A question related to the 2% Road Tax for the additional vehicle in Telangana. Is this applicable for 2nd vehicle registered in Andhra Pradesh/ Telangana only or is the 2% Road tax applicable irrespective of the state in which the additional vehicle is registered?
Do you mean to say about cars purchased before the state division? If you are talking about the cars invoiced before the state divided, then it is applicable at the car life tax will be valid for 15 years and you'll have another 4 years of life left. But after the states seperated, you paid taxes to one of the either states. So you so not get impounded for purchasing the car in the other state. The 2% is exempted if you buy an EV.

As per my understanding, if one owns a car with a valid registration of the state, the next car will incur this extra 2 percent road tax liability.
AP RTO which became Telangana RTO falls under this definition when you are getting a new car in Telangana. The opposite should be applicable for AP. RTO that went to Telangana cannot be used to imply this extra tax for vehicle that is getting registered in New AP.

For other states, it should not be applicable, as this 2 percent concept is not present in many states. I can buy a car in Delhi in my name and again buy another car in Telangana in my name without incurring this additional tax. This is my understanding. Hope nothing has changed recently.

Thanks for your reply.

I did read on another platform that if one already owns a car registered in, say, Karnataka and now is purchasing a new car in Telangana then the purchase in Telangana will be treated as a "FIRST" purchase and will attract road tax as applicable for the first car. In case of purchase done before Andhra Pradesh and Telangana separation is altogether a different situation as the records will be common in both states.

Re: New lifetime road tax slabs being introduced in Telangana

Hi

Any update on this subject?

I just got a vento (2015 car) transferred from Kolkata to Hyderabad. Paid life tax at 12% on invoice price after 10 years of tax paid in WB! New Tax token shows validity till 2027 (12 years from date of purchase).

I feel ripped off now , may be I should have sold the car in WB itself.

Regards

Re: New lifetime road tax slabs being introduced in Telangana

I heard from 2 dealerships that there is going to be about 2% increase in road tax starting from January 2025.

I am not sure if this is true, or dealers are trying to push customers to buy this month.

If this turns out to be true, then Telangana would be the state with highest road taxes. The road infrastructure has not improved a lot in past 2 years and the roads I travel on have crater sized potholes giving an offroad feeling within the city.

Road taxes were already hiked during conversion from TS to TG this year. Am I missing out on something ?

Kindly please do share if there's any official news regarding this.
