June 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only cars that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Re: June 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

There is a small typo in the sales under Jeep. The 1071 units are for Meridian I assume instead of the Wrangler.

Re: June 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Jeep Wrangler dispatched 1071 in June. Bravo! Or is that the Meridian's number?

Edit: Got the answer from ChethanM6.

I believe, Wagon-R the leader has been missed out in the top-20?

Re: June 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

It is interesting to note that the overall car sales in the AMJ 2022 (about 9 lakhs), is way more than the festive/yearend sale in OND 2021 (about 7.5 lakhs). I can't comprehend that. The car market is reallly bullish. No wonder, price increases and no discounts is the norm.

Let's see how long this party goes on, but my sense is either we have peaked out or we will be peaking out no later than OND 2022.

This kind of growth can't sustain for too long.

Re: June 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

~ 90% of the Tata sales are from sub 10L products (except may be few top variants). What a wasted opportunity. They can easily sell 5K each of expensive Sumo, Safari, and Sierra if they launch competitive products to carry these brand names. You can also add 1000-2000 Xenon pickups to the list.

Re: June 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Finally Hyundai Santro seems to have reached end of the road.
I thought as there was no official confirmation from Hyundai (or was there one), it's still a rumor.
Did not expect Hyundai to fail at this attempt especially after using the legendary brand name.
Anyways, Indian market is very un-predictable.
Why do we see a sudden jump in Kona Dispatches? Any govt or fleet orders or company is planning to surprise us with facelifted model?

Who are buying Verito Vibe in today's market, given that KUV 100 is doing 0 dispatches?

Sad to see not-so-good numbers for VW 2.0 twins. Is manufacturing still restricted because of some reason like chip shortage?

Now Tata need a Creta rival immediately and then they are sure to seal the number 2 spot for longer period.

Kushaq and Taigun still notches up 5K per month sales together inspite of bad press on aircon issues last few months. Interesting. Good to see Nexon and XUV 300 see steady run

Re: June 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

3100+ copies of Fortuner and I am not surprised by prices hike. And these are cars costing average of 45L + . When the demand is so good, it would be a bad business decision to not hike prices. That said I am sure these are temporary numbers, catering to backlog. Impressive numbers for Meridian too!

Manufacturers should start looking at launching models in 40-50L price bracket, I am sure there will be good volumes in this space.

Re: June 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Interesting month - the C2 Executive Sedan Bucket sees a spike after a long time in a Calendar Year.

MoM, the likes to City+Ciaz+Verna+VAG twins have seen 11,057 new homes in June '22. An increase of about 6.5% from May '22.

Is it safe to claim the fact that we're seeing a resurrection of the erstwhile dying C2 Executive Sedan Segment? Flag bearers being Slavia+Virtus.

Sad to see Honda City Hybrid being not able to create an impact we had hoped for, as we see a decline of about 350 units in June '22 sales when compared to May '22.

As a sedan lover, I'm happy to see the trend and wish it continues going forward.
