Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

I hope the X-Trail is slated for CKD assembly in India, otherwise it will be a complete flop, as pricing will be prohibitively unaffordable for the Indian market. In both Thailand and UK, where the X-Trail is assembled, it costs 35 -40 lakhs INR. Imagine an 80-100% premium on that if the car were to be imported as CBU and had to account for 100% customs duties. It would cost 65-80 lakhs ex-showroom here in India!

Customers are willing to pay a premium for premium brands like Mercedes and BMW, and to a small extent for VW/Skoda, but they are not paying a penny of premium for Nissan as it seen as a cheap sub-10 lakh brand here. Often, manufacturers bring their vehicles in as CBUs for the launch, with plans to go to CKD manufacturing soon thereafter. They then price the vehicles at launch using the CKD price as the correct long term price. They may have to take a hit on the first batches sold, but they are then able to position the product at the right value point for the market.

X-Trail will have a fighting chance if Nissan were to introduce it here at say 29.99 lakhs ex-showroom. Anything higher than that, will be a hard sell, with the inferior, even absent premium image of the brand and the tiny 1.5L engine offered without the hybrid technology.

I had the same questions in my mind too.

I did some googling / you-tubing (is that a word?), and found that in the UK, this is how the engine options stand:
1.5L 3-cyl Turbo: ~160 BHP
1.5L 3-cyl Turbo + Hybrid: ~200 BHP
1.5L 3-cyl Turbo + Hybrid + AWD (2 motors): 213 BHP

So there is some inconsistency in all these "teases"; If the 200 BHP mentioned is correct, then it has to be the hybrid. But if the "hybrid not coming" is correct, then that 200 BHP is wrong and we only get the base 160 BHP engine.

With Nissan's e-power, the difference in setup is not just on the power figures, unlike any other hybrids out there.

The 1.3L engine on the e-power hybrid setup is designed to never power the vehicle. Its sole purpose is for generating power for the electric motors which actually powers the vehicle.

So its entire characteristic is pure EV - always.

In my humble opinion, if this vehicle is launched without e-power, don't even bother checking it out.

True that. As soon as I found it was not the e-power, I lost interest and stopped following the launch.

I was surprised to see the quoted 206 bhp coming from a 1.5 L 3-cylinder engine. What you have posted makes sense. Hope it will be an AWD with hybrid or just hybrid at least.

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

I own a Nissan Qashqai 1.2 2018 model here in Singapore, Its a CVT. On the Nissan India site, they have listed X Trail as coming soon, both Qashqai and X-Trail cars appeal to me in their looks, X Trail being the beefier elder bro.

No Hybrid version launched in X-Trail. It seems media drive will happen next week and launch will be in this month end.

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

Nissan X-Trail, interiors teased:

- India-spec Nissan X-Trail to get dual-pane sunroof, third row seats
- X-Trail in India to sport automatic transmission

Quote:
The new teaser confirms the presence of an automatic gearbox, drive modes, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold function and cruise control via the buttons mounted on the unique three-spoke steering. The steering seems to be finished in a leatherette material.
Quote:
expect the X-Trail to be priced in the Rs 30 lakh-35 lakh (ex-showroom) region, which means it’ll take on the likes of the Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq, MG Gloster and the Hyundai Tucson

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

Nissan would need more than a sunroof to succeed in this segment. X Trail should have a good engine, be feature-packed, and have proper pricing.

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

Well, launching new cars is one thing, but supporting them is something else. At this point, they hardly have a few dealers and service centers, I just hope they increase the dealer head count whenever they are launching these cars in India. They also need to ensure that their dealers are good, and the existing ones also up their game substantially. Also, I will believe that they are launching a new car, only on the day they unveil it! Otherwise, so far; for Nissan, it's just all show and no go. And why again do I get a feeling that they will price absurdly and make it a flop; only to have discounts added to the price, after a couple of months?

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

New Nissan X Trail colours for India revealed ahead of launch, later this month.

Subdued colours help bring out ‘authentic SUV’ design, says design head Alfonso Albaisa.

Quote:
The colours available will be Diamond Black, Champagne Silver and Solid White, and these were chosen to better position the X Trail as a premium offering, while helping to highlight its return to a more “authentic SUV” look,

They are launching the 2021-23 version in India. Here in American markets they have already launched the 2024 version with the upgraded Google Automotive OS infotainment system that you are referring to.
