro Xing.

There was no news / update on the date of launch and prices. The booking can be done by paying 11000 which is fully refundable in case you cancel the booking.

I'm planning to get a new car in the month of September or October this year. The Exter will be available by then and is a contender along with Punch and Altroz.

Will make booking in couple of days and wait for the launch to see the car in flesh and test drive it and then decide to keep or cancel the booking.

The digital format of the brochure is freely available, and this is what I received on WhatsApp from a local Hyundai dealership earlier today-

This is such a mature design. Bloody good looking and proportionate.

Upsize this and replace the hideous Creta please.

I've been using it since August 2019 on the G i10 Nios. Definitely reliable and much better than the Maruti ones (can't comment on the reliability of Maruti). I had an Ignis prior to the Nios. Sold the ignis in 2 years. Hated the unit due to the head nod effect and not being effective enough with the 1.2

On the other hand, shifts are seamless from 2nd onwards. It can be stubborn at times (much less compared to the ignis) by staying in a higher gear when trying to perform an over take maneuver. But I just slot it into manual and go ahead.

Did my 20k service. SA said its a sealed unit so nothing much to do by way of service. Maybe someone can explain this as I'm not too well versed with the internal workings.

All in all, a beautiful AMT compared to the one in my Ignis

I've been driving the Santro AMT for close to 4 years now and have to say its very reliable and smooth. The head-nod effect is very less and for city driving you won't even notice the gear shifts. There is an optional Manual mode but the gearbox takes a second or two to shift to the manual commands.

One thing to note here is that the AMT gearbox is tied to the battery. If the battery is low, even the car might crank and engine would start but the AMT would fail to move from N to D. So you've to ensure the battery is at a safe level with the Hyundai AMTs.

Re: Hyundai Exter Compact SUV bookings open

I had booked Exter at VD Hyundai New Delhi by paying 11000/- booking amount on 10th of May. Although I have received the booking document, I have not yet been given the payment receipt. Every time I follow up, I get the reply that the Exter is not yet updated on their system and hence the payment receipt cannot be issued.

Anybody else facing this?

Looks like Hyundai is in a hurry to snatch Tata Punch volumes

6 airbags standard is a clear indication

Pricing will be interesting

This is a Toruk Makto situation with Hyundai. Punch will definitely sweat this time
