Maruti Suzuki has achieved a new sales milestone, as cumulative sales of its S-CNG vehicles cross the 10 lakh unit mark.

Maruti Suzuki's product portfolio includes 9 S-CNG models including the Alto, S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Dzire, Ertiga, Eeco, Super Carry and the Tour-S.

S-CNG models have been on sale since 2010. In the first year, the carmaker had sold 15,900 vehicles. In 2016-17, Maruti sold 3.5 lakh CNG vehicles, followed by 5.3 lakh units and 7.98 lakh units in 2018-19 and 2020-21, respectively.

Maruti Suzuki's S-CNG range uses dual interdependent ECUs and a common rail based CNG injection system. These vehicles also come with re-tuned suspension and brakes.

The S-CNG range comes with a few safety features including a microswitch that ensures that the vehicle is off and doesn't start while refuelling, stainless steel CNG pipes with ferrule joints, dual solenoid system, non-return valve mechanism, CNG filler filter, petrol mode ignition and integrated electrical system.

Re: Maruti Suzuki CNG vehicle sales cross the 10 lakh mark

Maruti has made a smart decision by pushing the R&D at the right time for the CNG vehicles.
Discontinuing the diesel has left a void among their range and the CNG push has helped them to plug that to an extent.

Though the new Kia Carens & XUV 700 diesel booking numbers still put a big question mark over the above call.

The Swift and Ignis brothers will be contributing a major chunk to the sales numbers as and when they are released. They did some smart packaging with the Wagon R boot space which allows users to get more usable space and almost a 300km range in a hatchback shape.

The combination of space and range along with that of higher variants (possibly an AT) will help them maintain the market share in the next couple of years.

I think the Ignis CNG can be Nexon EV moment Maruti has been waiting for.

Well Ignis with its 280 ltr boot is packaged more towards rear legroom comfort. Boot space will be almost NIL with a good range CNG cylinder. Also, i do not see them selling CNG variants from the so called premium Nexa dealerships.
