Re: 2022 Maruti Grand Vitara to debut on July 20 | Pre-bookings open

With 17.09 lakhs for the Toyota Hyryder Mild Hybrid Top variant with AT, Grand Vitara Alpha AT is DOA for me even if it is 50K less than its corresponding Hyryder variant.

Absurd and greedy pricing for the mild hybrid power train. Just 100 bhp from a 4 Cylinder 1.5 l engine and a very lame tune. Totally can't justify the asking price for mild hybrid.

Really loved the grand vitara but only in full hybrid powertrain. In mild hybrid powertrain i don't think it would be enough to push such a heavy car. Therefore, would be getting really less mileage in mild hybrid powertrain.

I am fairly confident that Maruti will price the mild hybrid lower than Toyota and the full hybrid will be more than Toyota.

I have a feeling that both brands will cross charge more i.e. if you buy Hyryder with full Hybrid, Toyota will undercut and make Maruti charge more and vice versa if mild hybrid, Maruti will give a lower price and make Toyota charge more.

So Toyota focuses on full hybrid and Maruti on mild hybrid. That way both have some differentiation.

Toyota fan will pay the premium for mild hybrid and Maruti fan might pay for full hybrid which they are letting the customer choose.

They could have limited the options by letting Toyota sell only full Hybrid and Maruti only mild hybrid but it's good to see they haven't.

If we look at the complete vehicle as an entity, from Maruti's point of view, for the strong hybrid option, except for the drive train, rest everything (platform, common parts from Maruti's other cars, etc) is from Maruti stable . For mild hybrid, everything is from Maruti.

From Toyota's point of view, the same thing holds correct. So Toyota's contribution is for strong hybrid powertrain and manufacturing for all variants.

In this scenario, will Maruti still charge more for strong hybrid variants?

Thanks in advance.

Re: 2022 Maruti Grand Vitara to debut on July 20 | Pre-bookings open

Toyota typically carries a badge premium of ~50k+ for the twins that they share with Maruti. My expectation is that it should stay the same. Unless, Vidyut's guess is actually insider information coming from trusted sources.

Re: 2022 Maruti Grand Vitara to debut on July 20 | Pre-bookings open

I have a booking of Zeta AT and my SA has indicated that prices will be out by mid next week and this was yesterday. Looking at Toyota pricing GV zeta AT should be around 14.25 - 14.5 as per my expectation which makes Brezza ZXI +AT better value proposition. With same engine, GV mild hybrid may not be better then Brezza given the increased weight.

Will wait a few more weeks to decide if I should go ahead or not.

The reason Toyota has only released the prices of their hybrid powertrain variants earlier is pretty clear…

The hybrid powertrain is Toyota’s and they will price it lower, even I’m sure the Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid will be more expensive variant-to-variant.

Like the earlier Glanza and Urban Cruiser, where these cars didn’t have the base variants that their Maruti counterparts had, same thing is happening with the Grand Vitara. It doesn’t get an equivalent S strong hybrid of the HyRyder so it’s clear who will have the upper hand in terms of pricing for the Strong Hybrid.

The Grand Vitara is going to undercut the HyRyder in the mild hybrid variants…

Re: 2022 Maruti Grand Vitara to debut on July 20 | Pre-bookings open

Who would have thought a 100bhp engine is going to retail at 17L ex-showroom!!!

But this ain't shocking since it was always on the cards keeping in view how Brezza was priced. Hate to state that but does this new pricing makes Brezza look a better option?
If the single trick pony of "mileage Kitna deti hai" succeeds for this so called premium car, then we should just accept that Maruti is always right. We don't deserve to cringe on their sub-par offerings.

Very true.
Brezza is itself overpriced now and people are lapping it up.
So we Indians don't have any right to cringe on any sub-par offerings from not just Maruti but other brands as well. This demand is the reason for absurd pricing from the brands.

I was expecting a price of Rs 13.5 for Zeta AT and 15.5 for Alpha AT, looks like Alpha AT will be 16.5+ now.
Totally not worth paying for a lethargic 100bhp engine.

The Toyota Corolla diesel with the mighty 87 bhp engine was available at an eye-watering ex-showroom price of 19.5 lakhs till early 2020. And that was at a time when car prices still made some sense.

Exactly same thoughts, now I may go with other options rather than the zeta AT I have booked.

Re: 2022 Maruti Grand Vitara to debut on July 20 | Pre-bookings open

As expected Toyota has already screwed up here and not sure how much room Maruti has here. Once the excitement is over, I can see these cars going for discounts.

They have a strong case if they manage to undercut Diesel AT pricing of Koreans but they have already overshot it by a lakh easily.

Diesel is anyway dying and most are now opting for petrol cars. Price band widens even more for Petrol vs Hybrid and for most, it may not be viable going for hybrid anyway. (for my running of 10-15K kms per year, it would take 4-5 years to recover such a premium)

No it’s not the Made in India battery from TDS Gujarat but an imported battery pack. It’s imported by Toyota and is the same battery Toyota uses in its Japan made strong hybrids. This is confirmed by Toyota tech folks that I know personally. I wonder though why you would be more keen to book if it was made in India ?

Best time to buy a used well-maintained SCross petrol 1.5. Have been eyeing this for a while. The older SCross is probably the only big car that handles like a hatchback. Bang for the buck 100%.
