Re: Mahindra Roxor caught testing in India

The Roxor has a stall in SEMA 2024

The poster calls it the best offroad side x side. This has generally been the popular opinion. I just can't see why.

Just to be clear, it is not street legal, meaning it can be used on your property only, maybe a ranch or a farm…

If it comes to India it will have to go through homologation and all that jazz and since it doesn’t meet any road safety norm whatsoever, it can best be a farm vehicle like in the US.

Re: Mahindra Roxor caught testing in India

How is street legal determined in India. I was wondering if this car can be redone to compete as a cheap 4 wheel drive SUV like GTO suggests.

Driving 2 wheeler without helmet is the only illegal thing as per Chennai Traffic police

When we do a lot of Illegal things - like High power beam, up to 8 additional lamps on a bus, wrong side driving is right to the user, overload in passenger to goods, school vans can be driven in anyway and any where, worn off/rusted number plates, tail lamp malfunction and the list goes on.

The US market is crying out loud for simple, rugged, basic, easy-to-work-on, mechanical, easily customisable cheap 4x4's. Which they can use as their 2nd or 3rd car, which they can take out on weekends for some trail driving etc.
Unfortunately not a single OEM offers such a model. The Roxor,(basically old THAR modified), has these attributes but it is not a road legal car in the US in the M1 category, hence cannot be used for daily use. For its intended segment, as the narrator mentions, it does its job well.

The Yanks are now tired of their hi-tech, big fat SUV's. They want simpler, tough machinery: something in the original Jeep CJ mould.
Brings me to think: the Jimny would have been a brilliant fit for this segment for the Yanks!
Suzuki: if you are listening, maybe it is time for you to work out a business case?

Suzuki used to sell the 2nd Jimny in North America as the Suzuki Samurai.

It even outsold the Wrangler at one point in time but eventually sales dwindled and introduction of stricter safety norms meant Suzuki had to discontinue sales.
The drop in sales was attributed to a Consumer Reports review which claimed the vehicle was prone to rollovers.
Irregularities were found in the testing procedures and the review was termed a 'hit job' which killed Suzuki North America entirely.

Even if Suzuki were to resume operations today, relying on the Jimny alone may not make much business sense. Suzuki doesn't have any large SUVs or pickup trucks to sell there anyways.
