re: Maruti Invicto | Re-badged Innova Hycross

Can't believe we are seeing insecurity related to machines and products now.

People worrying about resale value due to brand engineering! Resale value of Toyota Badge would be higher if the product is good. Otherwise the even that could not save the resale value of Etios and Liva because of spartan looking product.

re: Maruti Invicto | Re-badged Innova Hycross

If I've to decide between this and HyCross, my preference would be this one from Maruti. The most important factor being service related. I've been visiting the MASS since last more than 15 years and I practically know almost every one.

Whether I'll buy this or not, well that depends on the variants that'll come. I would definitely want Maruti to come with a top end variant or atleast a VX(O) without the Hybrid system. Then I may consider it seriously.

Key point to note will be that the Maruti Suzuki version of the HyCross will be more expensive than the Toyota HyCross. As seen with the HyRyder vs Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid variants.

Also the technology in the HyCross is from Toyota (both engines included), unless Maruti Suzuki trains its ASC technicians properly there is no point in getting the Maruti HyCross, again seen with the Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid which had an engine failure

And I don't think Maruti Suzuki will be the one deciding which variant they get, Toyota will be the one deciding that. There is a high chance that Maruti Suzuki doesn't get the top-spec ZX and ZX(O) at all to keep the car's price in their stable on the lower side.

Here it is, confirmation of the MUV from Maruti Suzuki, sourced from Toyota:

re: Maruti Invicto | Re-badged Innova Hycross

Maruti will never be able to price this below Toyota since they will always have a royalty component here isn't it ?

In Grand Vitara/Hyryder, Suzuki had the platform along with their K15 engine. So Maruti could launch it a competitive price point. However, they do not have any engine to power this Innova so they will be completely relying on Toyota to supply them the entire car.

Already I am reading people are not happy just with Toyota badge as the fit/finish quality of Hycross leaves lot to be desired, I wonder how will Maruti pull this off with Suzuki badge and at higher price point.

re: Maruti Invicto | Re-badged Innova Hycross

I have read a lot of comments about price difference of Toyota and Suzuki version of Hyryder, but as per latest prices (Ex show room Delhi), the price difference of Hyryder top version and Grand version top version is only Rs 5000. Go figure!!

While casually searching for design patents with the government (yes, I am not weird, just a great way to find leaks), I came across some design patents which might belong to the upcoming Suzuki Engage.

The headlight & grille bear a close resemblance to the Hycross but with different internal detailing.

I'll let you analyse them yourself.

re: Maruti Invicto | Re-badged Innova Hycross

I wonder what value proposition can Maruti bring by rebadging already expensive Innvoa hycross ? It still sells for its brand value. Maruti cannot price it any lower because of royalties involved(we have seen with strong hybrid grand Vitara) So the only possible thing Suzuki can do here is to offer their MPV with options such as CNG as it might help differentiate the product and sell to fleet operators.

re: Maruti Invicto | Re-badged Innova Hycross

While Toyota gets cheap vehicles to sell in Africa, I think Suzuki is trying to raise its brand image and "premium quotient" in India by associating itself with Toyota.

When you think about it, It's a very low effort low risk strategy to make people think that Suzuki and Toyota are the same and that Toyota considers them in a high regard and/or trusts trust them with their models and in that way Suzuki can shed, slowly but surely, its Cheap Car image.

Maruti's Innova Hycross based MPV will go on sale by late July this year.

Quote:
- Maruti MPV to only get subtle difference over Toyota counterpart

- New MPV will be Maruti's most expensive model

- The new MPV may not be a volume product

When I think of a purchase decision involving Toyota, one of the strong considerations is that it will be an easy to own, reliable and bullet proof, 10 - 15 year product. Will Maruti be able to also deliver on the same level of quality and reliability that comes with the Toyota (not being cynical but genuine open question). Or conversely will Toyota not be able to deliver the same attributes on its platform shared products that are sold with a T badge.

For the sake of customers, the best case outcome of course is that we get more products from both stables that represent the positive attributes of Toyota and of course that there is no dilution in the traditional strengths that drew customers to Toyota.

It is the same damn car! Just the badging will be different, maybe the front grille as well. Think of it as Brezza vs Toyota Urban Cruiser or Grand Vitara vs Hyryder or Baleno vs Glanza. There will be zero difference in performance, efficiency, reliability etc.

Apologies didn't mean to offend you with the question and I've genuinely not kept abreast of how / where they're assembling the badge shared cars. Was not sure of certain specifics like assembly and manufacturing - so made at a single plant as well then I take it.

Which then makes me wonder - IF (big if) the assembly line/s are same and there is no enhanced capacity, how much merit is there in launching a re-branded product where the existing customer demand at Toyota is already running a 12 - 24 month wait period.
