Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Brio : Yes but in CVT form. Super refined, Nimble, and agile reliable car.
Figo (2nd Gen Diesel) : Yes but in Sport trim. Pocket rocket but better suspensions and electronic feature addition made it such a good package.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Maruthi Alto : No, it needs better fit and finish and features/safety.

Ford Ikon 1.6 Nxt : Big YES, awesome build and steering.

8th gen Civic AT : YES but manual and with more features/kit. Still like that styling, steering and how it revvs.

Tucson : Big YES, but in AWD (for better useful torque). Great design, excellent build quality, powerful engine and smooth gearbox. Very very practical and understated.

530d : Ofcourse YES as used/pre-worshipped. Best sedan so far, with my limited time with it. More to come as we age together!

Brio AT : Big YES. AT (non-CVT) is not economical but as a city car it’s amazing and a perfect beater car for my taste. Maybe will go with the CVT version with audio upgrade (acoustically excellent sounding cabin/small even with a reasonable audio setup)

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Pal Peugeot : No , good engine but continuity was missing
Maruti Alto : No safety also too basic to drive
Maruti Swift : No due to safety issues, Loved 1.3 Ltr diesel engine it was puchy enough
Skoda Laura : No ownership and maintenance was too high, Germans make car very attractive. Resale was too low
Jeep Compass : Yes Loved it each every bit of it. but was getting old to drive manual. hence changed it. But Fiat makes great engines and Jeep makes great package. Only some time niggles makes you annoyed
Jeep Compass TrailHawk : Yes so far loving it, at times gear ratios play odd, but I am good for now. No niggles for now and Jeep service is improving at least in Mumbai

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

My drive is a humble nimble hatchback - Tata Tiago XT -2021 model christened - Toothless.

It's our first car, and first in the family.
Our key criteria was a hatchback, great build quality with safety ratings under 7L OTR, mid-variant specs.
<ownership thread>

On 12th Jan early morning hours (about 3am) reached Jabalpur,MP from Bangalore ~1410 Km in 22 hours (incl.breaks, slowdown due to rains) with 4adults & 1 doggo as passengers and boot fully loaded. The car has clocked ~14K Km, as of date. The car performed effortlessly on this trip.

Coming to the title of the post now, Tiago is the perfect city beater and highway mile muncher!

Though the gearbox is not the smoothest, I would definitely buy it again and recommend it for someone who's looking for a hatchback and their first car.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Fiat Punto: No! Got pulled in by the great reviews and “pulls at the heart” commentary. The 1.3 multijet was underpowered for this heavy car, it was NOISY and the gearbox was clunky. Also the short first 2 gears meant it was a pain to drive in Bombay stop go traffic. The low ground clearance of the original meant the car bottomed out quite a lot (the engine guard had to be hammered into place in every service). The service experience at Fiat (especially the Delhi centres) was bad.

Remapped it at Wolf Moto, post which it became a black smoke emitting monster. I hold cars for long, so kept using it for 8 years post which got rid of it for a nominal price.

The alternative I let go was the 3rd gen Honda city. The “arrow shot” design was hot, the build quality was fantastic and those cars look fresh even 10 years later. The 4th gen was a subsequent downer on that 3rd gen. It was 2 lakhs more expensive than the Punto which is why I had to skip it. Would have more than made up the 2 lakh at the time of resell if I had, had the budget.

Hyundai Creta 1.6 VTVT 2018: Yes! A wonderful all rounder. Fast and smooth petrol engine. Plenty of space inside for road trips. A comfy suspension and ground clearance which gives you peace of mind be it water logged roads or speed breakers.

Alternative that I was considering at this time was the Compass. Did not want another Fiat service experience, loud diesel or a clunky gearbox with a heavy clutch.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Great thread and so apt!

Maruti 800 1995 model (I think!) - YES. Took it all over the country, not a single breakdown. Included the deserts of Rajasthan, and the snow covered roads of Eastern and Western Sikkim.

Scorpio 2008 AT - Maybe. It was a beast on the road. If possible would have bought the 4x4 AT version, but fell short of cash.

Endevour 3.2 4x4 AT 2017:- Hell yes! One of the best SUVs in the market in my opinion. Pity Ford exited the country, though!

2003 Baleno sedan : Yes. Great engine, value for money, comfortable, spacious, fully loaded and good to be driven around. Ticks all the boxes except low ground clearance. They no more make cars like these.

If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?-e2a4a804cb474e0189eae744132895cf.jpeg

2015 Toyota Fortuner- No, seeing the prices shooting up lately, will not recommend a Fortuner at these steep prices. Otherwise an amazing car, comfortable and reliable. Great for long trips out of town.

2019 Toyota Crysta- Yes, bought the variant with the best value 2.8 G AT. The top end Crysta would get a resounding no.

2011 Toyota Innova V- A definite Yes, my father absolutely loves this car and would buy one new again in a heartbeat.

2018 Maruti Ciaz Alpha Diesel- Yes, comfortable, reliable and has amazing fuel efficiency.

2018 Maruti Ciaz Zeta Petrol AT- No, although its a great city car, very comfortable and reliable. I will not buy it again. It has abysmal fuel economy where I have not seen double digit fuel economy figures in its lifetime. My Fortuner costs less to run per kilometre.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Lovely thread!

Fiat Punto 1.3 MJD (2010-2018): - Yes! Despite all the negative quirks like the underpowered noisy engine, long clutch travel and dodgy service, I miss the driving pleasure the car had to offer, the handling, the ride quality and the sturdiness at high speeds was unmatched at the time. I had mine "Wolfed" as well, it was a hoot to drive after that and I enjoyed every bit of it (even the black smoke on hard acceleration). Fiat pulling out of India was never a good sign for its selling price though, I enjoyed the car well after the ECU remap and held on to it for almost 8 years and 1,00,000 kms. Given a choice now, if Fiat was back in India, I will go for it again and this time would love to get my hands on the Abarth version of the beauty.

Tata Hexa XTA (2018-2022): - Absolutely Yes! It was the best value for money car out there in 2018. Space, comfort, power, ride quality, it had it all. If I wasn't moving abroad, I would’ve kept it for at least 10 years.

Audi A4 Avant(2022): - Oh Yeah! I have had the pre-worshipped 2011 A4 Avant for under a month now. Still in awe of the power, quality, and the feeling of owning a German luxury brand. Given a chance again, I will probably go for a latest version of the A4 Avant - Practicality meets class!

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

2006 MS Swift VXi A big YES ! I absolutely love this car to bits, the G13B engine has got great punch. If I were to buy it again I would push to get the ZXi Variant at all costs due to the features and it being VFM.

This VXi is our first car and due to my lack of knowledge in cars at that time , we picked this up. Nevertheless, this car is has taught me lot of things and I have become a DIY'er due to this car. Have put a few features like SWC, Auto Dimming IRVM, HU with Android Auto and Carplay, Rear wiper and Electromagnetic Tailgate opener which I have done since I'm holding onto this car till it's End of Life.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Maruti Baleno Vxi- already bought two times, would buy again. Coldest aircon I have experienced in my life.

Honda Civic Automatic- Yes, but only 2008 and up.

Maruti A-star automatic- Current beater car, would definitely buy one in good condition with closed eyes.

Toyota Corolla automatic (the 1st gen in India) - probably not because the Altis that followed improved on pretty much everything.

Fiat Punto- Heck Yes!

Not applicable to India but worth a mention here (for my personal satisfaction :P)
Chevrolet Trailblazer/GMC Envoy- Bought a 2005 TB, lasted 4 years and the engine died sometime back. Bought a 2005 Envoy (same car fundamentally) with additional safety features and a better ride quality. Nothing (that I have driven) beats the smoothness of an Inline 6.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

This is a nice thread!

I have a 2013 VW Golf TDI 2.0 Highline and would love to replace it with a similar aged Golf "GTI performance" variant. But this can only happen when I add a reliable family car (possibly an SUV) to the garage.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

XUV 500 2019 (30k done) - Yes, Love the car !!!

Nissan Terrano 2015 (85PS, Diesel) - Absolutely Yes, Drove from Bangalore to Kathmandu and back, not a single issue - drove the Hetauda - Pharping - Kathmandu road (Nepal) which usually is used by 4 wheel drive vehicles. In the highways, mileage was 17kmpl

Swift 1.3L Petrol 2007 - Yes, Amazing car. Drove once in 2 weeks for 3 years in the Krishnagiri Tiruvannamalai stretch, one of the worst roads in India with potholes all over.. the 110 Km stretch is dreaded by every driver but unfortunately it was a shortcut to my native and had to take it.. Never had breakdowns with the Swift and the stability that the car offered at high speeds was outstanding

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

From a 7-9 car garage as a joint family under one roof, (parents, brother's family & mine) in the late 90s, to two nuclear families (living in different states) and just 2 small cars now.

Tata Vista 1.3 Quadrajet (2011 Dec):
My companion for the last decade and some, covering a shade less than 2,00,000 kms, travelling cross-country twice and still going decently well. Have used it like a truck, even off-road and still practically squeak-less. A couple of breakdowns (purely my doing), of which I was stranded only once (lack of help from True Sai Motors, Hosur). Received an update on the interiors last month and a new set of upsized tyres (185/65 R14). A definite Yes.

Maruti Ritz:
My brother's car from Bangalore. Haven't driven it much except inside town. Circumstances see us both shifting residences in opposite directions and given the friendly nature of cops to outstation cars in Bangalore, I have to sadly leave the Vista behind with him and take his Ritz instead. The car has run about 83,000 kms. I might end up picking up another vehicle next year. Either EV or a used SUV. As a vehicle for city roundabout, Yes.

My nephew picked up his first car last week, his all-time favourite, the first-gen Honda City VTEC with clear lamps. Haven't seen it yet.
