All I hope is that the 1.5 T-GDI comes with rear discs. The video when paused @1:15 clearly shows the front calipers painted in red. The rear brake looks like a drum. However, it is not clear. The i20 N Line came with rear discs and it makes no sense to offer the 1.5 T-GDI verna with drum brakes, especially when it would be more powerful and heavier than the i20 N Line. Or just like the i20, the rear calipers are not painted in red and hence not clearly seen in the video. Whatever may be it, I don't want manufacturers to skimp out on equipment, especially for the top line/ variants. Charging extra isn't going to hurt, especially when it comes to safety and when the 1.5 T-GDI will be clearly purchased only by enthusiasts.

I’m guessing the turbo petrol in the new verna to behave in the same manner with +/- 1kmpl.

To answer your second question - yes, wider tyres means less FE but in this case (205-215) not by much.
That is very impressive for a 1.5 Turbo mill. 15 kmpl with spirited driving is heavenly! I am quiet surprised that my 1.6 NA gives much lower mileage. This is in spite of me properly breaking in the engine. What sorcery is this

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

Whoa! It is good to see that HYUNDAI has given great importance to the VERNA in terms of safety. What is interesting is that they have mentioned that they have added some extra safety material to the chasis. I hope this actually turns out to be true and not just another false claim like the car can bear 2 African elephants on its roof :(.

So here's what the Hyundai Verna will have up its sleeve According to me:
Interiors- WOW!
Features- Check
Performance- Check
Looks- Um! Can't say
Space- Check(hopefully)
Dynamics- Can't comment unless driven
Safety- GNCAP or some other private body will check it..

I hope it satisfy's all the requirements a buyer wants who is looking for a car in the market. If Hyundai gets the recipe right, of course it will rule the segment and might have the potential to sell 4k units per month!

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

I came across an article in Cardheko which gives some light on the new features of the Verna.
Link: https://www.cardekho.com/india-car-n...-top-30548.htm

It says that the Verna comes with All disc brakes
There is also an image of a wheel with a disc. Now this might not be conclusive that whether this is the front wheel or the rear wheel. But as pointed out earlier, in the manufacturing video of the verna, the front discs calipers are painted red and the one in this picture is not painted. Just like I expected, the rear discs seems to be unpainted like in i20 N-Line. I just hope that the information in that website is true. Anyways we are just 4 days away from the actual launch, until then, we need to keep our fingers crossed.

Don’t like this new trend of 2-spoke steering wheels, first it was Škoda, now Hyundai seems to be following the trend…

Meanwhile the dashboard design has taken some inspiration from the latest BMW U11 X1!

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

Interior layout is good (except that instrument cluster ) but just can't seem to like the exterior. The front really didn't need that LED bar all around. The LaFesta, Elantra have much better front with conventional designs.

I don't even like the rear or side profile much here. The rear also seems over done with those Tucson like tail lamp design.
I'm hopeful it'll grown on me though.

Atleast the X1's display is a full fledged, high res screen with completely customisable options and navigation. This one is a calculator type from the Carens.

I hope they can compensate the ugliness by giving a good build quality car. If this is another tin can with those looks, god have mercy.

re: 2023 Hyundai Verna launched at 10.9 lakhs!

Hello Fellow T-Bhpians!
I had gone for a short spin in my bicycle to have a small snack and a cup of tea. I saw a gentleman deboarding a Hyundai Company bus who also came to have a cup of tea. I introduced myself and asked him if he was an engineer working with the assembly line and he answered the affirmative. I immediately cut to the chase

1. The 1.5 T-GDI Verna will be called the Verna N-Line.
2. The Verna's Chassis is based on the Sonata.
3. The Verna rear brakes are both discs and drum (Discs for the N-Line and Drum for the regular Verna)

The more important bits:
4. The Tucson diesel is going to be discontinued by the end of this year and replaced with a petrol mill - (I am not sure if this will be the 1.5 T-GDI at a higher state of tune or the 2.0 T-GDI)
5. Hyundai is going all petrol and EV
6. Hyundai is NOT planning to bring the Genesis to India for the time being
7. The expected waiting period for the Verna would be 3-9 months depending on the variants. There are thousands of car waiting in the yard for want of ECUs. The Semiconductor shortage is causing these delays.

Parting conversation:
He said that the Verna will be a much more premium car with more space in the rear seat and fun to drive.

The car looks like a walrus or rather a whale. But I am happy that Hyundai is injecting some freshness into the dying sedan segment.

Now. I wish Maruti starts to think about the next version of the Ciaz.

+1. People were raving eloquent about the "good" looks when the initial renders came out. They're surely disappointed now!

Interior WOW, exterior meh! I don't understand why Hyundai overdid the design on the exterior. Already SUV's are not looking like suv's nowadays and now this! I don't understand why car companies toady are making cars look like space ships. Expected more from exterior although interior looks awesome.
