Have said it many times now

A person in the market for a BoF SUV will not look at a monocoque SUV and vice-versa.

Buyers of a Scorpio N / Classic and XUV700 will be different. It’s a different case where people who haven’t got their XUV700 delivered are switching to the Scorpio N bandwagon in hope of getting a faster delivery.

The dark grey color is sorely missed on the Scorpio-N. Front or back, I like the design of the Scorpio classic better than the Big Daddy. Especially in that dark grey!

Re: Mahindra Scorpio Classic | A Close Look & Preview

Nice and elegant update on the classic. Wish they provided with AT and 4x4

I see that the ScorpioN AT pricing is touching almost 26L-28L for Z8L on road in Bangalore and with the AT, the options would be wider for customers.

I personally prefer the classic over the ScorpioN (not because I own the 2nd gen). I feel this is done nicely and has the character you want in a BoF

Also, reserving 4x4 only for Thar and ScorpioN is not a wise idea.

Even I was thinking of the same. Haven't read anything if they have done some changes to the body shell.

The Scorpio tested back in 2016, did not have any airbags. But, looking at the mangled shell, don't know if the addition of airbags will help with the rating.

3.5 lakh premium for mostly cosmetic difference in feature set? Seriously? Is something missing?

Ok - guess Mahindra is happy selling the S cause the S11 is simply overpriced for what it offers above the S.

From what I could see.

The exterior trims, the interior trims, the door cards, the seats, the dashboard, Instrument cluster, center console, steering wheel, headliner, HVAC system, Cruise control, remote locking, power mirrors and I'm sure there is some more if we keep looking.

The prospective customers will pay the additional 3.5 lakhs immediately if they can afford it.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio Classic | A Close Look & Preview

Scorpio N introductory price is sheer VFM considering the Classic price. If Classic, then S variant would be the pick. Except for rear wiper/defogger, almost everything can be added to convert to S11 variant.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio Classic | A Close Look & Preview

I was expecting that they would also retain the 4wd version with the entry level S1 variant.

Could someone please explain, why there are only two variants in the Classic range ?

Rumour is that this model exists just to mop up the pent up demand that still exists for the Scorpio in our market. The plan may be to discontinue this product in 1-2 years as it fades out. That's why no petrol engine option too.

Must have learnt from Royal Enfield who took the 40,000 a month Classic off the sales chart to be replaced by the 25,000 a month Classic Reborn. On hindsight, they should have kept the Classic on sale with a lesser price.

What I am unable to understand is that you get so much more with the Z2 than what you get with the S for only 50,000 and no price difference if you are opting for the petrol. This looks like a clear indication that the ScorpioN prices are slated to go northward as deliveries commence.

Another thing that should be foxing their minds is that the Old Bolero still outsells the Bolero Neo. They don't want to be caught with their pants down and are ready for a scenario where the Classic would outsell the ScorpioN. Keeping all their bases covered

Another question I had in mind is why Mr. Anand Mahindra is not around at the launches. He was there at the Yezdi launch a few years back. Only his DRs closed out the ScorpioN launch, wonder why

Re: Mahindra Scorpio Classic | A Close Look & Preview

I expected a big price cut at the expense of some features. AT 15.49 Lakhs, Scorpio Classic is more expensive than Scorpio-N Z6(14.99L). Even though we do not get alloys or DRL's I think Scorpio N Z4/Z6/Z4 AT are the alternatives to Scorpio S11. While N might be better in safety and size, Scorpio Classic looks more balanced, has a large and usable flat boot and more chuckable in city traffic.

The role of Classic is possibly limited to the below scenarios

> There is still life left in stamping tools and so use them completely
> Rural demand and people on tight budgets who still need a proper SUV
> XUV7OO and Scorpio N will bring people to the showrooms but a vehicle booking is challenging due to long lead times. Some of them will be diverted to Classic with a promise of quicker delivery
> This should be still evolving but Toyota not taking bookings for diesel Innova could be windfall for Mahindra and its always good to have many offerings

So two variants should be sufficient to serve all the above. Things will get very interesting when 5 door version of Thar is available to launch. A major jig of variants in XUV7OO, Scorpio N, Scorpio Classic will happen and then Mahindra will have a sorted portfolio with minimal overlap.
