Re: Ford stops manufacturing cars in India

It should be named as the car that created a segment. Sad they had to wind up everything. I was looking forward for New-Endeavour and M&M joint venture.

I would have auctioned off the last car.

Re: Ford stops manufacturing cars in India

The last one is a 4WD. It says so on the boot.

Ironically, if they had launched the 4WD Ecosport in India right from the start, it may have been a game changer for them and they might not have had to wind up.

Re: Ford stops manufacturing cars in India

No doubt it's sad to see the EcoSport's (the highest-sold Ford car in India) production being stopped.

But I am extremely sad for this prototype! Seeing the XUV7OO’s success, this would've been a killer SUV by Ford (another blockbuster after the EcoSport), only if it had seen the light of day

Re: Ford stops manufacturing cars in India

I am a very happy EcoSport owner- it has been, by far, the best car I have owned. Its safe as a tank, reasonably fuel efficient, pleasurable to drive for an average John Doe driver, good creature comforts and came at a reasonable price.

When you have a success, you double down, triple down on it. That's just good common sense. Its a pity Ford India failed to do it in spite of all the support from Ford US leadership and Allan Mulally himself.

<mods please remove if this is against rules> We should fix accountability where it belongs- with then Ford India CEO Joginder Singh and his leadership team who (as rumor had it then) prioritized export over local sales , leaving a gap in market demand, failed to update the product with new features like AWD at higher average selling prices, failed to bring any of the other myriad SUV products even when it was clear that the trend was moving to SUVs...the list goes on.

Its sad as a customer. I hope Ford finds a way to bounce back with EVs. - and not just with CBU import F-150 that no fan can buy.

Re: Ford stops manufacturing cars in India

It's so disheartening to see Ford winding up it's business in India. This will also mean Ford may lose it's foothold in Nepal too, though one dealer ensured that they will get cars from Thailand. And this looks to be true because I see a couple of Everests here in place of Endeavour. Here in UK (I'm here for a short visit), I see there are variety of models here like Focus, Mondeo, Kuga, Puma, Fiesta etc. Their stationwagon models are quite popular too. Good to see Ecosport here but without a wheel on tailgate. When they had a variety of models already researched and developed, why did they refrain from bringing them to India and other south Asian countries?

Is it proper 4WD or AWD? Would be interesting if its the former. However as you rightly pointed out its too late to introduce this model. Dont know what precluded Ford from doing so at the earlier stage.

Off Topic:
It is now well known that Ford and Mahindra were jointly working on many models where the now launched XUV 700 and it’s Ford prototype were developed first. Grapevine is that the Ford design was better then the 700 and it is where Mahindra developed cold feet about the success of the model and the pitfalls of joint development of future cars and which eventually lead to the dissolution of the JV !!

Now, as for Ecosport, well it’s sad that the last Ecosport has rolled out from the factory. The car created a segment that is now the success story of so many manufacturers. Being an Ecosport owner myself, I know the joys of driving this fantastic little car. Would hope that, one day Ford makes a comeback again, for India is too big a market to be ignored by global giants !!

Re: R.I.P. Ford EcoSport: Last unit rolls off assembly line in India

The Ford Ecosport was a great car, my uncle had a 2014 Ford Ecosport Diesel, he was so much in love with it that when he went for a new car in 2020 December, he test drove all the Compact SUVs available then and he couldn't settle for anything other than the Ecosport, so he bought a brand new 2020 Ford Ecosport on 1st January, 2021 but just 6 months later, a fuel pump issue occurred and he sent the car to the dealership, but they couldn't arrange a part replacement under warranty for over 3 weeks, frustrated with the dealership, he demanded a new car or his money back. They gave him the entire money back without even asking a question the next day itself.

A few months later, it was announced that the Ford is closing its operations in India.

They created it but did not bother giving us an all new version or give a proper facelift. Almost all major compact SUVs sells around 10K units per month and Ford could have easily achieved that number with the Ecosport.

Re: R.I.P. Ford EcoSport: Last unit rolls off assembly line in India

It is sad that during times when Indian market is evolving towards the value of better safety and driving dynamics in premium cars, the one company which was most suitable for it left the country. The last car for Indian markets should have been made long back, but this too is a solemn moment for Ford lovers.

Ford always was the right balance between Japanese/Korean reliability and European driving dynamics with a solid feel. Decent safety ratings also made it a compelling package. It is astonishing that no other manufacturer could claim that space till now.

I had been a Ford lover since long - owned the Ikon, Figo and an Ecosport. In my opinion, Ecosport was the best package ever made by Ford for India. No wonder it became their best selling model.

My Ecosport is now 8 years old. Even though I have newer cars now, this one is always a pleasure to drive and use. So, parting with it is not very easy. Using it as a beater now which I find is something that suits it quite well (Mine is a 1.5 TDci Titanium (O) with a Code6 remap).

A facelift was planned in 2021 and a few spy shots of the car had leaked too, but with Ford's impending exit, the launch had to be scrapped.

After the exit of GM & Ford (or the way handled it), one cannot trust any American brands now

Very happy with our Indian brands like TATA/M&M. They have done things which many international brands could not do in so many years in India and improving themselves.

peace
