Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

1996 & 1999 Maruti 800 - Nope. Too Basic the current time

2001 & 2005 Maruti Omni - Yes, for Utility purpose only. Makes a lot of sense in tier II and II cities or to carry around load

2007 Scorpio - Yes, I am planning to have a close look at the Scorpio-N and may buy it in 1-2 years

2003 Fiat Palio GTX - Firm Yes, I bought a used one in 2010. If a new car would have been available today, would definitely buy it. Still using the car happily.

2008 Toyota Innova - Bought used in 2012. Nope, too expensive in my view

2015 Duster RXL Diesel - Bought used in 2017. Definitely Yes as it was an excellent highway cruiser

2017 Honda BRV Petrol - Bought used couple of Months ago. Too early to judge the car.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

2012 Renault Duster : I have been a very happy Duster user for the past 10 years. What I like most of the vehicle is that it is roomy, can comfortably seat 3 adults at the back and has impeccable highway manners.

With much regret, this year I have to let go of my Duster. I would have happily opted for the same car, if only they had spruced up the interiors and installed a better infotainment system. Unfortunately, no such refresh came and I am opting for a different vehicle, which I know, will not be so roomy and comfortable as the Duster.

Such is life!

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Octavia 1.8 TSi L&K - Easy yes if i wanted to have a semi-luxury sedan but might replace this with new Tucson as father drives this and he is thinking to a switch to a monocoque SUV simply because they're comfortable and suitable for our roads.

Kodiaq Style (diesel) - Yes and no. No because if the above car was a new Octavia then wouldn't buy the current petrol Kodiaq. Options are very few and having used and loved the Santa Fe i would get the new Tucson diesel instead.

SX4 ZXi Petrol Auto - No. While the car is still working well and is spacious for a sedan with good stance and GC, it is mainly for my wife who is in learning phase. Will be eventually replaced with a more smaller suitable city car like Baleno or Sonet etc.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Currently, I own only one car - a 2006 Toyota Corolla 1.8E. It is amazingly reliable and feels like it will outlast me. Cabin space, luggage space and performance are as good as they can get and maintenance is cheap.

Easy "yes" for me.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

I have a Polo 1.6 currently.

I would have absolutely bought the same car again, especially at the mouth watering price I got this at in the used car market.

One car I missed was the Rapid Rider. That was one mouthwatering deal which I passed due to my low running.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Nissan Kicks Diesel: This vehicle wasn’t even in my consideration list when I was looking to buy one. However, this car has surprised me to no bounds with its comfort, fun to drive factor, space, no rattles till now (26.5k kms)and trunk capacity. I have just completed Mumbai-Goa-Mumbai trip and it performed flawlessly for the 1500 kms trip while returning FE of 17.7 kmpl which includes lots of idling, travel in the narrow lanes of Goa and city of Pune too. So, in all, I would definitely buy this car all over again.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Beat Diesel - Yes. 1,00,000km done in our ownership. Fuel-efficient, compact, good looking, adequately peppy, reliable, low maintenance, amazing ergos and feel in the driver's seat, feels well put together, 180mm+ ground clearance (after tyre change).

Tata Nano Automatic - Yes. 20,000km done in our ownership. Compact, quirky, potential for a future classic, spacious for 2+2, phenomenal headroom, basic and noisy but robust-feeling suspension, great 180mm ground clearance, beater car feel, opening boot (gen 2), 25L fuel tank (gen 2), automatic transmission, 5-speed (doesn't feel like it's revving too hard even at 80kmph. Although I keep it under 70, reasonably frugal, low maintenance cost.

Same goes for my rides. Impulse, Gixxer SF FI, Navi. All three have a vastly different but lovable personality.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Hyundai Santro (bought used in 2000 - sold in 2009) - YES. Hassle free ownership and a peppy engine to drive in the city. Spirited performance from the small engine and loads of space on offer.

VW Vento TDi (bought in 2011 - sold in 2020) - Absolute YES!! Best ownership experience and the Diesel engine was a blast to drive! Did not ever disappoint and the torque on offer was unrelenting. The best diesel engine this side of 2.0, by far! If offered with that engine and that build quality, would go for it in a heartbeat.

Hyundai Grand i10 (Bought in 2015 - sold in 2020) - Maybe! Bought this car as a second car at home and had a surprisingly good experience. Very spacious on the inside and a peppy enough engine to keep you at pace in the city conditions. No regrets with this purchase.

VW T-Roc (Bought 2020) - YES! Picked this car purely for its performance. Loved the firm ride and the handling capabilities as well. The fact that it was a CBU made me trust the product even more, I guess. Clocked close to 16k kms so far and no complaints. Very unassuming from the outside but an absolute blast to drive!

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Seltos GT Line DCT, Primary driver - me and exclusively driven by me: Mostly yes, What else is there at ~ INR 20L where you get powerful engine, great DCT, roomy cabin, great looks, good driving manners and tons of features. There are cars that do one thing or the other better but as an overall package, i don't think anything is better at this price point.

Honda City 5th Gen ZX CVT, Primary driver - missus and occasionally driven by me: Yes and no. Perfect car for wife. Looks good, no nonsense, reliable and roomy. Appropriate for her social events and occasions. I really don't like it. I find the CVT to be very boring and engine lacks much grunt. Need to wring it by its horn to get good performance and thats not how i like to drive. I like good mid range and just waft about. For me, not the right car but a perfect urban run about for wife.

Maruti Ciaz ZXI plus, Primary driver - dad and occasionally driven by me and temporary driver: Absolutely Yes. There is no car that delivers better value for money. Period. Exceptionally spacious, top model ~ 12L, looks elegant and for a sedate driver, completely acceptable performance. Infact in my view i rate it ahead of City in terms of comfort and ride quality. Add to it, great mileage and its just the right car for family purpose.

Maruti WagonR LXi, Primary driver - mom and occasionally driven by me and dad: unquestionably yes. There is no other car that can suit our needs from this vehicle better. Mom doesn't care how many scratches she puts or where she parks. just turn it on, switch on the AC and thats about it. market runs, vet visits, congested / no parking available. We have repeatedly thought about replacing this vehicle with Baleno / Ignis but it just doesn't make much sense. It will never go beyond 10km radius of the house but nothing else can do the job it does.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

This is something I think about often..

1999 - Ford Ikon Rally Sport - got totalled in an accident. I liked the car so much, I replaced it with a Ford Ikon ZXI. I would buy it again.

2006 - Tata Safari - heavily used and sold at 150k kilometers because it wasn't getting used enough, regret selling it. Till last year, was still in touch with the guy who bought it from me (a team-bhpian) - he wanted to sell it during covid and for many days, I seriously contemplated buying it back! I would still buy it again.

2016 - E250 W212 - would definitely buy this again without a second thought, but if there was a toss-up between this and a GLE or ML350, would go for the SUV.

2019 Tata HEXA AT. Yes. Nothing even remotely comes close to it on Indian roads today. The ride, refinement, powertrain and sheer road presence pretty much nullify all other options. I'll probably pick up second used one this year.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

This is the exact same dilemma I am in right now. I currently drive a Diesel Creta. Bought by my father in 2016. We are a family of 4. (parents, my wife and myself) It has served us well in all these years and I have no complaints whatsoever.
Now I am looking to get another car for myself and wife, as we will soon need 2 cars in the family. Both Creta and Seltos fulfill our requirements to a T and are well within budget. I would have happily booked one of them if not for the poor safety ratings and structure strength.
Given the fact that I have already been driving the Creta, the new one does not really feel like an upgrade. Test rode the Harrier, liked it, also feels like a proper upgrade, but given the size and heft, it feels cumbersome to drive in the the city. Also, the good feature packed variants are beyond our budget. I am guessing the facelift version would be even more costlier.
Not keen on the Kushaq and its VW sister, as they feel smaller in comparison and dont have that road presence. The reports of many issues dont help either, as I value reliability and peace of mind over anything else. So just playing the waiting game to see what new cars come up by this year end.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

I guess this is a question we Ford owners have been mulling for the last one year!

I am happy with my BS 4 Freestyle and would have bought it again if needed. I really love the product, even though I know I will barely get any resale value out of it.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Hyundai Santro (2nd Gen) : Gem of a car. If it was available on sale today, would have bought it again. No issues for 1 lac kilometers, other than suspension and battery changes .Not even the clutch plate was changed.

Ford Fiesta (D) : Another gem, but trustworthy only till 80,000kms, after which maintenance charges increases. Will not recommend.

Honda City(3rd gen) : Best cars I have driven till now. That engine is fabulous. Would buy it again. Plan of changing car next year so Honda City Hybrid is at top of list.

Maruthi Baleno ( Petrol CVT) : Was not so impressed, but a good Car.

Hyundai Creta (2019, Petrol AT) : A no nonsense car. Has driven 26k kms, and no issues. Comfortable and an excellent AT. I would like to buy again, but not a fan of current design.

MG ZS EV (Father driven): Another gem of EV. No issues reported till now.

Re: If you were to buy a car today, would you have bought the car(s) you currently own?

Chevy Beat Petrol: Absolutely. The driving pleasure was bliss, the steering was very responsive, and I feel that the design would have been relevant, even today. The only grouse was the non existent boot space though.
Duster 85ps: Yes again. Brilliant ride quality, humongous boot space.
Duster AWD: Maybe not. I bought it in 2020 , when the interiors were way behind what the market was offering. Driving experience was not exactly different from my 85ps. Should have gone with my other choice- The Hexa.
