VW Taigun now gets idle start / stop, TPMS on all variants

Volkswagen is offering Engine Idle Start / Stop and Tyre Pressure Deflation Warning as standard across all variants of the Taigun.

These features are now available on both Performance Line and Dynamic Line trims, but at an added cost, as the carmaker has also announced a price hike of 2.5% - 4% for the Taigun and Tiguan, effective May 2, 2022.

Volkswagen claims that the Engine Idle Start / Stop feature helps improve fuel efficiency by up to 6% on the 1.0L Dynamic Line. The manual variant is said to offer a fuel efficiency of 19.20 km/l, while the automatic variant offers 17.23 km/l.

Volkswagen has also made some minor cosmetic changes to the Taigun. The Performance Line now comes with Wild Cherry Red inserts only with the Wild Cherry Red exterior colour. All other colour options come with Armur Grey glossy inserts.

So they have the chips available for these features, but not for auto ac and electric fold mirrors? Ridiculous!

Massive price hike. GT plus variant now costs 60k more. On road price in Bengaluru now comes to 23.40 lakhs.

They have also mentioned "improved roof liner" as a feature on the website.

Updated Prices of all variants below. The range now starts at 11.39 lakhs, a stiff increase from the launch price levels. Looks like VW Taigun is moving up its price range and the Kushaq moving down with its price range, given the recently launched Kushaq Active Peace. Relative positioning of Taigun versus Kushaq is becoming clearer at least at the lower end of the spectrum.

Wow, an expensive car just became even more expensive.

If you know your car is going to sell 2500 - 3000 units only (not 10000 like the Creta), there is a shortage of cars in the market and you feel your customers aren't that price sensitive (where most will go ahead with the car even at 50k more), you increase the price. Skoda did the same thing recently with the Kushaq.

To be honest I would be one of those customers. I would spend more time haggling with the dealer so that the hike isn't that much for more, though!

Everyone is making hay while the sun shines. Once things get back to normal, there will be competition which will make them change their stand.

I wonder if they'd replace the roof liner on existing customers cars (such as mine) for free.

This may not happen at all, unless its Mitsubishi or a Ford (I remember, the prices for Lancer and Escort were reduced considerably long after their initial release).

Like the Kushaq, they will introduce more variants at lower end, stripped of many features. This will widen the price band and probably will attract more customers to the brand.

Not to forget Cruise Control. It's a pity they still have those dummy buttons on some of the variants.

Not sure about the start stop function, but indirect TPMS does not require a new chip. The software will sit in the ESP ECU and the reset button will be in the infotainment.

For start stop as well, assuming the starter motor already supports this functionality, then it's just software in an existing ECU. They probably only need a button to enable / disable the system.
