Union Minister Nitin Gadkari - Law to reward person sending pics of wrongly parked vehicle in offing

Union Minister Gadkari has another idea. Good or bad ? You decide.

Soon, a person sending photograph of a wrongly parked vehicle may get a reward of Rs 500 in case the fine works out to be Rs 1,000, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday.

Quote:
"Main ek kanoon laane wala hun ki road par jo vehicle khadi karega, uska joh mobile se photo nikal kar bhejega, usko agar Rs 1,000 fine hoga, toh Rs 500 photo nikalane wale ko milega. Toh parking ka problem solve ho jayega (I am going to bring a law under which a person sending photograph of a wrongly parked vehicle will get Rs 500 if the total fine works out to be Rs 1,000. Then the problem of parking will be solved)," he said.

The problem with these is that the identity of the informant is not protected. The accused can even see who complained.

At least that is how the Bangalore Traffic Police app was implemented

That being the case, you can understand the issues for slightly serious crimes.

I would stay away.

While we are at this, I would also love if in Mumbai they bring such reward system to spot bikers without helmets (and pillion too), to click photo and get reward. I will become millionaire if this happens.

There is already a similar option in Mumbai Traffic App in which you can report violations but there is no reward for the same.

Re: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari - Law to reward person sending pics of wrongly parked vehicle in of

Personally speaking I welcome any such move that can instill fear of law and give hope to law-abiding citizens. Anything that can bring some semblance of discipline on the road is very welcome.

Having said that it needs to pass the scrutiny of legal experts - the SOP, guidelines, robust framework based on practical scenarios etc. Only then something sensible can be achieved. Then comes execution or implementation of this "law" whenever that happens.

Sadly this is where we lag as the traffic police force is woefully inadequate and we don't have any dearth bad elements who absolutely do not care or bother about it.

How about an equally easy way to complain against the quality of road, traffic lights, etc (basically all the provisions by the govt) where we can raise complain, note who is the concerned govt official responsible, and what action has been taken by/against him/her post our complaint.

Transparency has to be a two-way traffic.

No way, no business case. You are literally asking them to commit suicide. Whatever be the new rule, it should expand catchment area and thats a good business case sugar coated as reform.

Reversal: revenge seekers can morph and drag anyone into endless legal loops.

Re: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari - Law to reward person sending pics of wrongly parked vehicle in of

Foolish ideas are "produced" just like from a factory.
  • What if many people are sending the photo of the same car (parked wrongly) from different angles / at different date and time?
  • How will you know whether the car parked there once / many times?
  • What if someone morphs the images and send?
  • What about starting a "business" with this? Locate 10 wrongly parked vehicles each day and you can earn 5000 per day! You can even appoint your employees, and make millions a month! (But please don't start such a business - they will retrace from this as usual.)
  • What are these traffic police for?
  • Is the govt providing enough parking spots in cities?
  • For private buildings built earlier when the parking space rules were not in place, are they going to demolish those buildings and build new ones?
  • Have they thought about the traffic blocks created by broken roads, their own cavalcade, toll booths, political processions on roads etc?
  • When politicians are conducting meetings, are they doing it in locations where those many vehicles can be parked?

Just because someone is rich and can park 100 cars in his house doesn't mean that all people are capable of doing that. Is anyone from that team thinking about common man nowadays?

And Pune RTO officers who issued licenses to all errant drivers/riders (me included) shall get a permanent posting to a submarine or India's observation station on the Antarctic.

The concept may be ok, but the devil is in the detail of implementation. Right to privacy, both of the offender and the photographer, is at risk. Also, as someone pointed out, if the whistle-blower's identity is known, even Snowden cannot help.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari - Law to reward person sending pics of wrongly parked vehicle in offing-911c84a99b3b42fcb1a0ddb2af90e4ee.jpeg

Found this online.

Tomorrow's headlines would read “Techie assaulted by illegally parked van’s driver after attempted photography went wrong”. Really, there’s no dearth of Tughlaq scheme moves by the government.

This just reaffirms the statement someone made, "Government treats common people as ATMs", rather than this part time employment scheme why not install CCTVs with number plate readers? It'll be helpful in monitoring the areas, catching vandals, parking thefts and so on. Plus it'll be non discriminatory, will challan everybody who parks out of the line be it the minister or me.

We have seen how effective are the speed cameras in Delhi. IMO, rather than incentivising people to send images and then verifying those images then issuing challans, installing CCTVs would be a better option.

Bad harebrained idea. The problem of parking stems from not having enough parking spots in most areas. Try going to a mall, hospital, path lab, school, college, court, collectors office, commercial center, and you're likely to be stuck for parking. So you resort to parking just wherever you get a slot, no parking signs be damned. Heck the problem is so acute that many well heeled keep drivers only to sort out the parking issue. And many estabishments have valet parking to ensure that their patrons don't have a problem. Its another thing that those valets end up parking in a no parking zone, although one which doesn't attract fines since the cops have been taken care of.

So its sensible to assume that when the moot issue is lack of adequate public parking, the solution should be to augment the same. Any other scheme is bound to fail since it does not address the root cause. It will only become another avenue for corruption, but hey, we already know thats whats going to happen. Logic and sanity have long been consigned to the bin.

Re: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari - Law to reward person sending pics of wrongly parked vehicle in of

Many years back, when I snapped a picture of the registration number of a rickshaw that refused a ride, the driver came chasing and requested me to take the picture off. He argued that it was hard to find rides back from where we wanted to go. Looking back, it could have been worse.

IMO, law enforcement should strictly be the government's prerogative and responsibility.

Oh God!

This is going to go sideways very quickly!

Clicking pictures will become full time operation for a few.

Thugs have one more reason to attack people.

while I understand the effectiveness of such a process, especially because I live in an area where haphazard parking is a regular problem. I am not sure how far the people complaining will be protected by anonymity. If I happen to complain against a big shot, what is to stop him from having me beaten up.

I think it is just another "musical instrument horn" type statement by the humorous Mr. Gadkari! This has probably got no basis except perhaps despair!

This will never work!
