Re: Jeep Compass prices hiked by around Rs. 90,000

This is the experience at Jeep Landmark Service Centre in Delhi.

Paint mis-match on body panels

Police coming and towing away cars.

Other customers being dropped off in other customer’s cars.

Re: Jeep Compass prices hiked by around Rs. 90,000

Damn....glad I got a pre-owned 2017 Compass Limited option, for 16 lakhs for my dad back in 2020. It's a petrol automatic and that being said, its not great to drive but other positives still there and dad is ok with the performance so to speak. Ran just 27k back when I got it and as of now it's still at 31k. Considering the current prices, guess it's not a bad deal and don't plan to sell it soon.

On the lines of Mad max 2 quoting "The last of the V8 interceptors", Compass is "Last of the driver's suv". Compass feels like a spiritual successor to Ford's when it comes to ride, handling and steering.

Re: Jeep Compass prices hiked by around Rs. 90,000

It feels like Jeep is trading volumes for higher margins given the supply chain issues globally.

Jeep Compass is the only car in the 25-40 lakh ex showroom range thats available for nearly immediate delivery without any feature deletions this year.

With WFH ending for many and people wanting to buy a new car after 2 years of not much travel, Jeep thinks they would be ready to pay a 2-3 lakh premium ( works out to ~ 10% on ex show room) to get delivery earlier.

Looking at all the graphs it appears maximum price hike has been for the sport diesel and sport petrol possibly because of higher demand. Yet the dealers try their best to discourage potential customers from buying the sport variants. This is going to hurt Jeep eventually. If MG or Tata comes up with a powerful petrol variant for the Hector and Harrier respectively compass sales are going to suffer.

Re: Jeep Compass prices hiked by around Rs. 90,000

Well as the one who has very recently bought a Jeep Compass, Night Eagle for 22.3 lacs, which in next few days turned 23.2 lacs, I would say that not providing an auto irvm, cruise control and probably sunroof at this price point is unjustified. About its positives, well I own one now.
Regards

Not sure i agree to this statement for the following reasons-

1. Are you comparing Compass volume change since 2017 launch year? That may not be the right way to compare as the first year there always is a lot of initial euphoria that does not reflect actual sales volumes. I would compare from Year 2- where volumes have stabilized.

2. You are correlating full sales volume drop to pricing. Not correct. Sales volumes drop is due to competition also. The cars that were launched since 2017- Safari,Harrier, XUV700, VW twins- so many cars have made the the 15-30 lakh segment a much more competitive place than what it was.

3. Unlike others that have been deleting features, Compass has been adding a lot of features to commesurate for the price increases (atleast up till 2021 facelift). Try a 2017 Sports model against a 2022 Sports and you will know what i am referring to.

We are entering into a phase where as a result of supply-demand mismatch, current inflationary scenario, and end of lifecycle of ICE engines, companies will try to extract maximum out of their current products. A one horse company like Jeep will do not do anything different from the above to survive.

Do note that i am not supporting these price hikes in any way, and i hope there is some endgame for Jeep- like creating space for the sub-4 mt SUV to exist through this.

Re: Jeep Compass prices hiked by around Rs. 90,000

Personally, the problem is not the price increase of Compass. Every car is going up in the price and for some it’s value and some others it’s not. The main problem that I have on Compass is both diesel (manual or auto) and petrol are not great performers. I cannot think about spending 40+ lakhs and still be slower than many cars which are cheaper than Compass - 1.4 Turbo Hyundai’s, 1.5 VAGs, XUV 700. In real world and numbers even Rapid/Vento/Polo 1 TSIs are faster than Compass. Now that’s something I cannot live with after spending 40+ lakhs. Hope along with the price at some point they increase the power output and engine response too.

Re: Jeep Compass prices hiked by around Rs. 90,000

It's quite absurd.

What is even more appalling is that Jeep & FCA thinks this is worth the money when the list of features that they deleted from the compass vs the versions they sell abroad is a joke. Just take a look at how they've short changed Indian customers with silly feature deletions on the compass they sell here. Right from the key fob with blank buttons to the missing middle seat headrest in the rear.. there are some more small and probably not so expensive kit that they've excluded from the Indian market compared to what they put on abroad.

This is one expensive 4 seater at these prices.

Coupled with the shocking reliability issues, quality shortfalls, fit and finish problems, brand apathy and a whole litany of part failures out of nowhere, makes me wonder how this thing even notches up 700+ units a month.

Jeep got a boost after Hyundai basically priced the Tucson well out of competitive range.. though the Tucson carries a lot more kit, had it been better priced, they'd have swallowed up a lot of Jeep's potential customer base.

But then again, make hay while the Sun shines.. Volkswagen is doing the same with the Virtus in India vs the kit it carries in Brazil. Starting from the headlights to the budget version of the digital cockpit.. now is just not the time to be a new car buyer in India.

Re: Jeep Compass prices hiked by around Rs. 90,000

It looks like the entire Jeep range including the Compass is getting another price hike from 1st January 2023 as per the link below.
