Re: Delhi could ban 1 million diesel vehicles to curb pollution

Same story every year. When COVID 2 death toll couldn't change the country, what will the 1 month inconvenience going to do?

This requires the level of research and planning our election happy politicians can't do.

I know this is very controversial but atleast NGT tries to put band aid on a bullet wound.

On personal front, it's just a bit worse this year due to Work from Office mandates.

Re: Delhi could ban 1 million diesel vehicles to curb pollution

Public health is one of the least priority areas of successive Indian govts, irrespective of the political party at the helm. Nothing is going to improve and govt will wait for nature to take care of the situation(strong winds blowing away pollutants/rain etc).

Same story for another annual occurrence ie Dengue fever, where governments wait for the weather to change so that cold will control the breeding of mosquitoes.
Public is lucky that govt is not milking the opportunity to fill their coffers by implementing a pollution cess!!

Re: Delhi could ban 1 million diesel vehicles to curb pollution

All this tells me is that all the odd-even number plate rules and the blanket banning of perfectly good 10 year old diesel and 15 year old petrol cars hasn't helped the situation. Will they ever admit that maybe cars aren't the main problem after all and other measures need to be taken? Or are they willing to continue this farce as long as people let them?

When the last car is banned and the air quality is just as bad, hopefully are some repercussions for this mockery they have made of environmental concerns.

Re: Delhi could ban 1 million diesel vehicles to curb pollution

Just curious. What will happen to all bs4 diesel cars registered until Mar 2020. Some of them would be just 3 years old. They are no longer allowed to run? What the customer should do with their cars?

Re: Delhi could ban 1 million diesel vehicles to curb pollution

Government - You arent allowed to use your perfectly okay BS4 diesel cars beyond 10 years

Same government using a 37 year old polluting bus

Registered to none other than the Managing Director, Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation

This is just an example. Can government replace all their BS4 diesel vehicles in Delhi before enforcing this juvenile order?

Re: Delhi could ban 1 million diesel vehicles to curb pollution

Delhi has become a furnace. I had been to Delhi last December and I had a tough time breathing properly. The AQI levels must have reached toxic levels. Having said about the problem, the authorities are trying to solve the problem by falsely identifying the root cause of the problem. They say that cars are the cause of this malice and banning them will solve the problem.

Well, the real reason is stubble burning in the adjoining states. I have traveled in the surrounding states during the same period and I have seen thousands of acres of land burning up producing tonnes of toxic smoke. Where does all this smoke go? Delhi. Delhi being a landlocked area, the smoke just gets trapped in there creating a smog blanket, especially during winters.

Now the authorities can't blame the real root cause of this problem as it is caused by farmers and farmers in India are a very sensitive issue. No politician will ever blame them for the smoke problem or take any action against them. So that leaves the general tax-paying citizens who pay to buy cars by investing a significant part of their tax-paid income to buy vehicles just to get tracked down and get penalized like criminals. It's sad but it's true and I can say one thing for sure even if there are zero cars on the road the smog problems will not get solved because the root cause of the problem was never addressed.

Re: Delhi could ban 1 million diesel vehicles to curb pollution

Its not a handful of govt officials or the govt that is causing pollution. Its the citizens.

Barring the winds all other factors contributing to the pollution is us. Most of us are voracious consumers and just consuming stuff at an alarming pace. The craze for big engine butch SUVs, new fancy houses, travelling and splurging on gizmos is all fuelling this pollution. When I sit back and think what Delhi govt could actually do to stop it, I hardly get any good ideas that can be effectively rolled out. Come up with harsher measures like banning vehicles, odd-even, ban on stubble burning and govt comes under the ire of aam janta who want miracle cures not realizing their own contribution to this entire mess. Well, this is price we pay for rampart urbanization, luxury and unthoughtful consumption. Some countries get away with pollution but then get battered by hurricanes and other natural calamities. Its happening everywhere, nature is fighting back to bring the balance.

Re: Delhi could ban 1 million diesel vehicles to curb pollution

Today they are blaming vehicles for all the pollution, in a weeks time it'll be Firecrackers.

A video is being circulated where in some closed committee/meeting Arvind Kejriwal is being questioned on what measures is he taking to control fires in punjab and what is he doing to curb pollution in Delhi, without saying a word he just got up and left the meeting.

Here is a link to the video: https://www.reddit.com/r/delhi/comme...eb2x&context=3

With general elections as well as Haryana elections due in a few months, no political party can say or do anything even remotely against farmer ‘interest’. And burning stubble just so happens to one of those interests. This year’s pollution is going to be one of the worst on record. Fact is that political apathy and vested interests have allowed the agrarian community to hold the entire North India’s health to ransom.

Re: Delhi could ban 1 million diesel vehicles to curb pollution

In india the cause of a problem is always someone/something else and hence we all wait for others to do something.
I see comments asking for stricter PUC checks. I believe that's physically impossible considering the sheer volume of cars. More wider and nicer roads, thats not doable either, Delhi is all packed up.

I was traveling from Delhi to Noida and there is police on every nook and corner in Delhi looking for diesel cars.
If you see , due to restrictions on travel plus 10 years registration has made buying Diesel a very risky proposition in Delhi NCR.

Re: Delhi could ban 1 million diesel vehicles to curb pollution

What are they trying to do? What about a middle-class man who earned and saved his hard-earned money for many years, finally bought a car to his liking, and is now banned from using that car? The value of the car, ( Money he saved all this year ) is going to drop drastically because the air quality is not good? And the government still uses diesel buses and other such vehicles.

Many have invested in transportation, tourism vehicles, and all of them are going to be banned, causing their values to plummet. Perhaps may be it's a new way to push them towards electric vehicles
