Re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

When are Maruti and Toyota expected to announce the prices for the different variants? I do not understand this strategy of claiming to have launched a car without publishing the price list.

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder's prices are to be revealed on 16th August. Grand Vitara prices are likely in September.

Re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Which will be the better pick between the Grand Vitara and Hyryder, if they are priced similarly? Considering that both are essentially the same car, will there be any deciding factor for choosing one above the other?

I guess if you are going for Mild Hybrid, the Grand Vitara would be cheaper variant to variant against the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. However, if you are going for the Strong Hybrid, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder has 3 variants whereas only the top two variants are available for the Strong Hybrid with the Grand Vitara.

So, the entry point for the Strong Hybrid should be lower for the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, but when comparing the top two variants, a variant-to-variant comparison would most likely indicate that the Grand Vitara would turn out to be cheaper.

Design, looks, service network are some other factors you need to consider.
Although looks are subjective, however as regards service network. Maruti has the wider service network over Toyota.

Kindly do a variant-to-variant comparison based on the prices, once they are announced and take your decision.

Probably I would prefer Toyota for strong hybrid and Maruti for the weak hybrid, with the anticipation that Toyota may be better equipped to handle ASS for strong hybrid, as the strong hybrid gets a Toyota powertrain, and this powertrain is complicated and new to India.

As we all agree that looks are subjective, I prefer the looks of Hyryder compared to Grand Vitara. Yet to experience Hyryder in flesh. Hyryder has a refreshing face and Grand Vitara got some design clues inspired from XL6 and International SCross. Rear of Grand Vitara scores over that of Hyryder. I am worrying about the top end Hybrid Hyryder which might be placed out of the market .

Though they are essentially same cars. Found this video where creator has nit picked very minute differences.

Though I like Hyryder in design and black interior in this particular variant. In case of AWD, will it be wiser to go with Maruti as this technology is something that is coming from Maruti's side?

Re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Hope Maruti and Toyota do not have the 'introductory price for first x number of bookings' gimmick. Launch the car at the price they expect to stick to for at least the first 12 months. I do expect the GV to garner far greater number of bookings as compared to the Toyota sibling. I won't be surprised to see the wait times stretching to 8+ months for some variants.

Toyota opens TNGA assembly line at Bidadi plant

Toyota has opened a new assembly line at its Bidadi plant. The new line is configured for the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol-hybrid powertrain.

The 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain will be offered on the upcoming Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Both SUVs will be manufactured at Toyota’s Bidadi factory.

The 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine produces 91 BHP and 122 Nm. It is paired with an electric motor that has an output of 78 BHP and 141 Nm. This powertrain comes with a 177.6 V lithium-ion battery pack which offers an all-electric range of up to 25 km.

Both mid-size SUVs will also be offered with a 1.5-litre mild hybrid. This is the familiar K-Series motor from the Maruti Suzuki range. It makes 103 BHP and 137 Nm.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is expected to be launched later this month, followed by the price announcement for the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.

Are they the same or are there any material differences under the hood - like engines, powertrains etc.

I was thinking the same that they're both the same except for the look and feel and maybe a few latches and knobs. But these article indicates something different - the engines are coming from their respective stables. Apart from pricing and service networks, this is a big factor, atleast for me.

The wording of the articles are a little ambiguous.
The neo hybrid or smart hybrid is a Maruti Engine (same one as Brezza) and will be available on the "weak hybrid" (for the lack of better word) cars. The strong hybrid is a Toyota engine and available on the strong Hybrid cars i.e the Zeta+ and Alpha + of Maruti and the equivalent models of Toyota

Service Cost can be another factor that may sway your decision.
Toyota branded parts for Glanza and Urban Cruiser have been found to cost much more than their Maruti Branded siblings. There was a post on it on the forum.

I have used the same phrase multiple times in conversations, and then remembering it is called 'mild hybrid'
It's very interesting how our mind always goes to 'weak' when we try to differentiate something from 'strong'

Small correction. The engine plant is in Jigani and not in Bidadi. Bidadi plant makes cars, while Jigani plant makes engines.

Is the strong hybrid 3 cylinder engine also going to be made at Jigani by Toyota ?
