Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

I have been waiting to upgrade from Ciaz 2017 petrol to something safe, reliable, not a sub 4m and neither humongous, with a hard price-cap of INR 22L OTR. I am a sedate driver and also try my best to drive defensively in all sorts of situations, and as I consider, with my sedate and very defensive driving style- safety should mean being able to take a hit by these state transport buses or occasionally errant lorries without really letting me suffer physically for long: Then Tata Harrier is the only one that I can eye right away for safety, but reliability is a big if. I hope that something comes out of Nissan for me in this round of blitzkrieg.

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

Nissan seems to have renewed its energy and is back with a new set of offerings. This is something Ford was never ready to do. This announcement would definitely give a boost for folks who are considering the current Nissan Models.

While the announcements are exciting, firstly, I am not sure why did the Nissan management decide to keep it as a closed audience event. Following the tweets of the attendees, looks like they covered multiple technology aspects like e-POWER, ProPilot etc. It appeared like a well organized event and they could have streamed it live to reach a larger crowd.

Anyways, few things are not very clear to me. How long is this 'testing' going to take before they are ready be sold in India? Nissan has already updated about these models in their website and if the actual launch is going to be quite far away, will the interest continue till then? And are all these cars going to take CBU route? If yes, with all the import duty, I am not sure how can Nissan keep a competitive pricing for these models.

There was recent news that the Indian manufacturers have proposed a reduction of import duties to 30% for all car imports from the UK.

Two of the three models showcased here (Juke+Qashqai) are made at Nissan's Sunderland plant in the UK.

Could be a sign of things to come.

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

Interesting move from Nissan - seeing as the Magnite is the only thing keeping the lights on at their Indian division, and given SUVs and crossovers are the meat of the market, why hold yourself back from bringing in your super successful global models.

I have a few reservations -
I really hope they don't miss the boat though. I'd have thought they'd have completed testing on the X-Trail by now if they've confirmed the launch. I can understand using the event to gauge interest in the Qashqai and Juke. I think the former could easily do well and any qualms I would have about the Indian appetite for the polarising looks of the latter are quashed by the stunning success of the current Creta.

The fact the cars seem to include the CVT. My reservation comes from our experience with mum's Micra which we've had since 2015. We love the car, it's solidly built, has very sorted road manners, a respectable ride and is decently equipped. But the CVT on it makes me want to tear my hair out and the fact that the infamous rubber band effect when paired with the petrol engine on it leads to absolutely pathetic fuel figures. It's really put our family off CVTs. I'm admittedly unfamiliar with the exact nature of ePower and what the newer CVTs on Nissan models are like but I'd pray they don't have anything like the mismatch our Micra suffers from, where the engine is always happy to rev freely but the dolt of a gearbox lets the team down.

On the topic of positioning though, I did find a clip where Mr Srivastava mentions the two things needed for a brand revival very telling. He said one is obviously volumes but the other is mind share - the latter would make sense given the aim of the brand to establish a premium brand image amongst consumers I feel.

Here's wishing them well, if only because a diversity of players in the market is only a good thing for the general health of the market.

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

This news should have come out long long ago.

As always they need to price it very very competitively, just like they did with the Magnite. The Creta, Seltos, the new Brezza are all way overpriced, but continue to sell citing brand image, service network etc.

To draw the crowd from there, Nissan needs to bowl a yorker first ball, price.

Nissan cars can match just about any other car in all other parameters .

Our Mods team (rightly) discourages trivial single line posts, but as of now I have only one line to say:
IF Nissan can launch all these cars sensibly priced, the greatest turnaround success story in the history of Indian Automotive scene is in the making.

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

The X-Trail used to be the CR-V competitor, so a 35-40 lakh price point is where I see it. Any idea where the Qashqai would slot in? that looks truly unique. The Juke is a small crossover that could be the most affordable of these three.

We could have had at least the Juke localized and made here in India, had we not kicked the Kicks like we did

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

Good effort to revive by Nissan. Few more Global products coming to India. That’s really nice and Nissan must be appreciate for the effort. With the changing automobile scenario from ICE to Hybrid and EV it’s the right time for Nissan to make a comeback in Indian Market.

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

In the above video, Nissan MD Rakesh Shrivastava makes it clear that this was more a technology showcase of

1 ePower
2. eForce
3. Hybrid

XTrail Qashqai and Juke have been shortlisted for India launch and are in evaluation mode for Indian climatic conditions as India has 4 different terrains and climates in 4 directions.

Most importantly he said CBU CKD SKD LOCAL PRODUCTION has not been decided and is a business decision.

So possibly there may be hope that maybe just maybe if evaluation results are favourable then local manufacturing may also be on the cards.

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

I've always liked the Qashqai and it's a very well sorted and cleverly packaged car. This could be Nissan's best seller for our cities if they price it right. They should focus on this one car and revamp the Magnite instead of going scattergun and trying to rapidly scale.

The X-Trail is a larger car and I'm not sure whether it's going to sell at nearly 40 Lakhs. Also I'm not convinced about the Juke as its funky positioning might not go down well.

What I'd have been really interested in, and hoped for a soft launch is the Ariya. She's an absolute looker.

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

Instead of bringing these as CKDs what Nissan should have done is bring in a "premium" variant of the Magnite with a bit more soft touch/ soft touch plastic interior and some decent fabric stitching. As good as the Magnite and the Kiger look from outside, the interior looks on par with a Nano's if one took a can of black spray paint to it.

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

If these are getting imported and assembled in India (CKD) , it's probably an attempt to keep the showroom floors warm till another actual India specific product is launched. As we have seen with VW-Skoda, the owners will be left with an imported car with questionable after sales support.

or Nissan wants to have some mind share, sell of all the Magnite inventory before the brand says goodbye to India.

They have just one car to sell (Magnite) and they do a poor job of it, including the after sales. It is hard to believe that the same sales and service network will be able to handle an all new product line in the near future.

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

what is surprising is the previous versions of the x-trail and the Juke looked much better than the current gen ones. The Quashqai was ugly when it was discontinued in some markets. the current gen Quashqai looks good.

I suppose the Juke will be a premium sub-4m offering.

Re: Nissan X-Trail, Juke & Qashqai showcased in India

Nissan makes great cars, as reliable as the best ones, and is equally competent to make cars that can match the best in segment and class. But my experience has been that dealers, and probably Nissan itself, seem to work with disinterest and lack of direction: Here at my place I see no enthusiasm in selling products, no follow-up to interests shown for a vehicle, no details on availability of models and time-frame for delivery. I wish the brand a ggreat success- it will be for the better of both, the company and the buyers here: With Fiat, GM and Ford gone, the choices have already shrunken in the 15-25L range.

Just having good cars doesn't matter - ask Fiat !
