Maruti Ignis & S-Presso to get engine upgrades. EDIT: S-Presso launched at Rs. 4.25 lakh

Maruti Suzuki has quite a few launches lined up this year. The Ertiga and XL6 are due for an update, followed by the new Brezza. Now, reports suggest that the Ignis and S-Presso could also get some updates under the hood.

It is said that the Ignis could be offered with a more powerful 1.2-litre DualJet K12N petrol engine. The new 89 BHP motor is expected to replace the old 82 BHP K12M engine.

The report states that the S-Presso is likely to get a DualJet upgrade as well. The 1.0-litre K10B petrol engine could be replaced with the K10C unit. This 66 BHP 1.0-litre DualJet unit is currently offered in the Celerio and is claimed to be one of the most fuel-efficient engines in the country.

Maruti Suzuki is also gearing up to introduce factory-fitted CNG kits on its Nexa models, including the new Baleno.

With some chassis reinforcement and extra horsepower the Ignis would make for a fun city car. Like the Brio was back then.

re: Maruti Ignis & S-Presso to get engine upgrades. EDIT: S-Presso launched at Rs. 4.25 lakh

Has anybody got any further info about this update?

Was contemplating on buying an Ignis AMT to replace our ageing WagonR. But this news got me waiting and it's been months with no further news at all about the update. New AMT box with hill hold assist is what I am waiting for, while the new more fuel efficient engine would be an added bonus. But wonder if MSIL has dropped the plan? The waiting period for Ignis AMT around here is about 14 weeks though.

I am also waiting for any updates in this regard. Planning to book the AMT version for my mother.

re: Maruti Ignis & S-Presso to get engine upgrades. EDIT: S-Presso launched at Rs. 4.25 lakh

Should Maruti discontinue S-Presso?

Maruti launched S-Presso in late 2019 to take a ride on the SUV/Crossover wave that caught the fancy of the Indian customer. Their designers tried hard to give it a silhouette of an SUV, engineers somehow made that electro-mechanical contraption, and their marketing team named it akin to a popular coffee-brewing method of Italian origin to attract youth.

There are precisely two big reasons why it deserves to be discontinued.

Reason 1: It is a sales disaster by Maruti’s standard

Well, it was supposed to sell more than Alto or replace Alto in the long term, given the SUV silhouette. But sales never picked up. It turns out to be a worse performer in Maruti’s hatchback stable. Given such low volume, it must be generating losses for Maruti.

Reason 2: It is most unsafe GNCAP tested car in Maruti’s stable so far even with ‘one’ airbag

Wagon-R with only a driver-side airbag scored 6.9 points (out of 17), in the 2019 GNCAP crash test assessment, however, S-Presso scored 0 points even with a driver-side airbag in the 2020 GNCAP crash test assessment. In most likelihood, Maruti Alto, the cheapest car in India, can even that GNCAP score, and thus also qualifies to be discontinued.

Everything aside, I cannot believe that S-Presso is selling almost 2.5X of Ignis!!

It is the new darling of the taxi drivers here in Mumbai at least. I see so many white CNG yellow plate S-Presso cars on road now a days.

Just spoke to a Maruti dealer and was informed that there have been no dispatches of the S-Presso this month and not expecting it either for the remained of the month. He mentioned that it is possibly because of the updated vehicle coming in another month or so.

So, WagonR gets only hill hold assist, while a Spresso from a lower segment gets hill hold + ESP! Very puzzling feature distribution.

Good job Maruti! ESP and Hill Hold as standard (albeit only on AGS) on an A-segment hatchback is a brilliant move. Don't remember any other hatchback offering the same! (Even the "safety conscious" Tata's Tiago doesn't offer it!)

Haha! Look up the mid variant features on Baleno and Brezza and you'll be even more confused! Maruti's feature distribution has always been very confusing.

Re: Maruti Ignis & S-Presso to get engine upgrades. EDIT: S-Presso launched at Rs. 4.25 lakh

Woah! The top-end automatic is 6 lakhs ex-showroom. It will cost nearly 7.5 lakhs on-road. 70,000 INR increase from the old model. Hill-hold and ESP are welcome additions, especially ESP since this is a tall and narrow car but the dual-jet engine and start-stop system are just not needed in my opinion. The price creep is definitely unnerving. If 6 airbags are also forced onto small cars - this segment is just going to wilt and vanish.

It's a pity Maruti hasn't taken the opportunity to improve the looks though. Just adding a bit of cladding would have been great.

Lots of S Presso taxi’s in Bangalore too and these are mostly affiliated to the new ride hailing app MY N which goes so far as to proclaim and advertise ‘No Surge’ and ‘Guaranteed Rides’ etc.
I am sure these must also be CNG but honestly I haven't observed that piece.
