re: Maruti Invicto | Re-badged Innova Hycross

Maruti Suzuki to positions its version of the Toyota Hycross as a SUV.

- Likely to arrive by this festive season
- Maruti Suzuki hybrid 7-seat SUV is expected to feature a completely revamped exterior design of the Hycross.
-Likely to be offered with optional captain seats in the mid row like the Hycross
-Numbers will be dependent on Toyota's capacity, but will have the mutually agreed quantity irrespective of the Hycross's demand
- Annual volumes of up to 10,000 units would not be less for a top-of-the-line premium vehicle even if it is being sold by Maruti.

New Maruti MPV/SUV global debut – July

Just like the other cross-badged products from the alliance, we expect Maruti's version of the Innova Hycross to have a completely unique design over its Toyota counterpart. Expect changes on the inside too, in terms of interior trims and upholstery. Based on the TNGA-C architecture, the Maruti MPV will also use the naturally aspirated petrol and petrol-hybrid powertrains from the Hycross. It's expected to see its global unveiling sometime in July this year.

Maruti should launch a top end variant with the Petrol engine too unlike Toyota which has top end only with Hybrid engine. All features of the top end with the 2 liter gasoline engine, it may find many takers.

re: Maruti Invicto | Re-badged Innova Hycross

I'm racking my brain trying to figure out why anyone would choose a Maruti branded Innova over the Toyota badge!

Maruti is still somewhat viewed as a cheap car brand. And while they're making strides moving up-market with the Grand Vitara, I think the Innova price bracket may be too high for potential Maruti customers to swallow.

This is a good idea. At least it gives the Maruti variant some differentiator.

New Maruti MPV will come with two powertrain options
Will be Maruti’s most expensive product

The new Maruti MPV will sit on the Toyota TNGA-C architecture; the naturally aspirated petrol and strong hybrid petrol engines that will be seen on the Innova Hycross will also power the Maruti MPV.

Wow! This makes my decision to cancel the Hycross booking based on its driver experience even better!

Hope they can change the gear position and the dash area. Will be much more graceful compared to the very busy area that Toyota has now.

I would.
  • Nexa( Lower Parel) Pre-sales have been better and pro-active'r than Toyota( Wasan).
  • Nexa Service in Bhoiwada is closer than Wasan Service in Govandi.
  • Delivery timelines for my GV booking ( 4-6 weeks) are much lesser than Toyota's Indefinite timeline.
  • Perceptions don't matter as I will be sitting in the same vehicle technically.

re: Maruti Invicto | Re-badged Innova Hycross

This is a terrible mistake.
Toyota is diluting Innova Brand, specially at a time when it's not able to fulfil the high demand Hycross by it's*core*and loyal customers.

As per reports, Prices of Maruti Innova HyCross could be about Rs 50k to Rs 1 lakh more than the Toyota version
which means Hycross will become a lower brand similar to Hyryder, Urban Cruiser and Glanza.
very sad

Maruti is known to offer better interiors and back design than Toyota on all the above cars, thus making it a better value proposition.
Customers would not hesitate to buy , knowing very well that the car is manufactured by Toyota.
Besides, they get the wider network of Maruti Nexa for the after-sales service, accessories and part cost are known to be lower at Maruti.

Not sure, where this Volume game is taking Toyota Bharat - upwards or downwards.

Hope they won't allow Maruti to sell Hilux and*Fortuner*also someday !

Toyota already allows Suzuki to sell RAV4 and Corolla, Innova isn't a big deal actually

Overall Toyota is playing a big game, the actual volume they sell might go down, but the overall volume will still be high. And as you mentioned Suzuki has a bigger footprint in India than Toyota does, so in a way this will allow them to sell more volume without expanding their dealer network themselves.

Well there goes the resale for my hycross.

Can't wait to buy the Maruti Landcruiser in 3 years tho. Maybe they can fix the ugly rear to look less like a dodge minivan.

Maruti Suzuki trademarks 'Engage' – Is it the rebadged Innova Hycross?

Sorry, but how or why would this happen?

Pretty sure Maruti will give this a new name, and new front and rear, and make sure there are enough differences to distinguish them apart at the first glance, like they did with Hyryder-GrandVitara.

Crazy how people think they will just remove Toyota logo, add Maruti logo, name it Maruti innova, and call it a day.

How is this a dilution of the Innova and why shouldn't Toyota "allow" them?

Maruti gave its core products like Baleno, Brezza, Ciaz, Ertiga, Celerio and even developed 90% of the Hyryder for Toyota. Heck even globally, Toyota was selling more Urban Cruiser (Brezza based) than their own cars in African countries.

This Maruti-fied Hycross IMO is better for both brands as it would give the Hycross a bigger field and would provide Maruti with the presence in premium car market until more products arrive.

Also, not sure about the Hilux, but if the next-gen Fortuner is Hybrid enough, I am damn sure we will see a Maruti version of it! Bad? Definitely not if Maruti styles that car like the old XL7 V6 and give it an iconic brand name like the Escudo or Samurai!
