Thanks to this thread, I got valuable inputs on selling my car. Obligated to share my recent experience of selling my Scorpio SLE 2010 model.

1. Which website did you successfully sell your car / bike on?
|
OLX Autos. I had registered for sale at Cars24, CarWale, CarDekho, Mahindra 1st choice & Team-BHP classifieds.

2. How was the experience?
|
The overall experience relatively was a breeze (thanks to the info here). My car Ads started to appear on Fri morning and I had the sale completed by Sun evening.
OLX Autos (Not to be confused with the general OLX selling portal):
Pretty professional in their approach. Timely callback, appointment schedules, 2x times thorough inspection w/TD & 150+ checklist items, assigning a direct point of contact to clarify queries, allowing room for negotiation, full payment from OLX within an hour of signing the papers. I got a reasonable (& best) price after couple of rounds of negotiation. They take 2K as their charges. In my case, apparently a buyer is already waiting and has paid the advance. They are guaranteeing to complete the transfer within 30 days.
The guy who came for the inspection was an auto enthusiast. In his own words, mine was one of the better maintained Scorpios & apparently stated so in his report. Perhaps, this is the reason, OLX didn't want to let go of the vehicle.
My neighbour's i10 selling experience with OLX also helped.
Cars24:
This was my 1st choice as many members had rated so. They responded immediately, but inspection wasn't thorough. No TD, but external & internal look around. They even sent me the inspection report.
The price quoted was low and they seemed very convinced I wouldn't get more anywhere else. No follow up from them either.
CarWale / CarDekho:
These are market places unlike the above. The ad shows up in the portal and individual buyers can reach out. But, these portals help the seller to get indicative prices (through their algorithms) for their vehicle.
Mahindra 1st choice:
The website doesn't work reliably. Neither could get an indicative price, nor could book an appointment. Got an appointment through their tollfree number. They promptly sent someone for inspection. Before they could offer a quote, I had closed the deal. With Mahindra, there is no tracking info - No SMS, no WhatsApp.
Team-BHP Classifieds:
A fellow Team-BHPian (not an individual buyer, though) was very serious in the purchase. I eventually decided to go with OLX. Price, availability of an immediate buyer and they already had someone at my door to handle the paper work.

3. Do tell us stories about the serious guys & timewasters.
|
Since I followed the recommendations in this thread to avoid timewasters and closed the deal fast, I didn't have to encounter this issue.

4. How fast / slow did the sale happen? Did it take a lot of time to sell your car?
|
3 days. Perhaps, my temperament didn't allow for a longer wait.

5. Did you pay for the listing, or free?
|
None of the listed sites, charged for the listing. As mentioned, OLX deducted 2K from the final transaction amount for their service.

6. Did you get the expected price or did you have to go way below? For my Civic, I had to slash the price drastically as the model had poor demand in the used market (unlike the Corolla Altis).
|
I would think so. Even at the time of signing the papers, I got a call asking, if I would be willing to sell to a portal if they provided a better quote. I politely declined.
There are different ways to look at this. One could drag this process for weeks / months over few thousands. It would be an individual's call to assess if their time is worth that money. Every inspection takes about 30-40 mins, multiple negotiations, etc. Once the vehicle is put up for sale, you also want to be cautious with that vehicle and not reduce its value due to damages. I also heard, if you stay longer in this process and your vehicle goes into multiple auctions, the value can potentially reduce.
Based on my own experience:
1) Good photographs of your vehicle helps to create a very good initial impression. If there are constraints on the number of photos to upload, use collages.
2) A well-maintained car, most often should get a good inspection report. Even if you get that pulse from one inspector, it gives you the confidence to negotiate harder.
3) I believe, it isn't a general practice to share the inspection reports with the seller. An inspector advised me against requesting it. He seemed to indicate, the report will not be the gospel truth. For e.g., if the vehicle is in top condition, in order to keep the price under control, they may highlight some unseen issues (scratches, dents, niggles, etc). Despite me clarifying, there was no part replacement in my car, I gathered later, the report talked about bumper replacement.
