Is it just me or do all Volvo cars seem very VFM nowadays with the crazy price hikes every car has been getting.

I'd buy a volvo in a hearbeat just for how damn good they look!

These interiors are on another level.

At 65.90L pricing is on par with competition. You will get more kit but then Volvo doesnot enjoy same brand recognition as competition. Engine options are limited and so is their dealer network.

The mini hybrid system comes with only a 2 year warranty. There is no option for even a paid extended warranty. The vehicle will not start without a working mini hybrid system. The cost of replacement is Rs. 2.00 L +. So may need to factor this cost in as well as part of the ownership.

I mean this generation of the XC60 was launched as a CBU a few years ago for 55l ex showroom with air suspension, ride height adjustment etc which were all quietly deleted once they started manufacturing it here. Now it is available only with a petrol engine and priced 10l more to boot. Volvo used to be very good value for money till around 2019 but not anymore sadly unless you count the very well priced xc40 recharge.

The germans have undergone complete generation changes in this time. You will be hard pressed to tell the difference visually today between a 5 year old volvo and a brand new one.

Between this car and s90 which is superior? As they are both similarly priced. Name wise S90 should be a segment higher. Is there any visible difference between the two cars in quality levels?

I agree with you wholeheartedly about the overall lack of change between 2018-2022. Also Volvo lacks snob value in the eyes of many in our country.

When doing a feature to feature comparison, on fit and finish, feature set, power, space, comfort - I considered, test drove, and researched the X3, GLC, Q5 and Evoque (just for fun) before buying the XC60. Of course its highly subjective, but I found it the superior vehicle in every department except one: badge value.

Congratulations on your new car. Does this not come with air suspension? Here in the UK, the Ultimate variant comes with air suspension.

No air suspension, and no lowering the car via buttons in the boot for easy cargo loading. Both features went along with the D5 engine option

Well that's a shame. I wonder if it is due to reliability issues of the air suspension on Indian roads. But otherwise, the pricing of the XC60 is extremely VFM. I booked the same car here and the retail price of the car is 62k £. And this does not include insurance and road tax. Equipment wise it is identical with the only glaring difference being the suspension.

Here Volvo is offering the diesel variant in only the "plus" trim with no options to customize the car and choose additional equipment like a sunroof etc. Rather strange policy since this is quite the norm here.

This is an interesting question. The XC60 is faster to 100, despite the engines being identical; the turbo implementation might be different, not sure.

The s90 has more leg room in the rear, though weirdly enough the xc60 has more rear legroom than the xc90 !

The s90 has 18 way adjustable seats, while the XC60 is 16 was adjustable. Similarly, it gets 19 speakers while the xc60 gets 15. I think it also gets an additional airbag.

the s90 gets wider tyres and FWD, the xc60 gets all wheel drive by contrast.

On the inside I would say you would be very very hard pressed to find differences in quality, fit, or finish.

Re: Volvo XC60 mild-hybrid launched at Rs 65.90 lakh

Hi friends, I have another query. Why does Volvo not have the brand value of the German trio? How is brand value decided? Based on how much a customer is willing to pay? By that logic, yes the most expensive Benz is a lot more expensive than the most expensive Volvo. But then what about Lexus? It's cars are more expensive than the Benz ones. And Toyota because of LC should be placed above Volvo too?

Continuing further, between the following pairs, which has greater brand value?

1. Porsche vs Range Rover
2. Benz vs Jaguar
3. Maybach vs Bentley?
4. Bmw vs Lexus?

It's decided by how jealous Uncle Sharma next door when you buy a car of that brand

Brand value is a very interesting thing to seek, but beware, that there is a risk that brand experience may go haywire once you acquire the thing. Maybe think about fitness for purpose, reliability and peace of mind over brand value. Here's a memorable quote on brand value:
Quote:
It’s like the girlfriend in high school who you couldn’t have. The less accessible she was, the more you couldn’t get her out of your head, the more she overshadowed other girls who might have been as worthwhile but ignored because they were more accessible, if you will.
Brand value is the premium you pay, for the intangible.
Quote:
I think Seth Godin did a great job defining it or helping people get a good grip. Seth wrote, ‘A brand’s value is merely the sum total of how much extra people will pay, or how often they choose, the expectations, memories, stories and relationships of one brand over the alternatives.’
and a very interesting interview on brand value.
