Out of the question. The torque-converter is the most widely used AT technology worldwide and is able to meet the emission norms of countries that are even stricter.

From my experience of Suzuki petrol engines, I found them sweet and refined. I like Suzuki petrol engines. But somehow they are lagging big time in power and performance compared to the competitors. I would have expected better numbers from a brand new 1.5L hybrid petrol engine in this day and era.

Earlier Team BHP report indicates " Toyota has started building the 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre hybrid engines in limited quantities."

Given the speculation it will be the Hybrid System from Toyota, the 1.5L engine will likely be from Toyota [ Yaris/ Corolla Cross (2.0L Dynamic Force engine)]

The author seems pretty happy about the hybrid + ags setup in normal drive mode. And the car has "unspecified" range in pure electric mode.

Is there some technological limitation for why TC will not be able to meet the stricter norms? Or is it that with TC is much harder to meet the norms compared to AMT/DCT?

I hope and pray this engine makes it to India and MSIL ends up using it for the long awaited 5-door Jimny as well but strictly - NO AMT

Given how long Suzuki is taking for the 5-door Jimny, it makes sense to think of the future and come with a hybrid for Jimny (for India) instead of dumping the same 3-door engine on the 5-door. I say this with an assumption that Europe is going to get a Jimny Hybrid for sure but India will miss out.

There is a divided opinion that people who are going to buy a vehicle like Jimny do not care/bother/worry about the rising fuel costs but having said that, Jimny is not a Thar per se. There are going to be many buyers (including me) who are going to buy Jimny as a daily driver and for that segment, fuel costs matter. MSIL has said that a product like Jimny is good for the brand as it fulfils customer aspirations. Treating Indian market the same will go a long way in keeping that promise.

It seems that this Hybrid system will solve the head-nod effect from the AMT gearbox. I wonder about the maintenance costs of these hybrid systems as there is a battery and other electrical components like motors are involved.

Torque converter AT usually have more transmission loss, hence are not the ideal choice when you want to maximize efficiency, there are few contradictory info about the same though.

Below article says why VW decided to ditch DCT in favour of traditional AT's since Australia still follows older emission norms.

Australia still subscribes to more lenient Euro 5 emissions regulations. Europe moves to stricter 6d rules on January 1, 2021, and recently brought in the tougher WLTP emissions test.

Because the newer engines and dual-clutch transmission are more efficient, production is being prioritised for markets where they’re required to meet those strict emissions rules.

Australia isn’t on that list, and will therefore receive the existing Golf’s turbocharged 1.4-litre engine – which is now only manufactured with an eight-speed torque converter automatic.

The declared figures are 22.5km/L, probably the earlier report should read as mpg.

Suzuki says the new Vitara Full Hybrid can supposedly do around 22.5km/L in mixed conditions, which is what we think could be a strong selling point for the model if it were to arrive in our market(Ph.)
